Came here for cinco de Mayo and it was great! They had $2 margaritas and $2 tacos... so how could you not! The decor for cinco was super cute with balloon arches to commemorate the day. This place got packed really quick, but service was still decent. At first you were able to order off their screen, but later in the night you had to order at the counter. I tried the chicken tacos and the beef tacos; the beef was actually a little spicy (1/5 spice) and then the chicken was just juicy; for $2 a taco you can't expect much, but tbh I was surprised they tasted better than imagined. Now for margaritas, I think I had almost every flavor.. but how could you not. My favorite flavor was the passion fruit margarita and also the mango one; the tajin straw was a nice touch to add. I did not want to like Taco Kat for two reasons. One, I adored the divy-ness of Cleo's billiard hall that was there before and two, it felt incredibly, overwhelmingly derivative. I've lived in NYC long time and my first impression of Taco Kat was that someone threw up every cool little downtown NY detail they recorded in their travel journal onto this one spot from the La Esquina/Tacombi-esque concept to the Jarritos Wall and the "unexpected" vending machine entrance to the club next door. HOWEVER, the yummy and well-priced tacos forced me to give it a fair chance! The bar/nightclub side was also dubiously a fun time and I have been back to both it and the restaurant several times now. On Tuesdays there are really attractive specials before at 8pm like $2 tacos and margs. The vibes are chill, ordering is made easy with a few kiosks or at the counter, and the food comes out pretty quickly. Despite my first impression I do recommend. read more

Taco kat was pretty good! The tacos are Sonoran style, which have some different toppings. I came for taco Tuesday and the prices were great! It was $2 tacos, but only for their basic tacos NOT the Sonoran ones. Margaritas are also $2 and they were quite strong! Packed a punch for sure. The tacos were good, but I don't think anything to rave about. Honestly I prefer black rooster over these tacos. Black rooster also hand makes their tortillas, Taco Kat I did see them come from a bag. Also one reason I would not run back to taco kat, was just the fact that it's so hard to get to! Since it's located downtown there is no parking close by, so you have to drive around and find something on the street and then walk a couple blocks. There is seating inside but it is very limited! It would be good for late night grub after the bars, but a little too many hoops to jump through to go on a casual evening. Taco Kat speakeasy has one of the coolest entrances for a speakeasy. We had heard about Taco Kat and when we were planning a quick weekend last week in Orlando, we made it a point to stop by. There isn't a way to make a reservation, so we planned to get there on the early end of the night. We were already downtown so we got over there at 930PM, a little after they opened. We should have grabbed a bite in the front first but we said we were going to the speak easy and before we knew it, we were walking through a soda machine. It was a pretty neat way to enter. The Speakeasy itself was it's own version of things. Dark lighting, loud club music and basic drinks. But it's still a nice addition to the downtown Orlando scene. They have a whole wall that's jarjitos, a great Mexican soda, that's for décor. We weren't there for long, but it was a nice spot to stop in for a drink. read more

Sonoran tacos were delicious. Had a ground beef cheesy style and a chicken Sonora style, yum. Had a beef burrito, filled to the top with beef, onions, cheese, guac and beans, again yum. An excellent mangonada and a pineapple lime Agua Fresca, slurp. Order at the counter and they call your name to pick up. Litter box ( restroom) is through the soda machine. This is a unique spot in Downtown Orlando that my husband and I visit for their delicious Senora tacos and margaritas. It's a great spot for delicious food, and if you're around late night, their "hidden bar" is fun. Taco Kat restaurant is bright and inviting, whereas the atmosphere of the hidden bar is eclectic (the Jarritos wall is pretty cool!) and dark. The fun experience of being admitted to the bar via the "secret entrance" never gets old. Highly recommend you check out their delicious menu and stop in their bar! read more

Cute inside and like their fresh looking style. The food was okay. I tried the short rib quesadilla and a side of chips and salsa. The short rib and cheese quesadilla did hit the spot as I was starved to eat lunch after skipping breakfast. The quesadilla, it was smaller than most quesadillas I would get from local places, but it was very filling so that's cool. Also ordered chips and salsa. Not sure, I think the chips are flour tortillas cut and deep fried, but didn't look or taste like corn chips to me. They were a lot more heavy, but I definitely prefer crispy corn chips with salsa. Maybe these chips are good for those out partying to soak up few drinks? My quesadilla came with a small red salsa and a small green salsa verde. I ordered extra salsa verde but I ended up not needing it since some came with my meal. Take note so you don't order extra sauce for $1 like me. If out having fun downtown I would check it out for a between party scene meal. Interesting that there is a bar area connected, plus a secret bar door inside. Overall I like what the vibe is in here, liked the quesadilla okay, but would pass on the chips next time. Really liked their red salsa flavor and it's little zing of spice. Went here for lunch on a Tuesday. They do $2 tacos and $2 margs on Tuesday. The taco was delicious, options were limited. Senora is not something I was familiar with but it was delicious. Definitely a hidden gem in the heart of downtown that also has a hidden speakeasy/lounge. I ordered the steak sonora tacos and they were packed with flavor and very authentic. Small but mighty taco shop in downtown Orlando. The service was so friendly and food came out quickly. The food was way better than I was expecting from this unassuming spot with maybe 6 4-top tables? We were advised that the carne asada and chicken were the most popular proteins for tacos--while I was hesitant to waste a taco on chicken (usually not impressive) I REALLY enjoyed both the chicken and the carne asada. The carne asada was SO juicy and they did not skimp on protein. The flour tortillas were cooked perfectly and were hearty enough to handle all the ingredients. My husband and I split the nachos as well and added ground beef and we were both really impressed with the seasoning on the beef as well as the queso on the nachos. What an awesome place with a cool vibe and the corn esquites was out of this world and I now compare all I try to this one and nothing compares. We also tried the a few different tacos but of course I loved the cheesy the best! Beer and seltzers on hand as well. We went during lunch time. Tiktok led to me TakoKat and now, even though I want to gate keep, I'm sharing it with you because it's too good not to. It is exactly what you want out of a Mexican spot. The food is delicious. And affordable. The margaritas are FIVE DOLLARS. Everyday. Oooh but they're small you might say. I was feeling pretty darn swell after two and I'm a big butch. Service was friendly, and drinks were brought to our table when it wasn't too busy. It feels like a hole in the wall which is what I want when it comes to good, cheap food. I was on a self walking "Taco Crawl"... had Carne Asada Sonoran style tacos. And a mango margarita w a tajin rim. Yummm!!!!! Margarita was strong and freshly made in front of me. So was the taco. Greeted as soon as we walked in the door. They have kiosks there to order, but since greeted and first time coming into this location we opted to order at the counter. I chose the ground beef and chicken taco prepared basico style. They were well made and had lots of filling in the taco and filled me up. The price point is in line with most taco places and they were prepared fast and as expected. They also have a "hidden" bar behind the soda machine (it was propped open when we were there) since the bathrooms were back there. The atmosphere of this place is dope and I'd definitely come back since it's a speakeasy at night, but the food here is pretty average. The size of the tacos were way too small for the price. This review pertains to the secret bar in Taco Kat: RIP OFF! First of all the vibe is not good, that may be just my opinion, but it wasn't an inviting or comfortable atmosphere. I don't think the price is out of line considering it IS DOWNTOWN and it filled me up. 2 for a light lunch had tacos a quesadilla and a drink for about $20. They have kiosks to Oder for yourself but staff was there to greet me as soon as I walked in so I ordered in person. The bathrooms are behind the soda machine so no matter what time of day you can check out the secret bar that looked pretty nice all though I can imagine it gets crowded as it's not very large. Was really excited to try this place, the pictures reminded me of Los Tacos No. 1 in NY and I was hoping the food would be just as good... however that was not the case. First off, it's downtown where there is absolutely no parking. So good luck with that. Second, the prices are insane--we ordered a taco, a taquito, chips and queso, esquites and a drink, and paid close to $30. This is not enough food to feed two grown adults (we ended up going to another restaurant after). And then unfortunately the food wasn't that good... the chips and queso was the best part and even that was sketchy--some of the chips were chewy/stale. I'm all for some delicious inauthentic "tex-mex" style tacos, but unfortunately Taco Kat didn't quite make the cut. We sampled several of the tacos, from the Sonora, Básico to the Cheesy -- if I'm honest they all tasted essentially the same aside from one of the styles having some extra cheese. As far as taste the tacos were JUST okay. The protein had no standout flavor, if anything it felt under seasoned. And the tortillas were a weird corn/flour hybrid I've never tried . The Margaritas were also just ok. For a late busy weekend night the service was pretty good, they really kept it moving even though the place was packed with people. All in all, I will probably skip this taco kat next time I'm back in town. read more
