Came here after dropping off my car at my mechanic late one night.. was super hungry and thought I'd stop by some random restaurant and once I bit into their fish taco I knew this place was special. The roasted peppers were bomb! The salsa was good, the fish taco was crispy til the very last bite! we didn't need to try anything else. I bookmarked this place at once and now I can't wait to get my car back so I can stop by here again! My husband works in OC and his coworkers told me they opened one up there so I'll have to check that out, too! There's a reason they don't serve too much stuff, why serve anything else when you've already perfected something?! The staff are super friendly too. The food was good, but it was way too hot inside. It was a hot day but they need better cooling. Was a little grossed out that they put salsa/chile in shared public plastic bottles for customers to use instead of little individual containers, but at least they arent stingy. I understand thats the norm but it always grosses me out to use something everyone touched while eating tacos no less. The service workers were nice and deserve a raise. I met a friend for lunch and we both wanted tacos, funny thing was that we both said Taco Nazo as to where we wanted to go. My personal favorite here are the Shrimp Tacos. They come with some freshly shaved cabbage, pico de gallo and crema. I ordered the combo which means rice, beans, a roasted yellow chili and a small bag of chips with salsa and drink. We got there just before the lunch crowd, 11:30 and we were able to find parking easily in the lot. We opted for outdoor seating since it was a nice day and enjoyed our taco lunch. During the rush, lunch hour, be prepared to find it bustling with crowds and a drive through line that almost always stretches into the street. When in South El Monte or nearby, I highly recommend el Taco Nazo for crispy fried shrimp tacos that are not greasy and full of flavor. read more

Came to Taco Nazo and encountered the rudest, laziest, and worse worker ever. Her name is Aaliyah Elizabeth. Right off the bat, she was disgustingly rude for no reason. She was wiping the table numbers so I was waiting for her to be done. Then, she looked at me and said "so are you ready yet or...?" And I said "yes I'm ready." Instead of taking my order, she continued to walk away and wipe more table numbers...so I waited for another 5 minutes until I finally asked "so..is it ok if I order now?" And she said "well yeah? You said you were ready, did you not?" LOLOL GIRL U NEED A SNICKER BAR or something. Ordered off the Instacart app and it's partnered through Uber Eats: there is price inflation though the app. Shrimp taco: better taco than the fish taco. Would recommend, shrimp is juicier so it brings out the flavor and retains more of its fried structure. Dorado (Potato) taco: it's okay, the taco was filled with a lot more potato compared to other dorado tacos. Fish taco: Soft, fluffy and bigger than normal fish tacos. El Monte is known for mostly -- well, nothing, but this industrial city in the SGV has some super-excellent eats, among them, Taco Nazo. One only has to look at the cars in their drive-thru and the people in their dining room to see that locals have known well before that Eater LA article came out: the food here is excellent. What I really appreciate about the tacos here is the care with which everything is prepared. Yes, the fish is fried expertly, but the way the cabbage is shredded so fine that a portion of it sits, cloud-like, atop the tacos. The tomatoes are diced the perfect size to add that hit of fresh umami along with sprigs of cilantro for a herbaceous nudge. The fresh garnish of this veggie mix perfectly offsets the richness of their signature crema. As far as Baja fish tacos and potato tacos go, it's a perfect bite of flavors, textures, and temperatures (shredded cheese also comes with the potato tacos dorado) The fillings in both potato and Baja fish tacos are the star -- the flavors of the fish and the mashed potato filling really come through -- but the supporting players in the garnish department add so much to the ensemble. The chile guero, the grilled seasoned yellow chili pepper, are complimentary, but are too spicy for me; I give them to my wife, who loves their spicy kick. This Taco Nazo is on the south side of Garvey, a 30-second drive past Rosemead (going east). The restaurant has been there for a while, but what the property lacks in polish is more than made up with the food, the speedy service, and the bright, clean dining room. For drinks, there's agua frescas behind the counter, a soda fountain in the dining room, and best of all, they serve beer (in bottles). Taco Nazo also offers ceviche and combos with rice and beans, but a few tacos with an agua fresca (or a bottle of Pacifico) is all one really needs to get that ideal Baja fish taco experience. read more

On a Saturday morning in late July, my sister wanted to come here for lunch. It opens at 10am and we were nicely greeted by staff. Inside it is clean with music playing with several tables and patio seating. I ordered Asada burrito and my sister orders 3 fish tacos combo w/tortilla chips and salsa. We didn't wait too long for food to arrive. My burrito was cut in half and it tasted really good. The tortilla chips were nicely fried and dipped in home made salsa. I've gone to Taco Nazo in several locations. It's one of the better seafood taco places in town. Their tacos are packed with fresh fish, cream, pico de gallo and cabbage. It tastes very fresh and the fish has no fishy smell. The battered fish will not stay crispy unless you eat it on the spot. It is surrounded by so many wet ingredients. I brought it home in about a 20 minute drive, and it wasn't too crispy, but still tasted great and the tortilla was also still sturdy. This time I also tried a taco dorado, filled with potatoes. This was apparently the popular flavor. They also have it filled with beans or ricotta cheese. If you get it with everything, it will be topped with cheese and cabbage as well as crema. The salsa is on the spicier side, I requested the green salsa (verde). One of my favorite things they serve on the side of each order is a yellow, jalapeño pepper lightly grilled and rolled in lemon salt and pepper. It is such a nice seasoning and great idea. For this order, I went through the drive-through and the service was so friendly and polite. I heard the employee giving some history of the business to the car in front of me and it was nice to witness that pride in the business. read more

This visit, they accidentally messed up my shrimp taco, but I genuinely chalk it up to an off day because they've been so reliable over the years. That said, I can't quite give five stars because the last few visits have had little mishaps here and there. Nothing major, but enough to notice. For claiming to be the best fish taco place in LA, the restaurant is setting expectations high and fails to deliver. It's not bad but I wouldn't say it is the best. I think for the price point this feels more like the restaurant is just resting on its laurels. Chains like Baja Cali or Tacos Ensenada could be comparable for fish tacos. I like that it is close by to the Whittier Narrows Recreation area, so a good stop for lunch. Also they have beer... which leads to Micheladas, perfect drink for a hot day. The patio is large and airy, but the loud and high speed dance music was distracting. Interesting drive-through set up, but cheapens the look of the restaurant associating it too fast food like a Long John Silver. read more

Supremely disappointed in our experience at this Taco Nazo location. Was initially very excited because of how busy and popular this spot is which would indicate how good the food was! Placed a 3 taco combo for the fish and potato tacos and was happily sipping on our horchata that was included with the drink. I was also surprised that they offered a free fish taco to new patrons. Honestly that's where the good ends for our meal. We placed the order for dine in at around 12:25PM and waited patiently as patron after patron received their food after us, even those that were behind us in the line. It took half an hour of waiting AND flagging a staff member before they frantically got to our order claiming a "machine" malfunction caused the delay. Seemed fine for the rest of the patrons after us... please don't make excuses... The KICKER: the potato taco wasn't even the potato it was just ricotta.. we didn't even bother to ask for a correction again. My experience was soured overall, and although the fish tacos were very good, I'll likely give their La Puente location a shot instead next time. read more

I have been passing by here the last few weeks and there's always a line to drive-thru so I made a mental note to try next time I wanted tacos. I came by on a weekday night, where the lines were not that busy. If you're coming for lunch, I would definitely budget some time because it seems to be super busy at lunch. I went through the drive thru, but I would definitely go inside if you can. The drive thru takes forever and sometimes people will not order at the call box and order at the window, making it take forever. The tacos were packed pretty well making it easy to take it back home. I ordered the 8 taco combo and ordered the fish, shrimp, carne asada and chicken to try. It also seems like they give one type of salsa, which is like a medium chipotle salsa, which I really liked. My favorite surprisingly was the chicken, it was juicy and tender. The shrimp was also pretty good. My least favorite also surprisingly was the fish, which they are famous for. I thought the fish was kind of bland and under seasoned. I thought this was a pretty good experience overall for a quick bite. I will say though that aside from the seafood, the tacos were a little pricey. I can get chicken and carne asada for a cheaper price somewhere else. I will definitely come back next time I'm craving a fish (maybe it will be better next time) or shrimp taco, but will go elsewhere for a steak or chicken. read more

The food came out high quality, well dressed and full of all the flavor and textures your tastebuds can handle. This was my first visit to this location but it was just as delicious as expected. The service was fast and super friendly. It seemed like they have their regular clientele who would keep coming in while I ate inside. There are a few tables to eat outside if you want the fresh air. Most important to note, I tried all three vegetarian tacos, and they were fire. The bean, ricotta, and potato tacos were all tasty and dressed well with the crema, veggies, and salsa. No. While the fish taco was good our experience was as soured by one of the staff members reaction when we told her one of the fish was still raw. we showed her and she asked us why we didn't mention earlier as if we can know the fish is raw without eating it. Then she went away and talked to someone and came back to say that we should've told her earlier and that she told the cook for the future. We weren't expecting them to replace it but at least say sorry the food is not cooked fully. Stopped by this place on my way home from LA and found this place. At first glance, it isn't much to look at from the outside. However when you wLk in, it is remodeled on the inside and very modern looking. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, they bring the food to your table. I ordered a small campechana and a fish taco. The fish taco was so good and filling. The campechana was full of shrimp and octopus- I was pleasantly surprised they didn't skimp out on the seafood and fill it with tomato and onion. My friend took me to this place because I had a craving for fish tacos. I had never been to this place, nor even heard of Taco Nazo, as there's no location in Ventura County. This place is a fast-food place with a drive-thru, but we opted to go inside to order and eat. It was very busy. Once we entered, a server asked if it was our first time there. My friend said she had been there before, but I admitted it was my first time. The server offered to grab us menus, but we said we could look at the big menu overhead. I ordered a ricotta cheese taco dorado, a bean taco dorado, and a potato taco dorado. Once I finished ordering, I realized their Baja-style fish taco was popular, so I mentally noted to order it in the future. The server who helped me earlier came over with a fish taco and offered to give me a brief history of Taco Dorado because it was my first time there. The Romeros founded Taco Nazo in 1978, starting as a food truck. In La Puente, you'll find the first physical location of Taco Nazo. And she said that they were going to give me their signature fish taco for free. My jaw nearly dropped to the floor, and I gratefully accepted the taco - and quick history lesson of Taco Nazo. I sat down inside and began eating the free fish taco, which was super delicious. It was flavorful, and the sauce and toppings definitely enhanced the flavor. Once my order arrived with my tacos dorados, they also gave me another free fish taco! The ricotta cheese dorado wasn't my favorite, but the bean-and-potato taco dorado was delicious. Hands down, my favorite taco was the potato dorado for its taste and texture. Next, I have to say I liked the fish taco best. I'm super sad there isn't a location in Ventura County because I would love to come here to try more on their menu. Love this place! I have family in Ensenada and grew up going, every summer, till this day! These tacos are so delicious, reminds me of Ensenada, so authentic. Amazing customer service, you are greeted as you enter, as you order and they even check on you while you're eating. Everyone is super nice and sweet. Food is authentic and delicious. If you're really hungry, the burrito may be your calling, but I find the tacos are more to my liking, and the taste and quantity is just right. As for service, it was quick and neat, with the burritos wrapped nicely in their traditional box, Making it perfect for a picnic or business lunch. Very stingy place to eat at now!!!! I liked the food at this location (El Monte), but the last few times I have gone through their drive through ordering for 4 people $60 worth of food. I asked for extra sauce (2 per person, total 8). They said they said they could only give 2 total for the entire order no mater how large the order was. What 2, for 4 people? I had to negotiate with them to get 6 tiny sauces lol..... Why are they soooooo stingy and cheap with their customers. They never used to be like this.
