We are visiting Erie, and tonight's dinner is beyond disappointing. I ordered the three fish taco and what it came to the table was not even close to the menu description. The waitress was kinda rude, who said "the menu doesn't always match the dish." Earlier, when I asked her what kind of meat was in Birria taco, she said "beef and pork". I've never had Birria that's a mix of beef and pork. I don't think she knows what she was saying. The manager eventually came out to apologize, which was nice. But as we were paying, the waitress came out and said "sorry about your experience but it's not my fault", which was really unnecessary. We have tried their Carne Asada, Chimichanga, Burrito, Enchilada and Fajita, and literally everything is delicious. Our new favorite has to be the pork fajita, as the pork not only was tender, but was also cooked and seasoned well. Another highlight would be the Mar y Tierra. You get skirt steak as well as bacon-wrapped shrimp, served with rice, pico de gallo, grilled onion, beans and avocado. The food was fresh and seasoned well. There are plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks options available. Love their margarita. It came in a huge glass, and you could taste how strong it was. I hate to have to downgrade Torero's but it's not quite the same as it had been. The last two times I've been there the food hasn't been as good. I typically get The Macho Burrito and it wasn't as excellent as it had been in the past. I don't know if they've made a change in their cook, in specific ingredients or what the deal is. Never heard of this chain and assumed it was a local place, didn't realize it was a chain until doing research after! Food is far from authentic Mexican but pretty good regardless. The menu is huge and has a lot of interesting vegetarian options! I got the Burrito en el Huerto. I thought it was odd that they didn't close the ends of the tortilla, but, since it was smothered and not meant to be picked up and eaten with the hands, this didn't have much of an effect on the eating experience. The sauce they smothered it in was really good with just a hint of heat, and the filling tasted nice and fresh. I had never tried cactus before and I loved it in this! Because this entree only comes with chopped lettuce on the side (no rice and beans), it's a little bare-bones, but great if you want something lighter. My dad, who I was with, ordered the Pollo Fundido, which was topped with melted slices of American cheese. Never seen American cheese in "Mexican" food before and thought this was very odd but he swears it was good so I'll take his word for it. Our food out super fast after we ordered. Being a San Diego transplant in Erie, I know that my hunger for authentic mexican food will be hard to satisfy here. Mexican restaurants are far in between, compared to the mexi restaurant on every corner, where I'm from. But Torero's is definitely a competitor. I came at peak rush hour for dinner, and the service was still great. We got our food amazingly fast. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere of the entire place, the family-style feel, really made me feel like I was home, deep in the culture of mexi-cali. The food was also the best mexican I have had yet, since moving to Erie. I had the combo plate; chimichanga and enchilada. For the chimichanga, I chose ground beef. And for the enchilada, I chose chicken. (those were the 2 choices of meat to choose from) The chimichanga was crispy and flaky on the outside, and also came with a small side of guac and sour cream! The enchilada was covered in a really yummy sauce, and it all went well with the refried beans and rice. And...who doesn't love free chips and salsa while you're browsing the menu?!
