Gyro

Delicious, simple, and quick. Gyro, fries and a fountain drink was about $10. Definitely worth a visit!

I was a little hesitant about this restaurant when I seen the building. But we went in. The woman"s bathroom door needs some work it won't shut. The restaurant could use some updating. It's an old Wendy's building. We was the only customers at 11:30 a.m.. me and my husband both ordered the gryo meal. The food was very good. Which I was surprised. It is cooked to order so it came out hot. More people came in and there only seem to be one guy working so he got busy fast.

Want to give this a 3.5, but will round up due to the good food. Food/Price- Friend and I got the gyros and a side of fries. Fries were okay, but the gyros were excellent!! Great meat, nice flavor, and a ton of it to boot. Prices were good and well worth the money. Atmosphere- Came in for a quick bite and thought the place was a bit foreboding, but after the reviews thought I'd give it a try. It looks like it used to be an old Wendy's or something of the sort, so you can picture the type of interior. A downside was there was no AC, so instead there was a giant barn fan for the restaurant, which made it difficult to find a seat, without things blowing around. Service- Service was the downfall. Gentlemen working looked like he could have cared less about being there and would have just as happily been anywhere else. If you are looking for a good, quick gyro, this is definitely a spot to check out!

The bartender was extremely friendly talkative. They had a decent playlist going at a lower volume, so it wasn't overwhelming and several TVs showing baseball and hockey. My dad was feeling nostalgic and wanted to come here and eat lunch while looking out at the river…read more I hadn't realized that they had done away with waiters/waitresses. When you first walk in, there are a few kiosks where you place your order and pay. After that, you can help yourself to the drink counter and then pick your seat. They call out your name when your items are ready and you go up and collect it from the counter. I'm kinda torn between whether I like this approach or not. I hate the nervous interactions with people but at the same time, I'd rather that someone actually have a paying job than to hand off their duties to machines. I did noticed an elderly couple that came in after us struggling with the kiosk. At some point while waiting for our food, I also heard the manager and one of the grill cooks fighting over something. Not very professional to argue loud enough for the customers to hear and be made uncomfortable. The food itself was fine. The shakes seem a bit smaller than I remember, but are still just as expensive. I ordered a Frisco Burger. I would have liked to add grilled onions to it, but that wasn't an option that I could find on the kiosk. May they don't want to offer up custom orders to make cooking the food more streamline. I always love the fries here, though.

Review Visit: October 29th, 2012…read more Chick-fil-A will Chick-fil-you-up. Living in the Central Illinois area, Chick-fil-a was only available via commercials and advertisements (or long drives). Luckily, the day came where the one in Peoria was built and opened it's doors to customers. Erin, Matt and I stopped in after a day exploring Bloomington-Normal and we were famished. It was a first for all of us and we were excited to try out the place that has rave reviews and good word-of-mouth. We luckily got to Chick-fil-a when there wasn't a long line in the drive thru or a packed lobby. Busy, yes, but not uncomfortably so. This place was swamped with people for months after it opened. We must've gotten extremely luckily with our timing. In the years since this visit, I still remember how incredible delicious the food here is. I don't remember what we all ordered but we all loved with what we got. That I do remember. The chicken sandwich was just what I needed after dragging my friend and girlfriend around Bloomington-Normal for the afternoon. I ended up coming back in 2018 with another friend who never had it and it was every bit as delicious as it was back in late-2012. I typically keep my reviews of nationwide chains short (barring some crazy story to share) due to many factors and this one is no exception. All there is to say about Chick-fil-a is that it is incredibly delicious chicken at a decent price. My only critique is that it leaves you wanting more after you finish your meal. Its that good.

Review Visit: September 14th, 2014…read more Thems some dang good biscuits. After exploring the The Nina and The Pinta boats that were anchored in Peoria, we needed some grub. I asked my dad if he had any specific place he wanted to try. He said he did not. I asked if he wanted to check out Popeye's and that's where we ended up going. It was a new eating experience for us both as Popeye's have just started to pop up in Central Illinois. I typically don't review big chains but I make the exception if they are new to the area. Popeye's is a fast food chicken slinging place. You order your food at the counter and either get it to go or dine in. We opted to dine in as we had the afternoon free. Plus, dining in is part of the experience. We both stuck with a standard combo since we didn't know what to expect. Our combos were fairly basic: chicken, fries, and sides. I opted for some coleslaw and a biscuit to accompany my main food. The place was a bit busy and we did end up waiting awhile for our food to come out. Frying chicken has to take a bit longer to cook than your usual fast food offerings. The wait was to be expected as the restaurant was new and still had that busyness to it that comes with any new place that opens. At long last, our food came out and it looked tasty and smelled delicious. It was about the halfway point through our meal that we broke the silence and said the same thing. This wasn't really worth it. Its not to say the food was awful. Its just that everything tasted so... bland? The chicken tasted like nothing despite the breading. There was a definite lack of spices in the batter or something like that. The french fries were alright, if not a bit soggy for my tastes. Again, that is just a personal preference on the fries. The coleslaw was forgettable but I feel that way about coleslaw in general. Its a side dish I like but not one I ever crave. Again, personal preference there. So, was any of this meal good? Yes. The biscuit of all things. Somehow that biscuit, despite being a bit dry as biscuits usually are, packed a ton of flavor in the puck-shaped baked goodness. I'm not a biscuit lover by any means but this place had me reconsidering that. The thing was just dripping (metaphorically) in butter-y flavor. I strongly debated getting one to go until I saw the line at the counter. We did finish the meal and sat there a little bit longer as we let the food settle. While we sat there, we discussed the cool ships we saw earlier in the afternoon and made some small talk about the lack of enthusiasm we had for our meal. We left and that was our experience. But was that my only experience with Popeye's? Nope. Going a bit off the usual path, I have been back many times with my friend Tim. He loves this place and will pick it as a lunch spot when we hang out. My experience with Popeye's has stayed pretty much the same since my first visit. Their food is just okay with the exception of two things. Their biscuits are my weakness and their new chicken sandwich, in my opinionated opinion, was awesome. I did eventually try it after the hype wore off and it was no longer a matter of life and death trying to order it. That chicken sandwich was seriously one of my favorites. The staff at the Popeye's Tim and I visit (we've visited multiple) do leave a lot to be desired. Each time we've gone, we've gotten less than the bare minimum effort from those working. It seems like none of them want to be there and doing their job is a painful process. We've never had an issue with our food but it does sully the experience when it feels like you are the biggest inconvenience in the world. The last two paragraphs don't factor in to my score but it is something to keep in mind if you are wanting to try Popeye's. I would revise the score to a 2 based on the poor customer service we receive when we go. No amount of love for their biscuits or the chicken sandwich can excuse the attitudes from the staff.

Very good burgers made in plain site on a large flat grill. Milkshakes made from real hard ice cream and some of the best chili this side of Cincinnati. Of course that's most peoples opinion. The food here is average for a SS. I've had pretty good luck with the service. Just depends on the time of night. Being they are open 24/7 and right across the river from downtown Peoria, it can get real busy between 12-3am.
