My friends and I were in Augusta for the Masters and came to Taco Cat for dinner the night before. We had a great experience! The ambiance was really nice with the open garage doors and the live music was great. I forgot the singer's name unfortunately but she was fantastic, played some covers and a couple original songs. The food and drinks were also great - there was four of us, we split 2 orders of the tostadas and the taco sampler platter and then got one of each flavor of ice cream sandwich for dessert. We each got two drinks as well. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who is visiting! read more

I have been here MANY times but this visit was the worst. Got seated, not crowded at all. Took a while before anyone came to the table at all. Many servers and bar tenders standing around. No sense of team service, just oblivious. I had to ask someone if our server was coming. When our server FINALLY came over we told them we were ready to order everything and we were in a bit of a time crunch. Took the order, brought water all seemed good. Other tables seated after us served drinks, got food and we still just had WATER. I could go on but was just downhill. Manager came over and tried to explain but she just wanted to give the excuses and not hear the customer. I'll never go back, or to any of this restaurant group's establishments. Really poor. We drove to Augusta as the meeting point for some friends we rarely get to see and I researched gathering here. It is located on a side street of the main drag through downtown. (I couldn't help but think what downtown once was in its heyday- it is currently struggling but putting up a mighty fight). We started with chips and salsa and added queso. The queso was average, the salsa- both a red and green- rocked. The chips were lovely, too. We ordered a sundry of tacos and a couple of drinks from the bar. We sample all the tacos offered, the fave was the shrimp taco and the least impressive was the pork one. I would recommend the spot as a hip hang out. My ding would be that our server was non existent and apathetic the two or three times we did see her. read more

I hate to leave bad reviews especially for places where I've left a good one in the past! My friend and I came in for drinks and queso in the middle of the day (not busy at all). Our queso comes out very quick but is super cold. We wait probably over 15-20 minutes for drinks (one of which was just a coke) when the place had a total of maybe 5 people dining in. We were also sitting next to the bar and my drink sat there already made for at least 10 minutes. When we finally got our drinks, my friend's coke was watered down and my marg was SO strong that I could barely drink it (extremely unbalanced). In town for a work conference and stumbled upon TacoCat. It's a beautiful open spaced restaurant and on Friday night they had live entertainment. I'm not sure how often that happens. The staff's as friendly and swift. I didn't have to wait long to be serviced or checked out. I had the chips and guac and quesabirria. Both were good, the consume really helped the quesabirria. The only saving grace for tonight's review was the food, drinks, and atmosphere. Sadly the service lacked big time and was very off putting. I hate leaving a bad review on service but when it's a table of two and one person gets their meal but the other waits over 30* minutes after asking the server to check on it multiple times. It's difficult. The server many times avoided us and never came back to check on us. When we finally informed how long we had been waiting on the one meal they said it had been given to another table. We rarely ever had the server check back in on a not so busy evening. The food and drinks saved the night. Luckily once we finally got both meals they were delicious and filling. The drinks are always good. Went here on a whim on a Friday for a no notice type of going away for a coworker. Started out a handful of us and ended up about 20. The place didn't skip a beat, we were welcomed with open arms as they opened. Food: Excellent we all had different types of things from wings, to tacos, to my Burrito Cat. All of our meals were great. Mine was nice and tasteful, well seasoned and arrived quickly for the rush we put on them. Service: Excellent, we were greeted as we arrived by a host at a reception type desk, she and our waitress were equally friendly and polite. Our waitresses customer service and recommendations were on point and she was so attentive filling drinks as they emptied and kept asking if we were good. Ambiance: Welcoming environment, with a laid back feel. Modern hipster diner vibes, full bar, booth seating and outdoor dining. Good for a work lunch, date night or family meal. The carne asada fries slapped so hard I saw a vision of my ancestors. The spicy steak tostada nearly ended me--delicious pain, would suffer again. Spicy margaritas? One sip and we all thought we were backup dancers in a Shakira video. Our waitress Bri deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping our chaotic table alive and hydrated. Walking in it was a very artistic and industrial vibe. Using storage containers and cinderblocks as decoration brought a really cool feel to the place. I shared the taco platter with my partner. For $35 dollars you got 8 different tacos and it was the perfect amount of food and a made for a fun way to enjoy dinner. There was definitely thought out into all of the flavors of each taco which was appreciated. My favorite was the blackened fish, birria, and sweet potatoes tacos. I really enjoy how open their restaurant is, especially how the indoor seating seems to transition seamlessly into outdoor seating. The sitting area where they have couches and chairs are quite comfy. I have not experienced the live music but have been downtown and walked past while they had it going on and it seemed like everyone was enjoying it. Had an incredible lunch at TacoCat! Our servers were prompt and friendly and the music was on point! This restaurant is inside a renovated garage with indoor and outdoor seating! Very festive and hip in its decor with niches for more intimate seating with comfy sofas and coffee tables too. Our food was super FRESH and homemade. We ordered the following and shared all: Chipotle Chicken Chimichangas-HUGE and stuffed to the brim with flavorful chunks of chicken, rice, beans, other magical spices smothered in cheese! Fried to perfection. Will order again! Shrimp and blackened fish tacos-one is very filling for a small person and is garnished beautifully. See photos. Tasty and loaded with flavor. Restaurant just opened for the day when I arrived. I enjoyed the open air feel of the space. The day was lovely. I ordered chips, queso and chicken quesadilla. The food was appetizing. Chips were light and thin. Quesadilla had a flaky crust. Queso was thick and cheesy (not watered down)! Server A. (Guessing that's the first letter of her name) was pleasant and attentive. I was initially charged $13 for the quesadilla. I questioned the charge because the menu lists $11. I was told that's an old menu. The server gave me that menu when I was seated. It's also the same menu that I viewed online when I researched the restaurant. Manager (initials M. M.) told me that $11is for a cheese quesadilla. An additional dollar is added for a protein. I was not convinced with his explanation. The menu lists quesadilla $11 (cheese is not listed on the menu) and a +1 beside the carne asada, which I understood from server A's explanation to be an extra charge only for the carne asada because I specifically asked about that +1 when ordering. Manager M. M. said the +1 is for all the proteins. I said the placement of the +1 is deceptive, especially when you look at the price for some other items on the menu. Manager M. M. said new menus were being printed. I suggested the +1 be placed in front of all the proteins to reduce the perception of deceptive pricing. (I suppose "cheese" should also be placed in front of quesadilla if management is going to charge extra for protein. I did not mention that to M. M.) Manager M. M. discounted $1 from my meal and gave me a card for a free quesadilla on my next visit. read more

Tried Tacocat for the first time this evening and I won't be back. $200 for 4 people to eat in Mexican food that was just ok. The margaritas were served in plastics cups with carnival straws , seriously, no thank you. The margaritas were not balanced; either too tart or too sweet. The food LACKED FLAVOR. The chips and salsa are $5 and pretty good. The fish taco had one small piece of fish and it tasted fishy - the coleslaw in the fish taco was just red cabbage - it wasn't coleslaw. The tuna tostado was impossible to eat. The tostado tasted greasy and was not crispy. The tuna had no flavor and was tough. Not impressed and the musician was so loud you couldn't talk to the person next to you. Way too expensive and mediocre. read more

I was so excited when I heard about this restaurant coming to downtown Augusta, but reality bust that excitement. I didn't have a great experience. The food is not worth going there for second try. In my opinion the drinks and the food are over priced. The service was terrible. The server seemed preoccupied with other issues and not tending to his tables. My friend didn't get her drink until after she ate all of her food. He brought our checks and never came back to pick up our payment. My friend had to ask someone else to do it. Say you love a place without saying you love a place. I've been here twice in 7 days. Of course I am a sucker for new places (especially downtown) and who doesn't love tacos and what is surely the most extensive tequila bar for at least 100 miles? Of course a high bar (see what I did there?) was already in place as TacoCat is yet another creation of Frog Hollow Hospitality (Frog Hollow Tavern, Craft & Vine, Farmhaus, Pho-Ramen'L), but I also had a growing anticipation due to the location and decor. If you're not sure where they're at just look for the mural with a large "990" and a cat wearing a sombrero. Also, it is just off Broad Street (on 10th Street), next door to Tire City Potters and across from The Bee's Knees. You'll immediately see the garage doors (which I hope they'll start opening soon) and the color scheme that just pops. Inside you'll find a theme I can only describe as a 80's musical set in a garage and held together with margaritas and mezcal. Of course tacos were my first order. The TacoCat Salad, on my second visit. And due to the heat, frozen TacoCat's to wash it all down. I will recommend that my regret was not ordering all 7 of the tacos (I was a lightweight with 3), so don't make my mistake. Both the tacos and salad were masterpieces in texture, flavor and presentation. And the team service? Top notch! Friendly, insightful, and always making sure everything is of excellence. So if you haven't figured it out by now, I am recommending you make a trip as soon as possible. They are open for lunch and dinner, Wednesday-Saturday. Now go! read more

What a great new local addition!! I first came to Tacocat when it initially opened, and I can say they have definitely made improvements since then! The vibes are always immaculate with the open-air seating, good music, and awesome decor. The birria tacos and torta are AMAZING. We also got some carne asada nachos which gave us several meals and were loadeddd with good stuff. The Paloma Rad was a great fall drink that wasn't too sweet and great in the afternoon. The only thing tacocat could do better is offer pitchers of drinks (I think right now they only offer this for mimosas) and free chips and salsa. It's a tad on the pricey side for Mexican but worth it for the amount of food and location off Broad. Will be back again! read more

First impression: Very upbeat, good hang spot Definitely the hangout spot. It has a food-meets-bar-meets-lounge vibe. Very lively! Lots life in the place if you need an atmospheric pick-me-up. This is a great spot to start your girls night or catch up with a bunch of friends after a long week of "adulting". The staff were all generally kind. There was a lot of diversity, which I appreciated seeing. Lots of eye contact and smiles in the middle of being very busy. Nourishment: Good chips and queso I can't comment very much on the food because we got there a little too close to last call for food but the queso dip and chips were good. They add a touch of cilantro which set it off. I ordered a peach margarita which usually comes with a sugar rim. I opted out of that. It was ok, but if you don't like a strong drink, I wouldn't go for it. Could have been a little more blended and balanced. The place has a touch of "throwback" in it and some really creative décor. The cinder block wall creates an eye tunnel to the movie wall, which was showing a film with subtitles. The couches were on a nice little platform behind us. Lots of high top and regular tables as well as a bar. Plants give it a touch more life. Your check is delivered inside of a cassette case which is pretty neat!! The bathrooms are non-exclusive of gender and permit wheelchair access. The ONLY (minor) downfall is the fans were on full blast so I was actually cold but it is the beginning of August that's not a true complaint. Bring a sweater or wear long sleeves. read more
