Took a drive for lunch to get some A/C and try a (new to us) Mexican place. Very clean comfortable dining room, bar, and bathrooms. Only had lunch menu options. Wife went with the Chimichanga and I had enchiladas withe the red sauce both chose steak for the meat. Food was very good. Prices were reasonable. Service was not bad but could have been better. If you're a hot sauce junkie like me , this is not the place for you. Got 2 blue cheese size containers of a sauce that barely had any heat. If you're in the area give it a shot. We won't be making the drive back, just for lunch, when we prefer so many others right around the corner. read more

The bartender/server was pleasant and attentive. The food was fair, but they were out of what I wanted. (Chile Relleno). I got fajitas (so so) the salsa was not great, pretty sure not fresh. Are you kidding me?! This place is as good as it gets. You need to drive, fly, hike, hitchhike to Dunkirk to check out this delightful taqueria. The food was off the wall. My only regret is that they were out of tamales and I so wish I could try some of it with the mole sauce. I ordered the nachos, a burrito and the birria tacos. Everything was ON POINT. The nachos were perfect with the chorizo sausage, jalapenos over harder tortillas that did not get too soggy over time. The birria tacos were BOMB! Loved being able to dip these babies. What a treat! The burrito, I only tried a bite off, but the steak burrito was so amazing that writing about it now is giving me hunger pains. I grabbed some takeout for our dinner last week and while I was waiting to pickup enjoyed a really good margarita. I also recommend their rice bowls! We come down from Buffalo to eat at Taqueria Mexicana every other weekend. The place is clean and bright, the people friendly, and the food is out of this world. Seriously. Today we had the amazing spicy pork burrito and the even more amazing tacos birria. The tacos birria is made with meltingly tender brisket, cheese, and a slightly spicy sauce - I don't know how it's prepared but it's very juicy and just ridiculously delicious. While headed home to Buffalo from Chautauqua, we decided to stop for lunch and checked Yelp for any Mexican restaurants along our route. I was happily surprised to find a five-star option in Dunkirk--and even happier to find that the rave reviews were totally correct! The food is more authentically Mexican (not Tex-Mex or Mexican-American) than most of our options in this area. The friendly woman at the counter was happy to make me a veggie burrito, even though it wasn't listed on the menu (and it was delicious!). My husband had a chicken burrito and was practically licking his plate clean at the end. TIP: This is a tiny shop--just one or two tables in front of the counter. The signage is also a little hard to miss from the car. Keep your eyes open or it's easy to drive right past it! read more

I'll echo everyone else in vouching it's definitely some of the best, most authentic, Mexican food in WNY. We got steak enchiladas In Verde sauce with rice and beans, chips that came with a little cup of green salsa/sauce (this was different than the Verde sauce that came with the enchiladas), birria tacos, and a beef empanada. They have an awesome selection of different tropical pops to pick from along with typical pop and water (they had Goya and some other tropical brands). We got one of our favorites ,Guava Goya. The beef empanada were the only disappointing part of the meal, it was dry and lacked that juicy flavor of a really good empanada. On the reverse the birria tacos were so juicy and flavorful and the juice to dip them in was wonderful, it was all heavenly. I definitely think their tacos are the standout. The cups of the red and green sauces that come with the tacos/ nacho chips are pretty small though so my advice is to ask if you can pay for a couple extra cups of the red and green sauces so you can add as much extra flavor to your food as you want. The steak enchiladas were very tasty too but I think next time I got my eye on the spicy pork tacos. The beans were very very flavorful and rice was good but pretty standard. I ordered take out for 4 people and was VERY specific about 2 of the orders needing to be vegan. I specifically said 2 orders without cheese, sour cream or meat. They said it was no problem. This place is on point! Simple inside with a couple of booths and a cash wrap. Stopped by when we were in town for boat races. We ordered the spicy pork, ribs and some empanadas. This is no Tex-Mex commercial stuff usually found around. Azteca up the road is good Tex-Mex but it's still Tex-Mex (flour and hard tortillas etc). This is the real deal fresh authentic Mexican (soft corn tortillas) in Dunkirk like you'd get from the West Coast. $2.50 tacos come with meat, pico, onions, cilantro (like a real taco) and either red or green sauce and a lime slice. Not your Taco Bell or Mighty Taco crap! I ordered and the friendly guy who took my order told me it would be about 6 minutes and it was as they were freshly made. Only downside is the building is really cramped so get your order to go and do it often to help these guys expand. Trust me you won't regret it! read more
