Great food with an extremely clean environment. Great Staff so helpful. The best Barbacoa this side of San Antonio. Very convenient and reasonably priced. This is our go to place for Breakfast Tacos. It's more of a pick up place than a dine in restaurant. There are tables available but we usually get our order to go. Our Granddaughters live in Nebraska and when they visit, they always want Barbacoa from Taco Rey. If we are driving up to visit them, we purchase three pounds of lean Barbacoa and freeze it along with Taco Rey's handmade Tortillas, both Corn and Flour. We also bring up Taco Rey Salsa which is homemade as well. I highly recommend Taco Rey. read more

Super fast to go service. Excellent flour tortillas. Beans are very flavorful. Waitstaff are super friendly. read more

First time at Taco Rey and honestly I enjoyed myself. Very welcoming and the food is great. Will be shopping again.

Homemade tortillas, Mom and Pop (literally, I think), hole-in-hall. Trashcan tacos are the best and a great deal!

The tortillas are homemade and the salsa is good. I recommend their unique taco Rey taco which has a bit of everything.

Cute taco place in hidden gem spot next to awesome coffee spot. Bacon and egg, bean and cheese, and papa with egg on homemade tortillas! Salsa was also fresh and tasty. No pics because we were hungry! read more

Taco Rey - a variety of condiments on a table - Mexican Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

Wasn't able to get a picture because I ate my tacos so fast. I was next-door enjoying the coffee flights and decided to grab a taco. I got a potato and egg with cheese and use the green salsa. It was good. Your averahe taco, but the service was great. They have a taco ready quickly, so I could enjoy it with my coffee next door. I definitely would come back and eat breakfast here again. read more

Just ate the taco Rey was good my friend ate sausage and eggs she said was ok place nice and clean small and nice

We stopped in for breakfast. It's a small place but the person who helped us was so nice. We got a variety of breakfast tacos and they were all really good with huge portions (we each could only finish one). read more

Best spot fo breakfast! When I first moved to San Antonio I couldn't stop ordering from this spot because their breakfast tacos are amazing! My usual order is either their 3 breakfast taco deal or a burrito. The prices are very cheap too. Definitely should visit this spot! read more

Taco Rey is my go to spot for weekend breakfast tacos! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the Taco Cabana assortment my boss will bring in during the week for morning meetings, but this is San Antonio and standards are high; especially on a Sunday morning. Their flour and corn tortillas made in house fresh, as are the fillings. Watching everything hit that flat top knowing it will soon be ready for devouring gets the day started right. I usually go for a carne guisada w/cheese and onions on corn tortillas, and the classic bacon, egg, and cheese on flour. They have a ton more on the menu (including actual breakfast plates) but love my usual order so much I haven't tried them unfortunately, haha. read more

Food outstanding authentic and great prices.. been going here for years.. first time trying there tacos I fell in love..

Prices are actually very fair the chips are a little on the greasy side for me but the food and the people more than make up for it. The only thing holding them back from 5 stars is the competition SA is the best at breakfast tacos theirs come up a little short. The Gorditas and chilaquiles thought, chefs kiss read more

Well known source for two things only.... TRASH CAN TACOS, and inconsistent rude service that ticks me off. They actually do have other stuff on the menu, but it didn't get ordered twice. I can always depend on this to satisfy. One is enough. If Taco Rey could even say hi as I walked up to the counter I might squeeze out an extra star. But like a gas station with the right price, I'll keep going back, despite the service. Their overstuffed homemade tortillas with wonderful mixed textures of meats, cheese, beans, and who knows what will leave little room to add salsa. Dining space is small and uninviting counter help is as friendly as a drive through window. Repeat visits have also caused me to take the time to check my change as I've been shorted on several occasions. read more

Taco Rey - the front of a taco rey restaurant - Mexican Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

I really like this little family business. I would give it five stars because of the combination of customer service and how the food taste. Definitely worth trying. It's more of a fast food place, but has that authentic flavor. The menu is pretty huge, so you will frequent this place often to try it all. read more

This place was great! Loved that they are nestled beside Medina Coffee too! I had the breakfast tacos and the pancake platter....delicious!! The prices are great and the cashier is a sweetie! Definitely come here for breakfast and lunch! read more

Found this place by a random google search. Not a lot of reviews on yelp, so we didn't know what to expect. They served warm chips and salsa when we sat down. My friend got horchata and al pastor taco. Lots of meat and the horchata wasn't too sweet. I was "adventurous" and got a torta. The bread was FRESH and the sandwich was tasty. You pay at the counter when you leave and we saw them making fresh flour tortillas. This place isn't fancy but it hit the spot! I'd absolutely recommend it. Also, service was prompt and friendly! read more

Taco Rey - 1/2 of my carne guisada torta - Mexican Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

This food was amazing and everything we ordered from the menudo, barbacoa tacos and torta were delicious The babacoa was freshly made and the salsa that came with the chips was so delicious. Definitely authentic Mexican food. Service was spot on place was clean. A must try!!! read more

We saw that there was a local taco shop doing a promo but their line was out the WAZOO so we decided to try Taco Rey after the urgings of our nephew. The offerings of types of tacos were unlike ones we had seen at any other taco shop- including the nopales and egg taco that my hubs tried which had a fresh taste, and the Potato a la mex which was large chunks of potato with diced grilled veggies. I went with my ever so usual bean and egg and hubs with potato and egg. The red salsa was a kick- I told my mother in law it might actually kill her (haha). The green was very mild. The downside was the ride home lead to the bag leaking grease (womp womp). We will probably return with the nephew to try the tortas sometime soon :) read more

This place was fantastic! Everything I ordered here was amazing. I haven't had Mexican food this authentic and good in a long time. Thanks for the awesome food! read more

Taco Rey - Mexican Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

My co-worker and I order 20+ breakfast tacos here weekly and they always come out in timely manner. The cashiers are usually pretty friendly, and you definitely get a 'dive' taco shop feel. Personally, the breakfast tacos never disappoint, but they also aren't anything life changing. Pretty limited seating, but a great place to pick up some good food or dine-in with a small group! read more

I'll be brief about this place. No. To elaborate, the Al Pastor did not taste good, I mean it was top 5 worst I've had in my life. The carne guisada was decent at best, bordering on being slightly chewy, the bean and cheese was off too. The refried beans had no flavor. The only thing that I can remember about this place is that it had a picture of a naked girl in the back (attached). That was the most pleasant thing about the place. The eggs were alright, won't be coming back. In short: No. read more

I saw that this place had good pastor Tortas in the express news online article. I went. By myself for lunch. Ordered a pastor torts with a side of borracho beans. Waitress gives me chips salsa. The green is spicy and good. I take two bites of the torta. Stand up walk to the counter. Who made this torta?!? I ask. I hear. He did. I say. Sir. This is the best pastor torta I've had. Since then. I've gone on a biweekly occasion. Barbacoa. Solid. Menudo. Solid. Ham egg a la Mexicana. Solid. But I like that this place is family owned and when I go in they call me guero and treat me like family. read more

Ordered a potato, egg and MOLDY CHEESE taco this morning!!! Seriously my taco this morning had moldy cheese sitting right on top. I had already gotten home with it so I didn't go back but ew gross. Probably will never be going back there read more

The flavors of food are okay but the portions are tiny at least when you order to go. Might as well go to a different spot get a bigger serving. 3.50 for a carne guisada is reasonable but not when it has like 4 pieces of meat, come on. And I've tried breakfast tacos and fajitas from here and they are all the same tiny size. You are definitely not getting your money's worth. The only reason to go to this place is if you live next to it and don't want to drive further down the road. read more

well i could not believe these people . I was trying to get a catering order for my job but was told the manager had no time to talk to me. I aske why and the response i got was sorry. I was told by the satff uaquinto could not speak right now. so i will take my buissnes elswhere. read more

Taco Rey - 3 tacos with chorizo & egg for $3.50. Delicious with homemade tortillas - Mexican Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

I live their breakfast tacos. Tortillas made right there in front of you. Try the migas taco or the taco trash. Super friendly people too.

Great food. The breakfast tacos are always made fresh per order. The trash can taco is the best taco with all the extras.

I got a "taco king" burrito. I feel like I was pre judged since the only 2 options verbally told were beef/chicken... I asked for Barbacoa. I requested rice added inside. The burrito I got only had Barbacoa and rice. No beans, no sour cream, and only cheese on top. I'm not even sure if this has gravy on top. I won't be going back smh. read more

Will not eat here again got street tacos and they burnt the meat and it is real salty. Plus he touches your tortillas without any gloves.

I agree with the previous writer about the tortas al pastor; they are fantastic! The guisada and carne asada tacos are also excellent. The salsas are made fresh; I can't decide if I like the traditional red sauce, the spicy green sauce or the hot habanero sauce the most. I guess it depends on your mood. This is a mom/pop operation and we should support it during these crazy pandemic times; the restaurant is always clean, and the food has always been consistent. read more

This was my first stop on my mission to find some breakfast tacos that are actually flavorful on the northside and Taco Rey failed to meet that challenge. I ordered one bean and cheese and one papas rancheras. The tortillas did not have that homemade taste, for starters. Secondly, the beans were runny and flavorless. The cheese would have helped if they would have actually put a significant amount on the taco, but there was hardly any. The papas were lacking ranchera sauce - it did have onion and bell pepper, but not enough to add any significant difference in flavor. This place is less than mediocre, so I will have to continue my search. I would not reccomend if your looking for the best breakfast taco. read more

It's been hard to find a good breakfast burrito here in San Antonio but I have hit the jackpot. I ordered the Egg, Bean burrito and they were nice enough to add Nopales to the burrito. The nopales were sweet, cooked perfectly and the beans were delicious. I will definitely be going back. read more

WOW. Perhaps some of the best breakfast tacos I have ever tried. The eggs were moist and for the price, I was surprised by the overall quantity and quality. The service is great, the food is even better.. Will go back. read more

I tend to hit this place most Saturday mornings - it's fast, it's a little dirty and greasy, and it's just so delicious. This is the kind of place that makes me love San Antonio - it's not terribly well-known nor in a popular area and the tacos are unique and cheap. Isn't that why we live here? read more

Not a bad place to get a breakfast taco or burrito. I ordered a breakast burrito of chorizo and egg all the way wich came with cheese rice and beans. I also go the verde sala which was pretty spicy. It made for a good, filling breakfast that was a good price. I noticed that they had tacos al pastor on their lunch and dinner menu. I developed a love for al pastor when I lived in California so I'll definitely be back to try it, and if it's good enough I'll re-review this place and give it another star. read more

I forgot why I stopped coming here for tacos. Taco Rey is over priced for the tiny tacos they serve. $2.50 for a carne guisada taco??? And they always seem to tack on a .40 charge everytime I go and claim its a to-go charge or a styrofoam cup charge! I didn't ask for a styrofoam cup, you gave it to me...don't get me wrong, the food is good and so is the service, it's just over priced and the cashier seems to love to over charge...just sayin'... read more
