So it was just the two of us, 4 PM on a Saturday, and we decided to check out Taco Bueno.
First off, the place is spotless. Like, "I-wish-my-house-was-this-clean" spotless. And the staff? Friendlier than your overly-chatty aunt at Thanksgiving.
Our order:
* A Wholotta Flavor Platter, with a chicken chilada and beef muchaco, crunchy taco, beans, rice, guac, queso and sour cream
* #1 Beef Muchaco, crispy beef taco, and bean burrito
* Street tacos, one of each kind
At first glance, you might think this is a Del Taco (West Coast) impersonation. But after the first bite, it's clear Taco Bueno is not about that life.
The meat tasted like it had a restraining order against spices. Seriously, I've had more flavorful conversations with my dog. Skip the muchaco unless you're into culinary mysteries. The queso, chips, and guac, however, were the real MVPs. If they sold those in bulk, I'd be their biggest fan.
Now, let's talk about the street tacos. I took a bite and all I could taste was cleaner. Like, bathroom cleaner or something along those lines. I actually spit it out. My husband thought I was being dramatic, so he tried it too. One bite later, he was spitting it out with the same complaint. Those tacos were so bad they ruined our appetite.
The hard shell taco did come with a generous amount of toppings. Like, "they-didn't-get-the-memo-on-portions" generous. At least they got something right.
Overall, good prices for the amount of food. But if you're looking for flavor, you might want to bring your own seasoning and a tongue scraper. read more
