This use to be our favorite Mexican restaurant to eat at. Just went again tonight and it was the worst Mexican food we ate at. Menu has completely changed and the recipes must have changed also. The carnitas meat was full of fat. The guacamole was runny green goo The flour tortillas were crispy on the edges like they were old. The chips were stale. It took 10 minutes to try to order because the cashiers English was not legible. Left with horrible stomach cramps, couldn't wait to get home. Good news is soda refills are still free. read more

Still the best! The staff here are so positive and fun. They sing when they work. It's very service oriented; makes you feel welcome like familia. I love their posole, birria, enchiladas, and menudo. Wait... Taco Exxpress has been here for how long and I am finally trying a piece of Heaven? What's wrong with me? Located in Rocklin on Granite & Rocklin Drive, Taco Express stands out with its brought colors. The send most notable thing was the drive-thru. As you pull in and go through the parking lot, closest to the corner is the beginning of the drive-thru. There is a menu with many many options. Since it was the weekend, menudo and pozole are available. I couldn't tell if there was seating inside but there is definitely seating outside! Jenita was craving a taco salad with carnitas. I didn't see it on the menu (it could've been there, I was rushing through and my eyes may not have caught it). They put refried beans in it as she wanted, along with sour cream, guacamole, and melted cheese in a crispy flour tortilla. She also got a jamica augua fresca. I decided to go with the birria ramen. Lovely consummé, filled with ramen noodles and lots of beef. You can't rush delicious food, so there was a little bit of a wait. The man at the window was polite and worked fast! Great customer service! When we got back to Jenita's, I set her up with her taco salad. I sat next to her and we ate out of our Styrofoam containers. By the time we got back, set her up, and took my pictures, about 20 minutes had gone by since we got our food and my birria ramen was still too hot too eat, but that was a great thing! While this used to be a great place to eat, they've recently changed their menu and the new menu is terrible. Not just price increases, but the new items are loaded with filler. You'll spend most of your time playing a futile game of hide and seek, searching for that rare piece of meat. Ive been a patron of this location for about 3 years. Ive only had one other issue besides the one that I am writing about today, and that was about a year ago I ordered grilled chicken on my food and it was raw. But THIS..this experience is the thing that will prevent me from ever visiting this location or potentially any location again. I ordered Loaded fries with grilled chicken and when I turned the light on and saw my food, the fries were literally grey! It was dreadful. Not only did the few bites I ate cause me to throw up continuously that night, I was sick for days afterwards and had to go to the ER to get IV fluids and anti nausea meds. Experiences like this are why I have a strict "no take-out in the dark" policy because imagine if I kept eating before turning the light on . I literally could have died. I was headed back to my hotel after going to a concert. I noticed that this place was right across the street from the hotel I was staying at. It was open until midnight, which was perfect! I went through the drive-thru. There was no line since it was pretty late. They have a big selection of combos and specials, all the staples of Mexican fast food. I ordered a combo plate with two chicken crunchy tacos, a California burrito, one horchata, and one fountain drink. The total was around $32, I think? I thought that was a lot for four items. We went back to our hotel room to eat, and I have to say, or was A LOT of food for that price. They filled up my entire container with beans and rice. The tacos were standard sized tacos with lettuce on top. My cousin's burrito was huge! We DEVOURED our meals. Everything was delicious. This is Mexican comfort food at its finest. We've tried this place twice now and the reviews always leave me feeling a bit anxious about our order since they've forgotten items with others in the past. I make sure to check everything in our bag before driving off. Both times, we've gotten carne asada and I'd rate them a 7/10 --good and leaves us feeling satiated, but it does seem a tad heavy on the salt and the meat itself is dry like it was over cooked some. ***Make sure you ask for sauce*** Our most recent visit, we almost drove off but luckily not before realizing there was no sauce in the bag. I feel like sauce with carne asada should be a standard, otherwise it'd just be a super dry dish. They did give us some after asking, but I think that's an oversight on their part putting the responsibility of remembering on the customer. Then again, maybe it was just the specific cashier we had.
