It is always a great spot to invite colleagues, family, and friends. They offer a solid selection of burgers and craft beer, and the location is very convenient in downtown Modesto, within walking distance of the Brenden Theatre and nearby venues like the Gallo Center. The customer service is phenomenal and they truly make you feel at home. If you need pickup, just give them a call and they will get you situated right away. Definitely recommend it.

Sadly disappointed…read more My friends and I stopped by Commonwealth on a Saturday afternoon for a late brunch. It was a beautiful day so it was busy for both indoor and outdoor seating. Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.

This place was a hole in the wall, and honestly blew me away after we covered different things. I liked how nuanced the environment was upon entry of the restaurant -- it made me and my partner feel at ease and at home. The table and the chairs looked rather new, with the chairs already pushed out for any and all incoming parties. The hospitality displayed utmost professionalism at the best of the servers at this restaurant were very attentive to not just our requests, but also, every person that was dining in. We asked for the three entree plate, and to my surprise, the ingredients were quite less than what I expected. For $13 it did not come as a surprise though -- with the rice and drink it was actually a budget friendly meal for each person. The ambience seemed really brand new, and the brand was on point with everything they had inside of the restaurant. I'll definitely be back to try more forsure, the next time that I'm around the Modesto area.

OMG.....when I first saw the outside, I assumed I was going to disappointed but I WAS SO WRONG…read more When I stepped in I thought I was walking into a Chinese restaurant in SF or San Jose (large asian community). The ambiance was to perfection. The photos of the duck and bbq hanging in Yelp photo don't do justice. When you see it in person AND smelling the food inside multiplies the experience 10x. The server communicating with customer in Chinese and makes it perfect. I ordered 3 item combo (soy sauce, chicken, spareribs, and honey sauce, and roasted duck). At first I thought they were frugal with portion but I understand I chose the most expensive bbq on their menu (roast duck +$1.00). The extra cost for the roast duck was worth. I can genuinely say, I'm coming back here for my future lunches and dinner. My family can go some other Chinese restaurant, but I'm coming back here. Quality of service:A+++ Quality of food: EXCEPTIONAL Price: $-$$ (won't burn a hole in your wallet) Note: don't let the outside entrance deceive you. Go in and check this place out for yourself.

Everyone is seated with their own individual hot pot plate to build their own individual hot pot. (Don't worry it does not burn). You choose your basic soup broth, choose the meat you would like, and then start grabbing things off the conveyor belts! It not only is a fun concept, you can get quite creative with how you build your hot pot and choose just the things to your liking. I was amazed that they had very authentic Chinese ingredients to choose from - wood ear, enoki mushrooms, bok choy, different kinds of noodles, fish balls, Napa cabbage, octopus, and lots of different varieties of selfish, plus much much more! I chose the traditional broth and they even had Chinese red dates in it plus wolfberries (sometimes known as Goji berries) in the broth just like what I grew up with The service was just ok, since it was our first time there we had to ask a lady to show us what we were supposed to do. She was helpful, but the servers don't come around very often. That said, the plates and dishes clutter up really fast and they don't come around very often to clear the dishes, for which I would have taken a star off. But my experience there with conveyor belt hot pot was so nice that I'm leaving it at five stars. What I liked best besides the authentic ingredients, is that you can become quite creative to build your own hot pot to your own liking.

The first time we came, it was just after this reel went semi-viral so there were a bunch of people lined up. Upon entering, the staff immediately let us know they were having issues with the kitchen and that they had no idea when it would be back up. We decided to leave and return another time. The second time, I made an online pre-order. I decided to get the meal deal for 4 (and a separate order of the blueberry biscuit fried chicken sandwich) for the most variety. This deal includes: - Chicken Option: 8 pc tenders, 16 pc wings, or 16 pc nuggets. I went with the 16 pc wings. They were heavily battered, and the wings were cooked through and still juicy. I wasn't too wowed by them though. - 2 Sides: I went with the honey mustard pasta salad and chipotle potato salad. The pasta salad was soggier than expected, but flavors of both were pretty good. Chipotle potato had a nice kick. - Loaded Wedges: This was literally a potato quartered into 4 wedges. Tastewise, I really liked the seasoning they used on the potato though. I didn't care for the loaded part (cheese, bacon bits, green onion). - Choice of 5 sauces: Personally, the best part of the meal. Their sauces are on point. I went with the strawberry heat, pineapple pepper, XXX, fuego, honey mustard (accident; I wished I had gotten the hot honey blueberry bbq instead). - 4 Can Drinks: Cool I guess, but wished the deal was focused on the food options. The separate blueberry biscuit with chicken was also only just OK. The biscuit wasn't fluffy or buttery and the blueberries were there visually only (barely any blueberry taste). The chicken was fine and not dry at least! The wait the second time around also wasn't bad. I scheduled a 12:15PM order, and I think I got my food about 15-20 min later. Overall, it was a good one-time try!

I ordered the 2-meat combo ($25) with brisket and ribs, choosing collard greens and baked beans for my sides. My wife ordered the tri-tip sandwich with yams and baked beans. They were cool enough to sell me a 1-meat plate instead of forcing the combo, which saved me a few bucks--and I appreciated that. There's a $1 credit card fee, which didn't bother me at all. My wife loved her meal and said it was a lot of food and everything tasted great. My brisket had a nice bark and a legit smoke ring. The ribs were tender and fell right off the bone. The baked beans were solid, but the collard greens really stood out--some of the best I've had at a restaurant. Prices are average for BBQ, portions are generous, and I had enough left over for dinner later. You can tell this is real BBQ--they've got a huge BBQ pit smoking meats, and it shows in the flavor. The BBQ sauce was very good. The two guys working inside were friendly, answered all my questions, and made ordering easy. Highly recommend. I'll definitely be back.

Wow is all I can start with. From the moment another held the door for us, to the friendly greeting and smile of the young lady who waited on us at the counter to the decor and design inside and out, we immediately loved it. We found what we needed on the simple menu, accommodations from the git go, to even having a knife to cut our burgers in have (we rarely eat the whole thing right away). SOLID experience all around. Two burgers, sweet potato fries, fried zucchini and two ice teas was our meal. The burgers were tasty, the sides great, the staff on point start to finish, Ashley was our server and did an OUTSTANDING job all the way. We even had another customer hold the door on the way out. When I went to take a picture as we left, another fellow stopped so as not to walk into my shot. Wow again. If you love burgers, and are nearby, you need to try these folks' fare. We were a group of 15 and he expected us to make do with two menus!!! Good grief! He did print us out more once I pointed out how awkward it would be to share so few menus!
