So I was a bit reticent to try this place, but wow was I surprised. This place is terrific. They first came out with chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and warm. Salsa was pico de gallo and very good. For the entrees we had the Taquitos Mexicanos and Tacos de Carnitas. Both are superb. Rice and beans are good. And the main dishes were tasty. The carnitas was as good as I've ever had at any Mexican place. This place is as good if not better than a lot of places in So Cal. Which makes me confused why the Yelp rating is as low as it is. What, do people in Western New York think Taco Bell is Mexican food? I'm telling you people here don't realize how good they have it with a place like this. It's truly authentic. The food is great, service is great, and prices are reasonable. People of Allegany need to come out and support places like this. If I lived there I would be a weekly regular.

The other husband had the garbage plate number five and he said it was great evidenced by a completely empty plate! Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable & kind. She kept tabs on us without being intrusive. The prices were reasonable & the menu is quite varied with specials listed clearly on a chalkboard. Came on a Thursday evening for dinner at the recommendation of the hotel. Upon arriving, it is immediately recognized to be a dive bar. I was all for it. Two of us were quickly seated at a booth. We ordered a couple beers, jack daniels bbq wings, and the Thursday surf and turf dinner meal. The dinner meal came with a soup, salad, or veggie and a potato (for which they had almost 10 options from baked, mashed, and various fries). The wings were a great size but lacked in enough sauce that they almost tasted plain. The steak was ordered medium and came out rare (we were fine with it too). The steak was completely unseasoned, just cooked meat. We ordered Cajun seasoning on the shrimp and pretty sure they, too, were plain with no flavor. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good. Service was just OK as well.

Cons: restaurant was hot and made it almost unbearable to eat. The food was ok but not great. The pizza with extra cheese had paper under the pizza so it got soaked into the melted cheese. Finding any GF options when visiting small towns can be a challenge so I'm really thankful to have found Finnerty's! We ordered: - Jalapeño Poppers (for my gluten-consuming husband) - Stuffed Banana Peppers (Gluten Free) - Chicken Wings ordered well done with hot sauce (Gluten Free) - Smash Burger on Gluten Free Sesame Bun & Chips - Hamburg Carrot Cake Brown Ale (for my Gluten-consuming husband) There were only 3 Jalapeño Popper left so our server didn't charge us for them. They were your run-of-the-mill frozen poppers; nothing special. The Stuffed Banana Peppers were a special for the day and they were pretty delicious. They were cheesy, stuffed with sausage and topped with a delicious tomato red sauce. The Chicken Wings were well done, as we requested but were average which was a surprise considering all of the claims to be award winning. The Gluten Free Sesame Bun was one of the best GF buns I've had but the burger patties were average. The meat didn't seem like it was seasoned but the cheese and grilled onions helped add some flavor. Not worth $15.95, in my opinion especially because you have to pay $1.50 each for any additional toppings and it only comes with generic potato chips. The Hamburg Carrot Cake Brown Ale was listed on the draft beer list but was served in a can. Our server was attentive and had a kind/sweet personality. Here's a few highlights about the space: - Pool Table - Golden Tee Golf Video Game - Hockey Foosball Table Game - Old Arcade Video Game - 8+ TVs; I believe they're usually tuned into sports. - Music was really loud; it was somewhat difficult to hear our server. Overall, I would come here again when visiting Ellicottville and try other menu items - like the Gluten Free Pizza and whatever their daily special happens to be.
