Well, it's not taco bell.. but it's not considerably better either. The nachos reminded me of the kind you get at the movie theater with the neon orange "cheese" and the burrito had canned refried beans and too much shredded lettuce. Also.. did every parking spot need a sign to alert drivers that there was a pole behind them? You've got at least 15 feet to back up before hitting the pole. Went here tonight with my family. My husband works near by and wanted me to try it. He said it reminded him of this place in Seattle called "taco time" that I love. I ordered the super burrito and it was good. The ground beef was super flavorful and the restaurant was very clean. I will come back next time I am in auburn and craving a quick bite. read more

If you're a big fan of Taco Bell, this place should be right up your alley. The line of cars for this place was down the street, so I (not knowing any food places is Auburn) thought they might be on to something. But no such luck, this place is possibly even less authentic than its more generic fast food brothers. The food wasn't bad, just extremely bland and boring; the sort of "Mexican" food that, well, just isn't. Accomplishes the ride and the lunch. I had the Super Burrito and a diet Pepsi. This AIN'T TB! That's good! It wasn't very big, wasn't small either. The ingredients were mostly lettuce/tomatoes/refried beans, along with some ground beef. And the flour tortilla it was wrapped in, very fresh. And I think that's the word here. "Fresh". It was tasty too. So if you need a "fast" Mexican food fix, but don't want that chain taste....head over to Taco Tree. Unlike what the guide above says, this location did NOT accept credit cards. This place is what Taco Bell want to be when it grows up. Or maybe this place is what Taco Bell used to be before it got old and cynical... either way, it's good. I usually get the super nachos or a bean burrito (no onions, plus sour cream). The veggies are fresh. The tortillas as soft and tasty. I was excited to get my food until I got my food it was a mess and the lady taking our order was very rude! Approaching the window I had hope still! The woman at the window was rude and incompetent. I simply asked for a bag and she rolled her eyes and shut the window in my face. I asked for the manager who was either clueless or also incompetent. It's like Taco Bell, but better. Don't come anywhere near this place a lunch when school is in - you've been warned. It's straight up from the 70's, with the swivel orange benches and plastic tables. However, the prices are OUTRAGEOUSLY cheap. $3 for a good size burrito - yes please. This is the only taco place where I will allow ground beef because it works on the nachos, the only thing I will eat there. This is largely because it doesn't claim to be authentic or try to be. It's just cheap food that tastes pretty good and kicks back later. There's something about this place that makes me keep thinking about it fondly. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe it makes me think back to my old days in Auburn, and the long commutes to Sacto. Maybe it's because I had limited food choices back then and the only other place I ate at regularly then was McDonalds (where I will never eat again- and that goes for their Mexican McChain franchise, Chipolte.) I came here expecting to have good authentic tacos however what I got was worse than that. The tacos were similar to that of Taco Bell but worse. I ordered supreme nachos as well and the beans were straight from a can. The beef was not good at all and to top it off there was a piece of hair awaiting me at the bottom of my nachos. giving them 2 stars because the food is cheap, mediocre and i've been going for years. however, the service here has ALWAYS been bad. the girls at the window are incredibly rude. my boyfriend left his card at home so i googled if taco tree takes apple pay, it said they did. when we got to the window we asked the girl to make sure. she responded with "umm no we do not!!" i said "i'm sorry it said so online" and she said "well the internet isn't always right! bye" and shut the window in our faces. we absolutely did not mean to inconvenience them. i don't understand the hype about a spot where the employees are this rude. i've been working in customer service for years and would not talk to anyone like that. read more

Where to begin... This was quite possibly the worst fast food place I have ever been to. The first thing I noticed about this place is that no one wears a hair net. Big mistake when you work in the food industry. Several people working with or around the food had long hair that was just casually draped over their shoulders as they were handling the food. The food itself was AWFUL. Crafted by a four year old kind of awful. It felt like they mixed all the ingredients up in a bowl and scooped it out on to the burritos. My burrito was supposed to be vegetarian. I guess to Taco Tree vegetarian means less than a 1/4 cup of cheese, a smidgen of refried beans, one black olive, the butt of two tomatoes, and a whole bunch of gross lettuce. I went here during a road trip, no smiles from the staff and no vegan options on the menu, also no rice on the menu. The food was cheep and if you like meat and cheese this is a great place. The people I was traveling with loved the meat and cheese, not my thing I like veggies and rice and beans. Good thing is the prices are low and you get lots of food. read more

Okay so I have come here multiple times, and the food is always good. However this review is for the staff. After waiting for 25-30 minutes in the drive thru when there was a total of 4 cars, I was annoyed. When I reached the window I got my food, and the girl didn't ask if I wanted any sauce. The sauce is probably my favorite part of the nachos that I get. So I had to literally knock on the window to ask for some. She gave me two packets and said "we are running low so that's it" . I was in total shock. After waiting 30 minutes I get two packets of sauce for my nachos and taco. I usually would never do this, but after coming home from a trip, I was super excited to eat taco tree. So I parked my car and walked in and complained. They basically threw the sauce at me and said usually you get 2 packets of sauce per item. Are you kidding me?? For a taco place they should not have a limit on sauce. It just doesn't make sense. I'm hoping a manager or something sees this because that is absolutely unacceptable. I know that this is kind of stupid about complaining about sauce, but the way I was treated for making a simple request was not okay. The staff has ALWAYS been rude, but this pushed me over the edge. I've loved you for a long time Taco Tree but you blew it this last week. I went and got one of your super burritos with sourcream. The sourcream was BAD! I mean rotten, spoiled, not good. My husband called to let you know it was bad. He said the girl on the phone was rude and said the date on the sourcream was still current but she said that so quick he was positive she didn't even bother to look. That is uncalled for. I have been going to Taco Tree, near Placer HS, since I went to high school there in the 80's. NO MORE. I am a vegitarian and ordered a bean tostada, like I always do... got home and there is meat on it. Ok.... inconvenience, but people make mistakes, right? No big deal. I politely called them and told them about their innocent mistake and informed them that I'd be back in about 5 mins and to please have my correct order ready for me when I arrived. They ARGUED with me, telling me *I* must have ordered it wrong (because, they can't make a mistake??). They raised their voice to me... basically calling me a liar... Over an item that cost $1.50!! I arrived there to retrieve my order... the dining area is full... the older alcoholic looking lady (one of them) continued to argue with me, Loudly.... and then slopped my tostada together and literally threw it on the counter and walked away... While the "manager" looked on and didn't say a word, but actually darted dirty looks at me..... Unbelievable! I actually don't want to support this estabishment at all, considering the owners don't seem to care how their loyal customers are treated. But, IF I have the craving for TT, then I will go the extra miles to the Dry Creek location. Great service, nice staff, they will actually give you napkins and hot sauce without huffing and puffing. They need to realize that the only people who really like Taco Tree are the locals, THAT'S who they need to keep happy, They're not too smart. read more

While this isn't authentic Mexican food, let's not get carried away and compare this place to Taco Bell. Taco Tree is far superior to Taco Bell. I had a beautiful dream last night. In this dream I buried a taco in the ground. A glorious tree rumbled forth from the earth, each branch heavy with so many tacos. Taco Tree restaurant is the closest to this dream I have, but this substitute is far from poor. I live in the bay area, but frequently find my self in the foothills to visit friends and family. Or that is, I tell myself that I'm visiting friends and family, but lately I've started to suspect that my real agenda is to eat at delicious Taco Tree. This is the best fast mexican food ever.
