Taco Lucha is one of my favorite restaurants and bars in Manhattan! The food is always great and the drinks are delicious and cheap. It is a small location and gets very busy, so expect to wait if you're going on a weekend. The outdoor patio is an awesome place to sit for dinner or drinks and even has heaters so don't be afraid to sit outside if it's cold! Checks all things important - delicious food, great service, fun atmosphere and clean bathrooms. Coming here on a game day of any kind is risky because you will be waiting for awhile. This restaurant is fairly small so good luck! Once you're seated though you are sure to be happy! We started with the Chipotle Raspberry dip and it was fantastic! The cheese is so mild with a perfect texture mixed with black beans and sweet raspberry sauce, gimme more!!!!! Everything on the menu sounds tasty but I got the Cali Buritto (beans, no meat). They are generous with the avocado portion and who doesn't love that! The flavor was spot on and fresh. Their potatoes were somewhat spicy and did not lack flavor. Since I've had So-long-saloon before, I knew the experience should be the same. Walking inside the establishment, the place was packed. All the booth seats, tables, and bar was packed. Even the seating to wait for a table was full. Even though we had no place to sit at the time, the owner got our drink orders in and let us have our drink until we finally got our seating. It was just the 3 of us at the time, and I think we only waited about 15-20 minutes. This all happened on a Sunday afternoon. The place is very colorful, and well decorated for a restaurant to be themed over the Luchadors or in English, Mexican wrestling. The ceiling tiles were gold and decorated, and there were some interesting chandeliers as well. What makes this place shine is the extremely good customer service. The owner, waitresses are there to make sure everything is going well for their customers. Each food that gets sent out, is inspected by the owner. That's good quality control there. Waitresses don't pester you too much, and know when your drink is low. The menu is fairly small, but simple. You'll most likely spend about 10-12 dollars for yourself, so it's not too expensive. The tacos I ordered were the: El Mexicano, Buffalo Chicken, and Slayer Taco. My friends ordered the Burritos, which there are 3 to choose from. Our order probably only took 15-20 minutes to be made and served. My plate of tacos was colorful, fresh, and original. Each taco comes on with 2 freshly made tortillas. Although not huge, enough to fill you up. The burritos my friends had were huge and smothered with melted cheese. They didn't really look all the special to me. Just looks like something you can get at any Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere and service are top notch. Definitely a good experience and will come back. read more

Seriously this place has no business making tacos. Maybe in Kansas, but the food is bland and so far from authentic. For instance, you can't serve randomly chopped chicken with some tomatoes and call it tinga, and you should probably know the difference between carnitas and al pastor (they do a lame job of making what is on the menu as carnitas -- but isn't that either -- be kinda like al pastor because of the big chunks of pineapple and cilantro). The XXX hot sauce on the table doesn't event warrant one X - not even medium spicy. The michelada wasn't tasty either. I bet this place is really fun during the school year as a bar and that the food tastes fine when you're partying and have the munchies. But for dinner when you want good tacos? Everything about Lucha is amazing! The ambience, the people, the food! The servers and bartenders seem like one big family and everyone makes you feel so welcome right when you go through the door! Highly recommend the Super Nachos especially substituting the pork for grilled chicken, YUM! Raspberry bean is a must try for first comers and then any and every taco is delicious! Drinks to drink would be any type of Nancy, my favorite is the dirty Nancy, and then strawberry summer beer! Sit on the patio or inside both areas have amazing vibes! Man. I don't even know where to begin. Firstly, if you're nervous in crowds you might have a hard time because this is one of the most popular spots in town. If that is your issue, try to go as early as possible. You can't go wrong with any of the food on their menu. I absolutely love all their tacos. They do daily specialties - like their peanut butter taco. It sounds risky but worth every bite. And if you're looking for the best "cocktail" in town they have it. Make some eye contact with one of their bartenders and straight up go PIRATE NANCY. You will not regret it. Great atmosphere, good staff, amazing food. You can't go wrong. read more

One of our favorite spots in Manhattan! We first fell in love with the peanut butter tacos 5 years ago and we still crave them all the time. You can only get them on Tuesdays (they should really add them to the menu and come up with a new Tuesday special) but everything we've tried is delicious. The black and blues are our favorite taco any other day of the week and we've been meaning to try the Nachos which always look amazing when we see another table order them. My husband and I came here shortly after moving to Manhattan. We enjoyed our experience, but we haven't been back. I ordered a burrito, and he had a few tacos. We agreed the food was good but not the best we've had. I don't understand serving potatoes with Mexican food. My burrito was good, but it was also huge and kinda hard to eat. I didn't finish any of my burrito, potatoes, or beans. And I usually clean my plate when we get Mexican. Pretty disappointing atmosphere. They have gone from really great to just making us feel like we aren't welcome there....over and over. Most recently, the hostess got mad at me when we didn't want to sit at the bar, then eluded to us that sitting indoors otherwise wasn't possible, because they were saving those tables for regulars. I was in town for my daughter's sorority's mom's (triple possessive again - not sure if that is grammatically correct...) weekend and we came here for dinner on a Friday night around 7. The place was PACKED!!!! It is a very brightly decorated place with lucha libre masks and other mexican wrestling related items. Hence the name. Even though the place was packed, the owner/manager pushed his way through the crowd as each person entered, asked them how many were in their party, told them how long it would be before they were seated and took their drink orders. No asking for a credit card or money - he just made a note by each parties' name. Very proficient and efficient. It took us about 20 minutes or so to get seated and I kept on hearing kids order a "nancy". What is a nancy, I ask. It is an Old Milwaukee with pineapple juice (fresh) and it is only $2. I order one and it is actually good! Yay! I feel like one of the kids. OK, maybe not. We are seated at the bar and the bartender waits on us. She is very personable and chatty, as are the patrons and all the other servers. A very up-beat place. We ask the bartender several questions about the menu and decide on the chipotle raspberry & bean dip (my daughter's idea) which everyone raves about. She gets a couple of fish tacos and I get one slayer taco (spicy) and one buffalo chicken taco. We get our appetizer in a few minutes. It is very good. I'm not a huge fan of black beans and I really liked the appetizer. In about 15 minutes more we get our main dishes. The plate presentation was very nice. These are street tacos served on two small soft corn shells. All three types of tacos are good. I probably wouldn't order the buffalo chicken again, just because I prefer spicy, but I wanted to try something a bit different. This will probably be an annual stop during mom's weekend for us. Not sure if I would want to mess with the crowd during a football weekend, though. Great place! read more

For Manhattan, KS, this place is the bomb diggity. Their El Mexicano Taco is my favorite thus far. I tried The Beast Burrito last night, of which the main meat is chorizo and it was delicious!! I can't wait to try everything else on the menu! The ambiance of this place is really soothing and chill, which I like. And the owner is of course, the same person who owns So Long and he is always friendly and funny. If this place were in southern California, I would probably give is 4 stars, but because the selection in Kansas is a bit on the slim side, I definitely can give it 5 stars as it's now one of my most favorite restaurants to eat at here! =) read more

This is a must stop in Manhattan. The service is great, and everyone is super friendly. They have a great selection of appetizers (their salsas, and raspberry-black bean dip are mmmazing), entrees, and tacos. Their specialty drinks are just what you need if you love tequila or want to feel like you have gone south for a visit. I highly recommend the carnitas or fish tacos and a Poloma to drink. If you want something a little more affordable to drink, you can never go wrong with a Nancy (pineapple beer) for $2.50. Make sure you try to sit outside if it's nice! Let this be known I'm a huge KU fan, and now that my Fiance lives in Manhattan I am splitting my time between KC and the dreaded rival town, there I said it! With that aside, my Fiance and I decided to explore Aggieville one night and Yelp lead us to Taco Lucha... Yay! We're fans! Probably one of our new go to spots for authentic Mexican food/Tacos. Came on a Saturday evening, around 7pm and it was packkked! Which totally caught us off guard, but the first thing the hostess asked us when we walked us was "What would you like to drink?"....now you're talking my language. Ordered a couple of STRONG alcoholic beverages while we wait. My fiance tried their Micheladas (which was ok, not quite right yet) and I had the Granada cocktail. 20 minutes later we were seated at the bar. We came here for the sole purpose of Tacos and (his) Michelada and tacos we got. Ordered the 4 different types: The Tinga, Slayer, Back & Blue, and Buffalo Chicken. They were delicious!! Tinga and Slayer won as the 2 favorites. Both had corn tortilla (my favorite type) and packed with crazy amounts of flavor! The slayer has a good spicy kick to it for those who is into that. Definitely need to try their appetizers next time, they sounded amazing. So Manhattan, touche with your delicious local tacos. You've found a new regular! Taco Lucha has only been open a few months but it's becoming one of my favorite spots for lunch or dinner in Aggieville. Like Dan I would almost be willing to give a five star. There are just a couple of things that you might enjoy that didn't suit my palate. I've made an effort to try different items on the menu. So far my favorite has been the El Mexicano Taco. It's one of the most simple but I think this allows the flavors to shine. I also recommend the Fish Taco and the Black & Blue Taco. My least favorite has been the Slayer Taco. It wasn't a bad taco but I found the taste of all the peppers overpowered the taste of the steak. I was also excited to see them juicing fresh fruit for their drinks and made it a point of ordering one of their specialty drinks. My friend also ordered one. It was funny, neither cared for the drink we ordered. Mine was much sweeter than I expected. We tried each others, ended up liking the drink the other person had ordered and switched so it all worked out. The atmosphere is fun and funky. Get there early because it fills up FAST. I'm really looking forward to trying out more of their dishes. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Manhattan! They have speciality tacos that are unique and creative with the perfect combo of spice and flavor. On Tuesdays you should try the peanut butter taco. It has PB, a pickle, steak, sriracha, and cheese. My other favorite that is on the menu every day is the slayer. I get it wit steak but you could chose pork or chicken. It has jalapeños and a pesto jalapeño aioli that is to die for! read more

Whenever I think of Lucha, I think good vibes. The staff here are super - always efficient, always pleasant with a good service ethic. The drinks are strong, so I normally have to ask for a light pour (how often does this happen?) and they are always accommodating. The food is consistently good with typical oversize Mexican portions. The downside when students are in town - waiting, waiting....no lobby to wait in and when it's cold outside, brrr.... The patio is adorable, but it's most often just the two of us, so we take bar seats. The only thing these folks could do better is offer more innovative small plates (though the tacos do suffice here) and text me when a table opens. read more

This is probably the one restaurant I miss since moving away. My favorite tacos were the Mexicano and the black& bleu with beef. Nom nom. Their sangria or mango margaritas are great to wash it down with. This place is small and they don't have high chairs for kiddos, so plan on bringing a booster seat that attaches to the regular chair if you really need one. I absolutely adore their outdoor patio, but eating indoors at the bar with my husband on a date night is a treat as well. It shares a kitchen with the restaurant next door, but they're normally pretty expedient about getting food out.
