We decided to give this place a try, and right away we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The ambience was warm, inviting, and very welcoming, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the enchilada platter with shredded chicken. The enchilada was definitely the highlight for me--it was very tasty! The rice was okay, and the beans were a little plain and could have used a little more flavor. We were given several different salsas and condiments to try. I would have loved to see a mild salsa option, but the pico de gallo was really good! My husband ordered the taco platter. He enjoyed the tacos but felt they could have been a little fuller, as there wasn't a lot of meat inside. The way the taco shells were prepared also made it difficult to open them up and add extra toppings while eating. It would be nice to be able to add more lettuce, salsa, or even some of the rice and beans as you go. Overall, we're glad we stopped in and gave it a try! There were definitely some things we enjoyed, especially the atmosphere, friendly staff, and the enchilada. With a few little changes to the tacos and adding a bit more flavor to the sides, I think this place could really shine. For the food, I'd give it 3 stars, but we enjoyed our visit and were happy we tried something new! So I changed my rating from 3 to 4 because my daughter who went with us and son-in-law they really enjoyed their meal very much so I will give them four stars for them enjoying the experience a little more than we did. read more

IMO best breakfast burrito in town. Went inside this time. Really friendly service as usual, and I was able to try out their chips and some more salsas. Chips were slightly better than what I've had at the chips and salsa bars around here, and the salsa is much better than average. Good flavor and the spice levels are more accurate (spicy actually has a good kick). The mix breakfast burrito (bacon, chorizo, eggs, cheese, potato) is huge and has a decent ratio of meat/eggs/potato. The cheese was melty which is always good. Located in Rocklin on Granite & Rocklin Drive, Taco Express stands out with its brought colors. The send most notable thing was the drive-thru. As you pull in and go through the parking lot, closest to the corner is the beginning of the drive-thru. There is a menu with many many options. Since it was the weekend, menudo and pozole are available. I couldn't tell if there was seating inside but there is definitely seating outside! Jenita was craving a taco salad with carnitas. I didn't see it on the menu (it could've been there, I was rushing through and my eyes may not have caught it). They put refried beans in it as she wanted, along with sour cream, guacamole, and melted cheese in a crispy flour tortilla. She also got a jamica augua fresca. I decided to go with the birria ramen. Lovely consummé, filled with ramen noodles and lots of beef. You can't rush delicious food, so there was a little bit of a wait. The man at the window was polite and worked fast! Great customer service! When we got back to Jenita's, I set her up with her taco salad. I sat next to her and we ate out of our Styrofoam containers. By the time we got back, set her up, and took my pictures, about 20 minutes had gone by since we got our food and my birria ramen was still too hot too eat, but that was a great thing! This use to be our favorite Mexican restaurant to eat at. Just went again tonight and it was the worst Mexican food we ate at. Menu has completely changed and the recipes must have changed also. The carnitas meat was full of fat. The guacamole was runny green goo The flour tortillas were crispy on the edges like they were old. The chips were stale. Ive only had one other issue besides the one that I am writing about today, and that was about a year ago I ordered grilled chicken on my food and it was raw. But THIS..this experience is the thing that will prevent me from ever visiting this location or potentially any location again. I ordered Loaded fries with grilled chicken and when I turned the light on and saw my food, the fries were literally grey! It was dreadful. Not only did the few bites I ate cause me to throw up continuously that night, I was sick for days afterwards and had to go to the ER to get IV fluids and anti nausea meds. Experiences like this are why I have a strict "no take-out in the dark" policy because imagine if I kept eating before turning the light on . I literally could have died. When I'm craving carne asada fries, I'm talking the ones from Taco Exxpress specifically! I'm pretty picky when it comes to my *ideal* carne asada fries taste, and Taco Exxpress checks all the boxes. I absolutely love that they use the skinny French fries! I also appreciate how they spread the guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo (if you request it) evenly throughout the box instead of in zones for you to spread yourself. The taste of the carne asada itself is also flavorful and just the right amount of salt. My boyfriend usually orders anything with carnitas or al pastor. We've tried this place twice now and the reviews always leave me feeling a bit anxious about our order since they've forgotten items with others in the past. I make sure to check everything in our bag before driving off. Both times, we've gotten carne asada and I'd rate them a 7/10 --good and leaves us feeling satiated, but it does seem a tad heavy on the salt and the meat itself is dry like it was over cooked some. ***Make sure you ask for sauce*** Our most recent visit, we almost drove off but luckily not before realizing there was no sauce in the bag.
