Good neighborhood spot for Mexican. We had dinner there this evening it was our first time here. To my surprise they were packed on a Thursday night! The staff was friendly and once we got our table we received warm chips and salsa. It was nice that for a change the salsa was warm but it tasted like it had too much tomato. I had the 2 taco dinner with al pastor and side of rice and pinto beans. It was pretty good it wasn't your usual greasy spoon type of joint. We also had beef burritos as well and my friend loved it! I'll defiantly try this place again especially for desert next time because they have fried ice cream and I need to have an empty belly!! Reasonable prices, delicious tacos, quick & friendly service. One of the only place I know that offers tinga chicken -- my favorite! I personally feel like this place is underrated as it was always dead when I came for my lunch (around 1pm). When we first moved out to the Oswego area this was our number 1 favorite place to eat mexican food but unfortunately this place has gone down hill big time. The last two times my family and I have been in here, we were treated poorly because of discrepancy over an order that they messed up. The employees were clearly talking about us in spanish and Well, my wife speaks spanish so she understood what they were saying so we will never be going back. They seemed to have a major problem with me not wanting rice in my burrito bowl which seems like a pretty easy thing to leave out of an order. Also their AC is always out, the tv menu was broken for over a year and the prices are way to expensive for a little taco shack in Montgomery. Sooo the moral to my story is, peace out taco madre. This was an absolutely fantastic dinner and I'm glad my sweetie suggested it as a new place to try. I had the steak fajitas, my 5 year old (picky eater) daughter enjoyed a beef taco, and my wife had chimichangas. All three of us were happy with our dinners, the service, and the price was right. The steak fajitas were delicious. The steak was cooked well and seasoned perfectly. The surprising part for me was how well the onions, peppers and tomatoes were seasoned: They blew me away. I'll definitely order them again some time. The only slight downside is if you're disabled it's not really wheelchair friendly and the chairs were a bit rough on me. A wheelchair just wouldn't fit; it's a relatively small place and the tables are packed in as tightly as they can. Like an oasis in the desert, sometimes great places pop up in the most unexpected areas. Taco Madre is such a place. Located on the corner of Nowhere and Nothing, Taco Madre is definitely something. it's something to taste, experience and savor. It's something to enjoy and delight in and it is something to make a trip to. Why? For starters, the complimentary chips are served warm with a little seasoning on them. Alongside the homemade chips, comes the homemade salsa in a bowl and three optional salsas in plastic bottles. To top it off, refills on the chips are complimentary. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The menu has Mexican and American food like burgers and fries. They serve beer and margaritas. I had a Victoria beer with a lime and it hit the spot just fine. Oh, and the prices are right and the food is awesome. I went with just two tacos: the Mahi Mahi and the Chalinga, a combination of chorizo, pork and steak served with fresh avocado and a sauce of some sort. Both were amazing and just the right amount of food for lunch. The price was like $10 or so, including the beer. So if you find yourself with five miles of Montgomery, go to Taco Madre. Omw my wife is addicted to this place. We moved here from Texas and have just awful Mexican food since we arrived. This place came recommended by a friend. It's easy to pass by because it does not face the main road. The staff is incredible, so nice and friendly. We have had tacos, burritos and tamales so far, all excellent. My wife's favorite are the steak tacos which I also like. The tamales are made on site and are a little spicy which I love. The rice is great too. It is small inside but has a big TV which is nice on sports days but very clean with an open kitchen. I wish they had pasole or manudo and a few others of my Mexican favorites like gorditas but what they have is great. read more

Actual 2 1/2 stars Let me start by saying I drove out of my way to come her based on the reviews. Heads up to those who are hungry. The small two bite tacos are not worthy of a 4 1/2 star rating. Once again I've been fooled by the people on Yelp. Stop being satisfied with mediocrity! I ordered three tacos, one steak, one al pastor, and one Chilango (steak, chorizo, grilled onions and jalapeños with cheese) Starting with the Chilango, this was literally the smallest of the three tacos. The meat was almost non existent. The flavor was ok. It definitely did not live up to its specialty category. The $2.99 price tag was outrageous for a taco of that size. The next one was the al pastor. This taco had decent flavor. Unfortunately it was once again a dwarf size taco. A couple more bites would have been nice. $2.69 Finally, was the steak taco, which also lacked in flavor, but at least it was small so I wasn't disappointed for long. It's a small price to pay for delicious food. $2.49 for a taco, which is a little pricey. You can have then in American style (with montery jack cheese, lettuce and tomato) or Mexican style (with onion and cilantro). Besides tacos, they have the usual Mexican fare such as quesadillas, fajitas, burritos, enchiladas and tostada. In addition, they offer burgers and fries. Best steak tacos in town! I love their rice and refried beans. The beans are served in a mini taco shell which is a nice touch when carrying out. They use high quality ingredients and food is always fresh/hot and served fast. Today I tried the nachos supreme with steak & was not disappointed. I expected a small order but it was actually a large portion and very filling. The tamales are good but need to be filled with a little more meat. Okay for a nothing open or don't want to drive far, oh let's get taco madre.. we experienced that twice and got the same result. We were looking for some good eats in the neighborhood and saw the reviews on Yelp. The reviews were spot on. The service was definitely friendly and the salsas was definitely delicious. Folks were right about the avocado salsa. That was very good. There was also a smoky red salsa and another greenish tomatillo salsa--both absolutely deelish. I ordered two fish and one shrimp taco --probably some of the best fish and shrimp tacos I have had. They don't put a slaw on theirs. It's covered in cheese, tomatoes and lettuce. The rice and beans were amazing and a large portion. My husband ordered his standard carne asada and said it was the best he's ever had. And he's done extensive research. Why only 4 stars? Well Done! I'm hooked and a fan. This was my first stop here and it impressed. When I drove up there were no cars in the parking lot and my first thought was damn another very well review place that shut down. Not so with this place. I spied the open sign and parked. The sit down portion is small maybe a dozen tables. The stars here are the food and service! I was greeted very warmly. I decided on the three taco (chicken) meal. $12 with a drink. Not bad considering. Well before I could sit a gentleman was bringing out warm salsa and chips! I could see the heat rising off of the chips and salsa. I thought sweet I love warm chips and salsa. BTW they were fantastic! I would go back and just eat chips and salsa if I could. Before I had down half a dozen chips my food was out and in front of me. See attached pic. I was amazed at the speed. Plus it looked damn good. Let me say I tried both sauces the green and red. Neither were overly hot both added to the meal and experience rather than sending me running for cold milk to put the fire out. Over all the place is great. If your lucky enough to be close stop by and give them a try. They are close to me so if you see me say hello. So we've been here a couple times.. The person who is supposed to take your order when you walk up to the register is also the same person who happens to be on the phone taking an order at the same time so you kind of just stand there until she's done with her call. The carnitas tacos are probably the best thing here along with their rice and beans. They are to die for! Chicken tacos are good. However, I'm not the biggest fan of the weird seasoned salt they use on their chips and French fries. It's also a little pricy and doesn't have a lot of seating. I also remember being very cold the last time we went. Might of been the fact that there are a lot of windows but I'm sure turning up the heat a bit would've helped. Being stuck all day in Aurora at softball fields, my family needed some real nourishment. I found Taco Madre and couldn't have been happier! This place is an oasis in a sea of fast food. The outside isn't much to look at, but inside it's the nicest taco joint I've seen. Great prices, freshly cooked tacos, and a killer pineapple juice drink make this place tops in the area. The manager, Isreal, greeted me with a smile and even gave me a few things to try out, on the house. For that alone, I give this guy props. I've never heard a bad thing about this place, so I was eager to try it. So brought my daughter today for her birthday. I personally was not impressed. $30 for 2 burritos rice was hard and not fresh, chips were stale and the meat was not made to order, it was poorly heated up. Food came out in less then 1 min, so it was obviously not cooked to order. The order was wrong but quickly fixed.... food definitely comes out fast! Now the ac was out I didn't mind at all but I'm sure the workers were hot , so maybe they were doing some shortcuts today to try to stay cool . They do a nice job plating the food, it looked appealing. Food was also bland and just warm. I wouldn't mind the price at all if the quality was there .
