Okay, we are staying at this resort property where you either cook in your suite or are hostage to whatever choices are on the property. Not too easy to get off and around the actual community - so we were pleasantly surprised to find a good, affordable and by gosh seemingly authentic taco joint on the grounds. They don't double layer the corn tortillas like we are used to back in N Cali where we typically get our local tacos at home - but otherwise for $1 to $1.50 each, with table service and a nice assortment of salsas - hard to complain ! Glad they were "on the island". We can't do another seaside Mexican buffet (although the Thursday night one w entertainment was damn tasty too). Go and enjoy !! read more

The night we arrived at the Grand Mayan, we just wanted to have dinner somewhere quick and casual. Tacos and ice cold beer sounded like the perfect dinner after our travels to Mexico. Wait...2 for 1 beer? Even better!! They brought out an impressive assortment of salsas with chips and I also ordered guacamole for us to snack on. Of all of the different tacos I tasted (pollo, carne asada, al pastor), all were delicious. There are other Mexican dishes on the menu but I went for the tacos. **Warning** - corn chips and corn tortillas are NOT gluten free! My daughter is highly allergic to wheat so she ended up ordering a plate of the al pastor meat with grilled onions...hold the tortillas. The pricing was the most affordable of all of the restaurants that are part of the Vidanta restaurants. Great value for the price! To get to Tacos Break, we had to take three shuttles to the main gate. It seems crazy...three shuttles...but it was a quick process. Once at the gate, we crossed the street and were at Tacos Break. All seating is outdoors and the backdrop is a golf course. It is open Monday - Saturday 1pm to 11pm. 5 star service and food but had to take one star off since they did not have gluten free corn chips or tortillas for people like my daughter who have wheat allergies. read more

Best spot on the resort. Cheap and tasty. Best of all its real Mexican food in Mexico. We went there twice in 4 days for dinner and both times our server Edgar was great and super attentive even w a full house. He remembered us from the first time and made great recommendations. Taco Break is a great place to have some 'al pastor ' tacos while you take in the beautiful views of the golf course, wild birds, and coconut palms, in their outdoor seating. We ordered guacamole, quesos fundido with chorizo ( so flavorful) and 10 al pastor tacos ( at $15 pesos per taco, it's a steal) for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. This place is affiliated with Vidanta, so you can even put the bill on your room. Also, the 2 for 1 deal on cervazas was a nice bonus. Unfortunately, they are closed on Sundays and open at 1:00pm M-Sat...earlier would have been much more convenient. But, the great deal on the tacos and cervazas was worth the visit. read more

Absolutely the best place to grab some lunch at the Grande Luxxe. Here, tacos go for about $1.50 CAN. Super cheap! They have tacos, quesadillas, and all kinds of other Mexican foods. You can also customize your orders and add lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, or other spices/vegetables onto your order. They also have desserts like churros. The view from here is spectacular, and you can see the vivid jungle below. It is located in La Plaza, where you can also grab groceries or other needs. read more

The reviews were spot on! Easy to get to. Nice calming view of the golf course. Even though it is right off the main busy road, you don't notice it. Tacos wise, I'm in love with the Tacos Al Pastor. Pork thinly sliced off off a spit. Cilantro, lettuce, and the best part, pineapple. From now on when I make street style tacos at home, I'm adding grilled pineapple. Perfect! And for 15 pesos = 89 cents (August 21, 2015: $1US = 16.9 pesos), it was absolutely worth it and more. I went back on a second day for more, and also tried the asada and chorizo taco. Nothing special. They were decent, but didn't come with any cilantro or lettuce. Just the meat. I only gave them 4 stars because the first day I went there, I enjoyed my meal very much. Thus, I tipped the usual American 20%. The second trip,I got a different waiter. He was nice. His co-worker must have told him I tipped well. Because when I was signing the credit card slip, he was standing right next to me waiting while I filled out the tip. I still tipped 20% according to the good service and great food. But I had to dock a star on Yelp to be fair. I think they took me for a high roller. But in actuality, the Tacos were so cheap, and the exchange rate was so AWESOME, it was just me being fair. Not the best tacos in my opinion. The al pastor was dry and bland. The bean dip salsa was fantastic as was the green salsa. The rest were just okay. My biggest complaint was that we waited almost two hours with two hungry toddlers for our food and all we ordered were tacos and quesadillas. We were sitting right in front of the kitchen. Came here on our first night at Vidanta after reading all the great reviews. The food is definitely good and the service was good too. We went late for dinner after checking in on a Friday night and we waited about 15 minutes for a table for 4. I had the alambres de pastor, and it was a huge portion enough to share. Daughters and husband had tacos de pastor and a quesadilla de rajas. All the food was really good and reasonably priced compared to other restaurants in the resort. When it comes to drinks best to stick with a good old cerveza, I ordered a paloma and it was very sour that I ended up pouring some of my daughters 7up in it. But other than that I too recommend that you hit this taco spot up if you're visiting any of the vidanta resorts. read more

I have mixed opinions after visiting twice. Our first time on Friday was quite good during a busy 3PM or so and the 9 or so tables they have. The Al Pastor pork is to die for and the carne asada was moist and flavorful. And most of the tacos are about $1.50 USD. They do stick you on the drinks (that aren't very cold) a bit. Beer is 60P (just under $4 USD) and the margaritas are 137P (almost $8), and are small, but fairly loaded with booze. Even an 11oz water runs some $2. But after 2 drinks, we were done with lunch for about $25. But Sunday was another story. Yelp says it's closed, and maybe that's wishful thinking. With just one other patron and the end of his meal, it took well over 5 minutes to finally flag one of about 6 employees standing around. And one was our server from Friday! So we get our salsa and ask for plates, and they never arrived. We get their version of fajitas and they completely forget about the tortillas they offered. And no apologies after we flagged service AGAIN at 5 minutes +. Keep in mind, we were still the only "active" customers. And the excellent carne asada from 2 days before was smaller and dry. A crowd finally starts to form, and we bail leaving a small tip. It boggles the mind that there was apparently no management around to supervise this mess! I guess that's what you get on Sunday's, as the typical crossing of the heart greetings were mostly absent, too. read more

Holy el pastor Batman! Best tacos I've had in a while. Great price, great food, fast service and fresh ingredients. The el pastor is slowly roasted on a gyro spit with a pineapple on the top so the juices will roast into the meat. Served on corn or flour tortillas (be a purist, go with the corn) with optional cilantro, onions and pineapple - take the hint and add them all! The guacamole is the best on the resort and the queso fundito con chorizo is excellent! I ordered chorizo tacos and carne asada tacos as well but the pale in comparison to the el pastor. The reviews are spot on. From the time we left our room at the grand Mayan to get to this place via three golf cart rides to get to the front gate and a 2 minute walk we were there in about 10 minutes. The taco pastor is amazingly good and hard to fill up on. We had quite a few. We also had a few other menu items but kept coming back to ordering more taco pastor. That pineapple slice was different and good. The passion fruit margarita was fantastic until they ran out of it. Hence the 4 stars. A must go to have a meal while at the grand Mayan. read more

Great taco place outside the Grand Mayan campus. The restaurant is still part of the resort so you can charge it to your room. Inexpensive agua frescas and very delicious - better than sofa! 2 for 1 beers. Cheap tacos: taco al pastor less than $2. Other tacos $3-4. Guacamole was a must-order and the chips were not oily. Came here 5 years ago when it was at its old location. Now, it's inside the Vidanta resort. It's absolutely the best and the same! It was missing their old shrimp tacos which my son loved. We got the chicken quesadillas and pastor tacos & burritos. They're on the small side, so order 2+. It was enough for me though. I could eat their guacamole & chips all day! We had guacamole almost every day at other places, and Tacos Break's guacamole was hands-down the best! Tried to go there on Sunday for lunch, but they didn't open until 1pm, we were sad. Excellent value for being on the Vidanta resort map but not really being on the resort itself. It's located just outside the main entrance. Take the shuttles to the main entrance, cross the street when it's safe (cars have right of way) and turn left. You won't miss it! Can get single tacos for as cheap as 13 PESOS! We've had the molajete and the alchante (sp?) tacos break which each come with 5 tortillas. Wonderful array of salsas and unlimited chips. 2x1 domestic beers are so much better than 59 pesos for one can on the resort and agua frescas as are only 20 pesos per cup...cheaper than bottled water, safer than the house water and oh so refreshing on a hot humid day! Try the bean stew w/o the liquid...our 2 year old toddler has been gobbling that down since she's discovered it...it's the only thing she has consistently eaten for a decent amount of time before getting bored and trying to get down and cause trouble. Oh and if you want, you can charge it to your room! We've eating here daily upon finally leaving the resort for other adventures. Save your money and eat here instead of the pricey restaurants on site!! read more
