Always consistent and good. It's fast food in "American Mexican" style but always good!

Not a good taco. It is really affordable but not good. If you want a cheap taco I would say do a carry out at a Mexican restaurant instead.

Review Visit: July 28th, 2013…read more Super Gyros was Super Good! Our buddy was in town while on leave from the Navy and we agreed to get lunch at Super Gyros. We didn't spend much time inside as we spent more time after lunch talking in the parking lot about random stuff. What I can tell you is that Super Gyros has your typical layout of a McDonald's or Hardees/Carl Jrs. There is a counter with menus up and behind the cashier. They take your order, you get a number, you grab a seat and you either have the food brought out to you or you pick it up at the counter. I am a newbie when it comes to gyros, so I had a hard time deciphering the menu. I settled on a lamb gyro combo. I know soda and I know french fries, but this was my first gyro. We grabbed a table and caught up on times while we waited for our food. It didn't take long as there wasn't too many people ordering food. I actually never see more than 1-2 people ordering from here at a time, so I am surprised it is still in busy as of late 2020. But, it's good to see they are still open. Back on track. After 10 minutes, all three of us had our food out in front of us and I was staring at my gyro like a deer in headlights. I didn't know if I should roll it up like a burrito to eat or fold it in half like a taco. I think I did a half-hearted burrito roll that left more of it on the wax paper than in my mouth. I tell you what... for never having a gyro nor lamb before, this was fantastic. The gyro wrap itself was thicker than a tortilla shell but not impossibly too thick to enjoy. It complimented the meat and toppings well. It sparked a small love in me for gyros that I didn't know was there. Going back to these niche places is hard for me for whatever reason. I've been by this place a million times in the following years but never had I returned, either solo or with someone. Maybe someday I will get to experience it again and all the other places I've been that haven't gotten a second visit.

While Steak and Shake was started in Normal...the 2nd Steak and Shake was placed here alongside the Illinois River. The original SS in East Peoria sat about 100 yards from the current SS. A few years ago they tore down the originalEast Peoria SS and built this one. Most every SS is uniform in shape and size, but this is the largest SS! It features over twice the dining space as ordinary SS's. When the weather is nice out this SS features outside dining with a great overlooking view of the Illinois River If you have never been to a SS, it is kinda closest to diner fare. Very good burgers made in plain site on a large flat grill. Milkshakes made from real hard ice cream and some of the best chili this side of Cincinnati. Of course that's most peoples opinion. The food here is average for a SS. I've had pretty good luck with the service. Just depends on the time of night. Being they are open 24/7 and right across the river from downtown Peoria, it can get real busy between 12-3am. Overall I like this particular SS and it stands out as being a bit different from most other SS's you may encounter.

Review Visit: September 14th, 2014…read more Thems some dang good biscuits. After exploring the The Nina and The Pinta boats that were anchored in Peoria, we needed some grub. I asked my dad if he had any specific place he wanted to try. He said he did not. I asked if he wanted to check out Popeye's and that's where we ended up going. It was a new eating experience for us both as Popeye's have just started to pop up in Central Illinois. I typically don't review big chains but I make the exception if they are new to the area. Popeye's is a fast food chicken slinging place. You order your food at the counter and either get it to go or dine in. We opted to dine in as we had the afternoon free. Plus, dining in is part of the experience. We both stuck with a standard combo since we didn't know what to expect. Our combos were fairly basic: chicken, fries, and sides. I opted for some coleslaw and a biscuit to accompany my main food. The place was a bit busy and we did end up waiting awhile for our food to come out. Frying chicken has to take a bit longer to cook than your usual fast food offerings. The wait was to be expected as the restaurant was new and still had that busyness to it that comes with any new place that opens. At long last, our food came out and it looked tasty and smelled delicious. It was about the halfway point through our meal that we broke the silence and said the same thing. This wasn't really worth it. Its not to say the food was awful. Its just that everything tasted so... bland? The chicken tasted like nothing despite the breading. There was a definite lack of spices in the batter or something like that. The french fries were alright, if not a bit soggy for my tastes. Again, that is just a personal preference on the fries. The coleslaw was forgettable but I feel that way about coleslaw in general. Its a side dish I like but not one I ever crave. Again, personal preference there. So, was any of this meal good? Yes. The biscuit of all things. Somehow that biscuit, despite being a bit dry as biscuits usually are, packed a ton of flavor in the puck-shaped baked goodness. I'm not a biscuit lover by any means but this place had me reconsidering that. The thing was just dripping (metaphorically) in butter-y flavor. I strongly debated getting one to go until I saw the line at the counter. We did finish the meal and sat there a little bit longer as we let the food settle. While we sat there, we discussed the cool ships we saw earlier in the afternoon and made some small talk about the lack of enthusiasm we had for our meal. We left and that was our experience. But was that my only experience with Popeye's? Nope. Going a bit off the usual path, I have been back many times with my friend Tim. He loves this place and will pick it as a lunch spot when we hang out. My experience with Popeye's has stayed pretty much the same since my first visit. Their food is just okay with the exception of two things. Their biscuits are my weakness and their new chicken sandwich, in my opinionated opinion, was awesome. I did eventually try it after the hype wore off and it was no longer a matter of life and death trying to order it. That chicken sandwich was seriously one of my favorites. The staff at the Popeye's Tim and I visit (we've visited multiple) do leave a lot to be desired. Each time we've gone, we've gotten less than the bare minimum effort from those working. It seems like none of them want to be there and doing their job is a painful process. We've never had an issue with our food but it does sully the experience when it feels like you are the biggest inconvenience in the world. The last two paragraphs don't factor in to my score but it is something to keep in mind if you are wanting to try Popeye's. I would revise the score to a 2 based on the poor customer service we receive when we go. No amount of love for their biscuits or the chicken sandwich can excuse the attitudes from the staff.

Could improve everything and anything. I tried to go there and when I went through drive through…read moreemployee called me a Karen before I could even order. I was like what the hell. Review Visit: September 15th, 2013…read more Jersey accent not needed to order here. Out of nowhere, Jersey Mike's appeared in East Peoria. I only knew this because I got a flyer in the mail offering a free sandwich for the grand opening of Jersey Mike's. Matt got the same flyer in the mail, so I asked him if he wanted to check the place out. He agreed and we found an afternoon we were both free to redeem our free sandwiches. We got lucky as there wasn't a long wait for us to order our food. The coupon we had was for a free sandwich but we also grabbed some chips and soda to round out the meal. From what I remember, ordering a sub here is like any other sub shop. You pick out what sandwich you want from the menu and then you can customize it to your liking. Matt and I placed our ordered, waited for our food and took a seat outside. I grew up eating Subway in my late teens and early 20s so I am all too familiar with eating and ordering sub sandwiches. It wasn't until I started to travel that I realized that sub sandwiches have more to them than the mass-produced stuff they have at Subway. I've tried Head West, Firehouse Subs, Snarfs, and a few others. Once I tried these places, I haven't had Subway since. It's just my personal opinion but I feel these smaller chains do it better. Does Jersey Mike's do it better than Subway? Yes. Yes it does and then some. Jersey Mike's is easily in my Top 5 for places to get subs. Despite not remembering the specific sandwich I ordered, I do remember being amazed at the softness of the bread and the quality of everything smashed in that small crevice where the bread was split open. Each bite was full of flavor and everything tasted as if it were cooked fresh. It was with luck that I got another flyer in the mail. It was an offer that any money donated to the local firefighters earned you a free sandwich. I took the offer down there, threw some money in their firefighter tip jar and quickly scooped up my free sandwich. I remember being amazed at how good it was and that my first trip wasn't a fluke. If you like subs, you owe it to yourself to try Jersey Mike's (or one of the ones listed above). If you don't have one near you, I would encourage you to see what smaller sub shops are in your area and to try them out. Sometimes its a nice surprise when you try the stuff that isn't known nationwide.

And if you're going to be too cheap to hire more people then you turn off delivery & sell cold subs only. Several people walked out due to the slow service. I don't blame them, just you.
