We ordered margaritas which we had to go back up and ask about as the bartender never made them. This is my favorite Mexican. Hands down. The homemade tortillas are fantastic. But my entire family's favorite are the enchiladas smothered in pork chili. It's spicy, but so stinking good! Every time we're in Western Nebraska we eat here and get a bag to go! (My photo is that which we brought home) So why four stars instead of five? The atmosphere. It's in a Quonset and there is really no atmosphere at all. It's a bar. And the bathrooms are a little sketchy. If atmosphere isn't a deal breaker, you'll want to try this place. read more

The food is not bad but it is not special, either. The cheese enchiladas are made with flour tortillas, as are most enchiladas in this area, so they were slimy. The only sauce on offer has pork in it, so we did not get sauce.. as a result these were the most unappetizing enchiladas i have ever seen. The refried beans were soupy. The staff were very friendly though and we were served quickly at lunch hour. They have a set up where you start with the cashier and order and pay in advance and you get a number for your table. You serve your own drinks from the machine and take a seat with your number. We liked the concept and liked the people and we liked that the tables were far apart We liked that there was a lot of cheese in the enchiladas and the Spanish rice was good. The refried beans had to be mixed with the rice to get them on a fork, but they were flavorful. 1st you order at a counter. You fill your drinks. I got a taco plate for $11.99. My daughter a combination plate for $14.99. Chips and cheese $4.99. The chips and cheese taste just like taco casas. Passing through and staying in Scottsbluff for a family member. At first glance, the restaurant looks like its stuck in the 70s, with mismatched and random lighting all over the restaurant, random decor scattered on the walls (a metal decorative crab? at a "mexican" restaurant?), among other items like a 6ft tall ladder and vacuum sitting in the corner in open sight, creating an overall clustered atmosphere and confusing aesthetic. The menu is sparse, and the food portions compared to the price dont match. And not in a good way. Now onto the food itself. -The rice was completely unseasoned, overcooked, and mushy. I could not discern a single grain of rice from the other as it was one giant clump. -The beans were also essentially flavorless mush, but they had a semi decent consistency -The ground beef is unseasoned and seems like they make it in the morning in a big batch or something as it was not fresh whatsoever and clumpy. -Anything they fry here must be fried in week old frying oil, as i could not eat 2/3 of the items on my combination plate. The only thing i could really tell what i was eating was the enchilada as the hard shell taco was essentially in the shape of an open face sandwich, so basically impossible to eat as a taco would normally be eaten. The iceberg lettuce was good though. If you want mexican food, just go to any other mexican restaurant around here, i havent been, but anything has to be better than here. if this restaurants competitors ever close, just go to taco bell. taco bell is more authentic than this place. read more

My girlfriend loves to eat here so I've been here dozens of times. Not always the most authentic Mexican food. But pretty good on flavor. I like getting the combination plate. Pork chili is excellent here. A decent amount of options worth a shot to see if you enjoy them. There is a bar and also high table/chairs. Along with tables and booths I didn't get a picture of. An event room is also available for parties or gatherings. Service is always good and the food is prepped quickly. Location is secluded but still close to other places and restaurant is maintained well. Parking is plentiful. read more

Hands down my favorite restaurant in the area. Even when I moved away to college, it was the only place I would always make sure I visited when back home for the weekend or summer. Staff is fantastic and make you feel more than welcome and comfortable. I can't even describe how delicious the food is - you simply have to try it for yourself! I recommend the enchilada plate with a margarita on the rocks! Plus, I've never had pork chili that compares to that of El Charrito! We were expecting it to be a little better, but no. The menu was simple and not much variety. The cheese enchiladas are 2 out of 5 stars. You could probably make it yourself. And it was NOT cheap! I do not live in NE anymore, however this used to be a MUST STOP for me. I was here this past weekend and I was very surprised at their very HIGH prices. I live in Denver and I was shocked to see how much their food is compared to Mexican restaurants in this area! The portions are also a lot smaller than I remember. My husband and I come through Scottsbluff, NE almost every weekend. It is a MUST to stop at El Charrito to have my tamale's. My husband always eats the fried taco's and cannot wait to get back for more. This place not only has great food but the staff is always kind and helpful with whatever needs or requests you might have. They also have a great bar area to have a few cocktails.
