Whoo. This was a rough one. From the moment we walked in, things felt off. We told a server we'd like to dine in, and she looked genuinely puzzled, muttered something unintelligible, and vaguely pointed across the room for us to seat ourselves. There was only one other occupied table--a group of six young men--and a few people at the bar, so it wasn't busy. Our food came out fairly quickly, which was one of the few positives. My partner ordered the bison burger because he'd never tried one before. I grew up eating bison and know what a properly cooked bison burger should be like. This one was incredibly dry,far drier than it should have been. Unfortunately, our server disappeared after dropping off the food. She never returned to check whether everything was correct, ask if we needed anything, or see how the meal was. We waited and waited, but she never came back. Eventually my partner went to the bar and asked to speak with the manager. When the manager came to our table, it turned out to be our server. The same server who had ignored us while spending plenty of time chatting and flirting with the table of young men. She approached carrying the check, not asking what the issue was or how she could help. When we explained that the burger was extremely dry, she argued that it didn't look dry to her. I spoke up because I had tried it too, and it absolutely was dry. Then she claimed that bison burgers are *supposed* to be dry. If that's the case, why argue that it wasn't dry in the first place? After a back-and-forth discussion, she finally agreed to let my partner order something else. The bigger issue, though, was the service. In my 50-plus years, this was one of the most unfriendly and unprofessional server/manager interactions I've ever experienced. It takes a lot for me to complain or argue with restaurant staff, but this situation was handled poorly from start to finish. For the main course got the Bundaberg Burger with a side of French Fries. The burger was delicious and so were the fries. In conclusion, the food was fantastic no complaints when it comes to that department. But when it came to service, I will admit it was annoying having to wait a good 15-20 minutes for us to get served (place was somewhat busy so understandable) but it didn't hurt the overall experience I had at this restaurant. Stopped in before a movie for a quick lunch and was overly impressed. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. The restaraunt is smaller than what we expected but it was mid-afternoon so we were served very quickly; unique decor and chill environment. I had the bison burger and my fiancé had the rootail sandwich and we split an order of fries. We loved both sandwiches, both were cooked just as we ordered and delicious. The real winner to me though were the french fries; the ideal type that our hand-cut and perfect for dipping in vinegar if you enjoy that version! Great locally owned bar with not your average menu. They have beef burgers but also an ostrich burger, tuna steak sandwiches and juicy GRILLED (not fried) naked chicken strips. I think they also have a portobello sandwich for the veggie lovers. There are buckets of peanut shells on the tables and yes, peanut shells on the floor, so if you have allergies, beware. The atmosphere of Khaki Jack's is very good. From the front door that is on a pulley system to the buckets of in the shell peanuts at each table, you feel comfortable. I had mild wings and bosco sticks for appetizers. The wings were very good. Deep fried till crisp then dipped in a sauce that tasted very similar to Frank Red Hot. Avoid the bosco sticks. Mine were deep fried and hot on the outside but the cheese inside was still frozen. The main course was the kakudu burger with a side of their signature hand cut fries. The burger described in one word: Delicious! It is what I would call a two hand burger, meaning it is quite large. The staff doesn't skimp on the meat and you better bring your appetite. The fries are very good but nothing special that would leave me wanting more. The value of the food is outstanding. I went here the other day while visiting Peoria. I pulled out my phone to do a Yelp check-in, and I couldn't believe that this place wasn't on here. My family has been going here for years, and I think it deserves a review on Yelp. Khaki Jacks is a small Australian themed bar in a small strip mall in Peoria. If you didn't know it was there you would probably miss it. Don't worry about being on your absolute best behavior here (but still be civil). This is a very laid back place. On every table there is a beer bucket full of peanuts in the shell, and you are encouraged to throw the shells on the floor. On St. Pats day only two beers were on tap, Fosters (a staple for this place) and Guiness. There are many other beers available in a bottle. The food: Khaki Jacks serves something you'll probably be hard pressed to find most places and I highly recommend at least trying: an Ostrich burger, which is of coarse with the Australian theme is ground Ostrich. They also serve hamburgers, and grilled chicken burgers. You're going to pay a little more for a burger here, but they are a pretty good size and always worth it.Chicken strips come grilled not fried. Their fries have the skin on and are fried a dark golden brown, they also have salads on their menu. I would recommend Khaki Jacks for a laid back night out. At this point i have been to Khaki Jacks twice. And last but not least the melted cheddar cheese.If you like potato skins you need to try the Down Under. Aussie Fries- we got the (bowl) to share among the table. The fries are really good and they pack that bowl full of those delicious fries. Bugalug-Grilled Portabella Mushroom Cap onions and green peppers topped w/mozzarella cheese.This was my wife's main coarse and she ordered it without the peppers and onions. On his first bite i seen his face light up and he was shaking his head up and down (that is his way of saying "ya it's good"). I have been to Khaki Jacks on a week day at an off time when it was really slow and i have been on a saturday night when the place was jam packed. The service both times was great. Love this place. Complementary bucket of shelled salted peanuts, good beer, and some of the best burgers in the area. Always seem to be cooked to the perfect temperature.
