So my Nebraskan husband has been hyping this place up, as he and his family have been coming here throughout his childhood whenever visiting Western Nebraska. I didn't have high expectations but was ready to try it. Being from a bigger city, going to a place called 'Taco Town' just sounded way too kitschy for me. Not exactly a Chevys, there was definitely a 'hole in the wall' kind of feel as you entered and looked around. There was ample seating, booths and tall bar stool type of seating. You order your food at the front and wait for your number to be called. I let my husband order for me, seeing as he would know best. I ended up with a Combo Plate: beef taco, beef flauta, cheese quesadilla, beans, and pork chili sauce over rice. The taco was quite good: their shells are deep fried to a light, airy, fluffy, and crispy goodness. The meat was just mildly seasoned, so you do need to rely on additional hot sauce or the chili sauce to make it great. The beef flauta was good too, but fairly simple: it seemed like just a crunchy taco shell. The cheese quesadilla was delicious, definitely a cheesy guilty pleasure. Beans were good, rice I could have lived without (seemed overcooked and mushy). That pork chili sauce though, I probably could have enjoyed that by itself! Good pork and a light (more watery of a consistency) sauce base. I can see how this became a family mainstay, and I could definitely enjoy it again as a guilty pleasure treat!

Taco Town is a real Scottsbluff culinary experience. In fact, it arguably may be THE Scottsbluff culinary experience. I don't want to build it up too much, but if you're in Scottsbluff and looking for a place to grab lunch, this is probably one of your best bets... I'm not from the region (and as of writing this review, I've only been there once), but my fiancee and her family are from the region, and make it a point to stop by when they're in town. I can understand why. Taco Town is a defining quintessential example of Western Nebraska Mexican food. Again, there are many similar restaurants that are of this cuisine in the area with very similar food (but with slight differences), but Taco Town is certainly one of the best. This is the kind of place that the locals will go. As for food recommendations, I recommend the cheese enchiladas, which are delicious. They are made with flour tortillas that seem to be flash fried somehow for a good texture. Above all else, I'd really recommend the tacos--the tacos are very good, and go very well with the hot sauce that is provided at Taco Town. Being from Texas, the tacos reminded me a little of a puffy taco in San Antonio, with the fried shell. (It's more crispy than a puffy taco, though). If you like Taco Town, Taco De Oro (which is practically across the street) is also very similar. I'd check out both establishments and decide what you like better. As for this yelp reviewer, I'd give Taco Town a slight edge over Taco De Oro.

My husband forces me to eat here everytime we come to NE and I'm glad he does. The cheese enchiladas and fluffy rice are delicious, but my favorite food is the fried taco!

The food is decent...nothing "Great", but a good value. The staff is nice, the restaurant is clean, and portions are good.

Hahahahaha, this place. Tacos are awesome. Get a taco. Best fast food taco ever. Fried, greasy, awesomeness of a taco. Lots of meat.

I would not come here again! Food is not that good not sure why all of the people reviewing this place say it was good. Dry and no taste.

I have come here since I was a little girl with my grandparents (it was actually my first time ever having a cheese enchilada).

I cannot believe how packed this restaurant was for a Thursday evening. We had a party of seven…read morewith a reservation. When the table was ready "your table is ready but it's really tight. Would you be okay with that"? After flying to Colorado and then driving three hours to get to Nebraska, that didn't seem appealing. Well, everyone was hungry so we took it. The table was awful to sit at. I had to sit on the corner of the table and so did someone else in our party. Bean dip and chips were on the table. That bean dip was so good. The salsas were great as well. If you want more chips and bean dip, they do charge you for it. Just a heads up. I ordered the chicken tacos - not great. No flavor at all. The tacos were a nice size. But I really couldn't eat them unless I added a ton of salsa. My husband ordered the fish tacos and didn't eat his said "these are the plainest fish tacos I have ever eaten. I just can't make them taste good no matter what I do" People seem to love this place. The waitress was GREAT! She was so on top of us, had a great disposition and smile. She was the only blonde working the room. I can't remember her name. It was insanely loud in the back room. If I lived here, this would not be a destination for me.
