I like Taco John's and see it is as a slightly higher end Taco Bell alternative given that there is no Taco Bell in Colby. The burritos are tasty and filling as are the tacos, either soft or hard shell. You can't go wrong with a basic taco. They serve potato oles which are like flattened, tater tots. I like them but find then to be WAAAYYY too salty for my taste. Other than that, I enjoy the service and convenience of the drive through. The place can be slow to get food out on busy days so be patient and nice. They are doing their best. read more

Need a quick meal during a long road trip, stop here! The food was made quickly and tasted great! The kid at the register recommended the taco bravo and I'm glad I tried it! The crunchy taco inside a soft taco with refried beans is genius! The flavor was amazing and the texture was good! The tots with tacos is a funny paring but was good! TL;DR - CLOSED AT 9PM DESPITE SIGNAGE SAYING OTHERWISE- If you're looking for Mexican in this area, and you run into this problem, check out Dos des Oros down the street, they're open and delicious. THE PROBLEM: I'm on a 10hr roadtrip, and excited to eat at Taco John's. Apple Maps says it closes at 11pm. Fantastic. We pull up at 9:15pm - CLOSED. I check the sign. Says closes at 10pm. So by two different metrics, we should be fine. One of the workers explains that "corporate" feeds the closing times to Apple Maps and prints the sign (still weird that they are different), but this location always close at 9pm due to being short staffed. To either the owner of this location, or the corporate office: PLEASE DISPLAY ACCURATE HOURS. It's the fastest way to improve your customer interactions and ratings. Plus, your employees won't have to deal with irritate, hungry people weary from roadtrips who can't get their tacos. read more

This was my first time eating at a Taco John's. I've stayed in the hotel next door to this Taco John's numerous times but never ventured in due to my opinion of another taco chain. However, after a long day of driving we were looking for something quick and convenient. I had the Chicken boss burrito combo (comes with potatoes ole and a beverage). The wife had the Four cheese steak quesadilla combo (also with potatoes ole and a beverage). We both thought the potatoes ole were cooked to perfection - they were excellent. I had my burrito with both pico de gallo and roasted corn and pepper salsa - it was an excellent burrito. My wife also thoroughly enjoyed her quesadilla. The only downside to our visit was the older man working the order counter. He had zero personality and was almost totally non-communicative. He did get our order entered correctly but certainly wasn't customer service focused. Despite his lack of personality, our overall impression was good and we'll definitely be back. Had lunch here while passing through Colby Kansas. I had the combo number one (two beef crunchy tacos and a large drink with chips and cheese). The service was fast and the food was decent. This restaurant is along the lines of a Del Taco type of food. With a visit if you are passing through and want a quick bite. read more

This must be the cleanest, busiest & most efficient Taco John's I've ever been to. It is located off Highway 70 in the middle of nowhere Kansas. It is about 3 hours East of Denver so a good place to stop for lunch before arriving in Denver. The employees were very polite & courteous. They even had one employee that cleaned tables and took your garbage. The restaurant was busy but the employee happily took our order and it was ready with a short wait. Highly recommend this Taco John's. Wish they had one closer to home! read more

Food is always great here. We always stop here on the way to Denver, once a year. Same person that took our order last year did this year. What wonderful place to stop for lunch after riding in a car for 6 hours!. Place is always clean, bathrooms too. Stopped here on our way through Kansas. WOW!! If I could give this place 10 stars I would. The staff was friendly the food came fast and oh boy was it awesome! I got the Grilled Chicken burrito and my son got the Steak & Shrimp burrito, both were fantastic. The donut bites were awesome as well. Good. Actually pretty good. It is like Taco Bell but with more flavor. The street tacos were very tasty. The lime sauce on the street tacos was superb. The refried beans were flavorful. It is what it is. We always hit Colby around lunchtime, and this is the best fast food option in town. Believe me, as frequent travelers between NE Kansas and Colorado Springs/Denver/Boulder, we've tried them all. TJ's product is consistent. We have one in our hometown. Well it's a friday night at 9:10pm. My ol' lady wanted Taco John for when she got off at 10pm. Google said that the store didn't close til 10pm. So I went over sat in the drive thru for about 15-20 min. waiting for someone to take my order. So I drove around to a window to see maybe their machine wasn't working. I got to the window and was told that they closed at 9pm even though their hours on the drive thru window even stated that they didn't close til 10pm. There wasn't any type of notification that they were closing early or anything. I had at least 3 cars behind me and 1 in front of me. Taco John's is good in the scheme of regional fast food chains. I only saw them in Kansas so I do not know how wide spread they are, but I would stop again in a Taco John's. I ordered a stuffed grilled taco ($2.89) and a soft taco ($1.79). The stuffed grilled taco was a crispy taco shell with beef, cheese, nacho cheese, hot sauce, and tortilla chips (I skipped sour cream). Then, it is wrapped and grilled in a flour tortilla. It was huge and decent. I really could have just had that as my meal. The soft taco was good and especially redeeming after eating garbage tacos at Jack in the Box the previous day. My brother got the kids meal, which was dirt cheap. He got the chicken bites, potato ole's, graham crackers, and a drink. It was a huge kids meal. I agree with others that the potato ole's have way too much salt, but he enjoyed his meal. This Taco John's is also convenient to quite a few hotels in Colby. All in all, a great chain for a stop on a cross-country drive. read more

Growing up in Colby, I ate Taco Johns...alot. There is a reason for this. It's a well managed, well maintained "mexican" inspired fast food chain. This place is great for fast food. I don't eat a whole lot of fast food, but it's much better than Taco Bell or McDonalds. The Potatoe Ole's are awesome, and yes they are salty, but isn't that part of fast food? I typically order the Super nacho with chicken, keep the beans. It's like a Nacho Bell Grande from Taco bell. I love dessert and they offer me a choice with the sweet cream churro, with no cinnamon. Which is awesome since I'm allergic to cinnamon and I never get to eat churros. read more

Got to be honest. This place is subpar even by fast food Mexican standards. You would be better served with a Taco Bell or Dell taco. All of the food here is incredibly bland and they seem to make their living off of tater tot's loaded with things like cheese and sour cream and other Mexican style toppings. The refried beans are straight out of a can with no flavor whatsoever and everything is very bland. I love TJ's in Colby! I also love their breakfast! they're breakfast is to die for! I get the B1 with Sausage and I tell you what it does so well on starting your day out on the right foot. I rarely Ever get a messed up order and when I do they fix the issues quickly. I can only comment on the chicken and breakfast food here because that's all I get. We always love Taco John's when we're out west: quick road food, yummy condiment bar, potato olés: bring it on! This particular one is one of the nicest. First, they know how to keep up with a crowd. Even when the parking lot's jammed, there's no line and orders are accurate. Second, the dining room is clean and pleasant, thanks to the dining room hostess, Kathey, who always has a kind word for everyone and keeps the trays and tabletops and condiment bar immaculate. This may not be authentic, but it sure as heck is good when you're trying to put some miles on your car. read more

Eating fast food dinner on business travel - I must be lost. Very slim options in Colby. Nice clean place with descent service. Seemed confused by my simple order and I think I was overcharged, but I don't feel like gambling $20 or $30 at a real restaurant. Never mind on the 'fast' part, service is sloooow. Everybody else in here is at least 80, hope they have time to get their food. Rating is dropping... Order finally arrives with about 50% accuracy. Doing deep breathing. Moron in Clown Posse t-shirt walks in... Marginal uptick for avg life expectancy, but avg IQ takes a big hit. Oh yeah, the food.
