The tacos are amazing! Always keep an eye out for their daily special. The peanut butter tacos on Tuesdays are iconic and you always have to get a Nancy to drink. The banana margaritas are fun also. Servers are always great. This place is small so if you go during busy times, expect a wait (but it's well worth it!). They have more seating on their outdoor patio and it does have heaters and blankets for cool days. Love the vibe here. read more

Taco heaven! I came here with my family for my sisters graduation from KSU and this was my favorite restaurant in Manhattan. The tacos are awesome! I got the El Mexicano and the Slayer tacos. Both were awesome and the slayer taco was amazingly spicy. We also ordered the queso blanco dip and that was really tasty as well. Also, I loved the red sauce that they keep on the table! My mom did say that the fish taco wasn't anything special though. -1 star because they served the beers in plastic cups... huh? Is this a house party at a fraternity during freshman year? I asked why they were serving them in single use plastic and they said that they only serve them during busy weekends as their dishwasher "can't keep up". Eh. Taco Lucha was meh. I was fine with what I got (Portobella Quesadilla) but it was incredibly greasy and left me feeling a little bit regretful. We sat at the bar because there was no open seating and promptly got asked to move over so they could squeeze more people in. The bartenders were nice and attentive so that is a plus. They didn't have any vegan options for my friend but she was able to find something that they could substitute for her to accommodate her dietary restrictions. This place is better than your typical fast good Mexican restaurant, modernized, street food, and good ambient. Every time I see this place it is on its way to becoming packed so of course that's a big reason to try the food and to be aware of parking spaces. Everyone who waited or assisted me in some capacity has always been nice and mannerly and like the restaurant states, it is a little funky. Even their bar is huge and made of wood with some funky carving. I've been here a few times now and I aways get tacos, I stick to the ones I love but I do like to mix it up, they do have great flavors. You can never go wrong with chips and dip but my go to is the queso blanco and chips. My top three tacos consist of, el mexicano, slayer, and carnitas. But they have more that are certainly just as appetizing all of which can include steak, pork, chorizo, chicken, and fish. My food has always been served hot and it taste good so how could I ever complain. If you need a quick fix of Mexican cuisine this could be the place for you! read more

Wait, is this place ACTUALLY a thing? I'll be honest. I thought it was LESS than mediocre. I'm absolutely flabbergasted that this place has such high reviews. My coworker and I started with the guacamole and chips. The chips were fine (could have used a touch of salt, but no big deal). The guac? It had a level of tomato juice at the bottom that was hard to forget. As for my meal, I got a fish taco, a buffalo chicken taco, and the Lucha taters. Fish taco was good. The buffalo chicken taco tasted like someone dropped a hot sauce bottle on my taco and then sent it my way. It's all I could taste. There's bacon on this? Yup, no clue. Hot sauce and only hot sauce. As for the Lucha taters? It tasted like beef stew. If it HAD tasted good (ps it was gross), I still wouldn't be able to identify what was in it. Shredded chicken maybe? No clue. All I know is it tasted like a big helping of Dinty Moore Beef Stew. My coworker got the Taco Stack (side of beans and taters). He had a similar experience and his plate looked like he had been sentenced to twenty years to life in a state prison. Went to Taco Lucha today for the first time, after living here for almost 4 years and people telling me I "had" to try it. I ordered the steak Cali Burrito and an order of chips and (mild) salsa. The food: The chips were okay. A bit better than your run-of-the-mill type tortilla chips, but nothing to write home about. The mild salsa was decent - would be too spicy for someone who doesn't like much spice, but I liked it. The Lucha potatoes served with the burrito were different than anything I've ever had, and pretty good. The beans were better than mashed up refried beans, but again, nothing to write home about. The burrito, though, was phenomenal. Big slices of avocado, packed full of steak and a yummy aioli sauce. The portions: Plenty of chips, plenty of salsa, good size on the sides, but I honesty expected the burrito to be bigger. Maybe that's because I've had a lot of Qdoba and Chipotle in the past several years, but I was pretty disappointed when I saw it's size (based on its price) - but it is still enough to fill up just about anyone. The price: This is where they lose stars for me. Chips and salsa are not free. They cost $3.50. Now, granted, the size of salsa container is massive, so you'll run out of chips before you run out of salsa, leaving enough salsa for your food as well. The burrito was outrageous. $12 for a burrito no longer than a plastic fork (shown for size comparison). Don't get me wrong, the burrito was filling and DELICIOUS, but for $12 I would expect something bigger. For just me, to-go order with no drink, my total was just shy of $17, which I feel is way too much for a burrito and chips/salsa. read more

My hubby and i stumbled across this adorable Mexican joint as we were walking around this little town! delicious and charming, very friendly staff, great atmosphere and most importantly DAMN GOOD TACOS! Immediately welcomed as soon as a we walked in, we sat at the bar, and never had to ask for a refill on our waters, very attentive and friendly service, ordered drinks, NANCY is the best! Then after deliberation over what to eat we decided on the tacos, ordered and within 10 minutes we were stuffing our face with some of the best authentic tacoS we've ever had! I just want to begin with I have only been here once so keep that in mind. I was visiting my friend, I'm not from around there, so I'm not sure if this is the normal policy around there... I also want to mention I've heard great things about the peanut butter tacos on Tuesdays and I will be back visiting again in May and will definitely give this place another try! We put our name down and were told we'd get a text when we were to be seated. The wait was about an hour and fifteen. It was about 6:35 when we put our name in and got the first text saying we'd be texted again when they were ready for us. We headed across the street to Tanner's to wait for the text. During our wait, we went back twice to check in and make sure they weren't ready for us yet, and they weren't. The friend we sent over there to go check was told by the hostess that the policy was to seat the people who are waiting there first, rather than text the people who are next in line. We were right across the street and we would have waited at the restaurant if we had been told that was "the restaurant policy". I myself think that is a ridiculous policy. And if it so, that should be told upfront instead of being told that we will receive a text and practically told to go because there wasn't room in the waiting area. The third time we went back, it was about 8:45, it had been over two hours. We complained to a hostess and she was nice, listened, and was understanding and restated that was the restaurants' policy and worked to get us seated quickly. All in all, it was a pretty frustrating experience but we sat down and enjoyed our drinks and meal and like I said, I'll be back in May to give this place another try (mostly for the peanut butter tacos but hope to have a better experience as well). read more

Disclaimer: I comb Kansas City for the best traditional street tacos on a regular basis, and what a great choice we have. As a rule, I avoid the places that are stretching Mexican food into new territory because, well, to be honest, there are SO many ways to screw up what should be good, simple food, and so many restaurants screw it up royally. Taco Lucha has managed to not only avoid that screw-up, but to soar above and beyond what I expect in this style of food. Whoever is in the kitchen and whoever dreamed up this menu... genius. I was busy with friends but what I recall, tacos with pineapple... unexpectedly great. Tacos with fish and a savory sauce that combined with the fresh lime were simply spectacular. The sauces, the appetizers we had, all first rate. And I suppose there'd be one easy way to screw-up the experience with bad service. Not a bit of it in evidence, not an easy achievement from the college age crowd servers, the bane of every fine restaurant in Manhattan and Lawrence. This does not happen by mistake. Someone is responsible for the training and oversight. My hat is off to you. Decor? First-rate, fun, intimate, but relaxed. My friends say this is the best restaurant in Manhattan. I believe it. This is a fun spot in Aggieville that you should come to at least once. The service is excellent and I love the patio. The food is so-so. I am from Texas so I am a bit particular about tacos. I understand this is fusion and have tried a variety of items on the menu, including various tacos, the famous chipotle-raspberry black bean queso dip, different house salsas, and the grilled salad. Everything is okay, but nothing is really wow. For spicy fans, get the slayer and tinga tacos. Otherwise, the dip is a house special which is also available at the sister restaurant So Long Saloon next door. Today on the patio, the fireplace was going, which was nice. Worth the wait! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is super fun, even though the place is packed 24/7. The hostess and the waitress both had excellent memories and service. The hostess didn't have to yell our name when the table was ready, she just walked over and let us know what table to go to. Our waitress brought us plenty of refills and made sure everything was perfect. Food: the fire-roasted salsa was fantastic, with enough heat to make our noses run but not so much that it blew our heads off.
