If you want real delicious Mexican food, this is the place,!! everything is freshly made, and very authentic Service is always great even when they're super busy, you get fresh salsas and veggies

    Pellizcaditas

A Hidden Gem That Deserves More Love! We stopped by Pellizcaditas and were seriously blown away. This spot is so underrated -- it felt like we were eating a home-cooked meal straight from someone's kitchen, but with restaurant-level service. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and comforting. I originally came in for the pellizcaditas (basically a giant sope for those who know), but I ended up ordering the enchiladas and I'm glad I did -- they were absolutely delicious. My husband and mom went with the pellizcaditas de chorizo with chicharrón prensado, and my sister got the huarache with lengua -- not a single bite disappointed. The agua de maracuyá was cold, refreshing, and perfect for the summer heat. Staff was friendly, food came out quick, and the quality speaks for itself. If you're looking for flavorful, authentic, no-shortcuts Mexican food, do not sleep on this place. You'll be planning your next visit before you even leave.

So glad I found this on the map. Why eat at the larger chains like sensor frogs when you can have authentic amazing food for less than $20 for 2 people!! The food was perfect and the people were very kind. It is cooled by a fan, but you can eat inside out of the sun, while smelling him cooking the meats on the grill.

The Mrs. and I had lunch today at Pellizcadas. Pellizcadas are more commonly known as sopes in the U.S. At Pellizcadas they cook what is referred to as a stew cooked in traditional Mexican Cazuelas which are lidded clay pots. The Mrs. and I both chose the stew with beef. I ordered mine on a blue corn pellizcada and the Mrs. order hers on the white corn version. Both were topped with cheese that was melted under a bed of beef and pinto beans topped with onions and cilantro. The texture of the dish was incredible and very filling. To accompany your pellizcada you are given a tray with three different sauces, lime, and vegetables for garnish. The Mrs. also ordered a pork taco which was really good as well but carbs are filling and it wasn't long before we were both full. The portion size is big enough for two people to share. You'd just need to fight over blue or white corn. The service were received was excellent and the atmosphere wasn't pretentious at all. The emphasis was definitely on the kitchen and the clay pots. Our meal, including drinks, came to a total of 265 pesos which is about $16 U.S. Not kidding. Probably one if the cheapest and best meals we've had in Puerto Vallarta.

Super friendly staff. Such good food! It's hard to find good, authentic Mexican "street food" with non-meat options. They used whole, lard-free beans, and the mushroom a la crema option was SO FLAVORFUL, and a nice chamge of flavor from typical just cheese and chile options. There were numerous choices of meals and meat options, and delicious salsa. It was a HOT day, and the multiple fans around the restaurant saved us!

Blue corn pellizcada, filled with flank steak, cheese, beans, onion & cilantro. Delicious!

If you are looking for a fun, traditional Mexican lunch experience Pellizcadas is perfect. We've been twice now, both times were great experiences! They have indoor seating as well as about 3 tables on the sidewalk with a small view of the ocean, restaurant is decorated very quaintly, and the outdoor area has cute brightly colored table cloths, and wooden tables and chairs. We enjoyed the outdoor seating, once with a party of two, and the next with a party of six, they were happy to put the tables together for us. We've tried the blue and white corn pellizcadas, which are fresh corn masa that has been pinched and griddled and served flat like a pizza, then topped with cheese (they go lighter on the cheese), meat or veggie of your choice, beans, and fresh onion and cilantro. The masa was tender and delicious, one is a perfect size per person, really fresh and a great lunch! We also tried the white and blue masa quesadillas, also really good, same toppings as the pellizcada, also perfect portion for one person. They serve an array of fresh salsas which are all excellent, none are overly spicy but some definitely have a fantastic heat, fresh cucumbers, radishes and limes, which really makes this place extra special. The servers are very sweet and very patiently explained the uniqueness of the dishes. The meats are tender and well seasoned, we tried the flank steak and chorizo, a friend had the mushrooms and cream, everyone enjoyed, and plates were completely clean at the end. Pro tip: they don't serve beer, but don't mind you buying some from across the way, just keep your receipt for them is all they ask!

All the food is cooked on traditional clay pots.

This is a very down to earth family owned restaurant that will serve you MEXICO on a clay plate! Holy molly I have never had a better quesadilla in my life! I asked for a beef tongue in salsa verde quesadilla. I had angels come down from heaven to announce the arrival of my dish! I am telling you, it was so good that I kept rolling my eyes out of pleasure with every bite. The portions are very generous, so one quesadilla was enough to satisfy my hunger. Everything is cooked and served on clay pots and plates, even the one litter mugs where they serve the agua fresca was made out of clay! Loved loved loved this place! Give these genuine ladies the opportunity to take you one a tour to the Mexican culture by just sitting at their table! You're welcome!

This is the best food I've had in PV so far and very reasonable prices. I got the blue corn pellizcada con lengua. 100% amazing

Pellizcadas doesn't disappoint! The menu is simple--a variety traditional meats prepared in casuelas are added to your choice of tacos, quesadillas, huaraches, etc.--but extraordinarily succulent and flavorful. The women who run the place are kind and attentive and the prices are very modest. The best part of the meal, though, is the selection of salsas. Each salsa has a distinct flavor profile and they're all so good I want to eat them with a spoon! Just wonderful.

They have great fresh drinks too.

My new favorite taco stand. Try the mushroom filling, it is unexpected and delicious. the staff, very friendly. $2.50 US for 2 tacos.

First time eating pellizcadas. They were delicious and filling. You can select 2 different types of meat in your pellizcadas or quesadillas. As an extra bonus they took credit cards which comes in handy when you're at the end of your vacation and running out of cash. Great service too.

I found this place using Yelp and was not disappointed. It's a small local place a block away from the beach and a good spot for local food. I don't speak Spanish, but the people were very helpful and kind.

Google Maps took us to the wrong restaurant, but we were NOT disapppinted. Love the meats, we tried chicken tinga and chorizo, both were juicy. Great to have many flavorful sauces, and grilled onions brought to the table. One of the few places that offered beans in their tacos.

There are places that simply serve food--and then there are places that become part of your story…read more Pepe's Tacos is exactly that for me. Having come here since I was 10 years old, this iconic taquería isn't just a local favorite--it's a timeless institution that continues to define what truly exceptional tacos should be. Since 1987, Pepe's has built a reputation that extends far beyond Puerto Vallarta, and one visit is all it takes to understand why. The star of the show--their legendary tacos al pastor--is nothing short of extraordinary. The pork is expertly marinated and cooked to perfection, resulting in meat that is incredibly juicy, tender, and bursting with deep, savory flavor. Each slice is carved with precision and layered onto warm tortillas, creating a perfect foundation for what comes next. What truly elevates these tacos is the balance of toppings. The sweetness of the pineapple and the sharpness of the fresh onions cut through the richness of the meat beautifully, enhancing every bite with contrast and complexity. It's a masterclass in simplicity done right--every ingredient playing its role to perfection. Beyond the food, the experience itself is just as memorable. The service is impressively fast and efficient, especially considering how popular this spot is, and there's an undeniable energy in the air that makes it feel alive at all hours. It's the kind of place you can count on for a late-night bite, where the atmosphere is casual, vibrant, and always welcoming. Pepe's Tacos isn't about reinvention or trend--it's about consistency, tradition, and delivering excellence time and time again. Decades later, it still holds its place as one of the best taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, and for good reason. Some things never change--and when they're this good, they absolutely shouldn't.

Out front, the trompo spins over charcoal fire, hand turned, on display to the street. The man at the blade is a performer, part craftsman, part showman. He hones his knife between razor thin shavings of al pastor, then in a reflexive flourish nips the pineapple crowning the meat, sending a sliver flying only to catch it with a tortilla. It is theater, but it is also instinct. Inside, the crowd looks like the United Nations. A tour group from India next to a Dutch family with half a dozen kids in tow, the Canadians eye the Americans with deserved suspicion, and a few locals whose plates are piled high while tourists settle for modest portions. It is the natural order of things, and nobody complains. The charcoal scent in the meat makes clear this is al pastor's intended preparation. I have never had the pleasure of eating from a coal fired trompo before, and it is instantly apparent that this is the way it was meant to be. Someday, somehow, I will rig one of these up, because I need this in my life. Pepe's is not just a taco shop. It is a master class in tradition, theater, and flavor, with a dining room that feels like the world gathered around one spit.

From our table you can watch the fishing boats and excursion boats heading out for the day, which gives the whole experience a relaxed, resort-like rhythm without feeling touristy or rushed. Service was excellent from the start--attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. They brought out a selection of pastries you can add if you want, like banana bread and cinnamon rolls, which felt like a thoughtful touch rather than an upsell. The coffee was very good, with plenty of options ranging from cappuccinos and café lattes to classic American coffee, all well prepared. For food, I ordered the scrambled eggs with Mexican chorizo, refried beans, and hash browns. It came with a basket of warm corn tortillas and several house salsas, letting you customize each bite. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and clearly made with care. We also ordered the shrimp eggs Benedict with spinach, which was beautifully done--rich, balanced, and fresh, with the shrimp cooked just right. One thing that really stands out is the ambiance. Being right on the beach, hearing the waves, feeling the breeze, and being encouraged (without being told) to slow down and take your time makes the meal feel like part of the vacation itself, not just fuel for the day. They also offer freshly squeezed juices, which pair perfectly with breakfast by the ocean. The menu is extensive, almost overwhelming in a good way--there are so many appealing options that it's genuinely hard to decide. That said, what we ordered was absolutely delicious and satisfying, and it left us wanting to come back and try more. Overall, La Palapa delivers on every level: location, atmosphere, food, and service. It's the kind of place where breakfast turns into a memory, not just a meal.

I came in alone on a Thursday night at around 8 pm with no reservation and was lucky to be able to be seated at a high top table for two adjacent to the bar. I would definitely suggest getting a reservation as I quickly saw the dining room fill-up. The waitstaff was incredibly attentive and kind. Upon sitting, I was greeted by my server, a tableside bartender, and a manager who explained everything. I was given the wine and cocktail lists and quickly made a selection based on the bartenders recommendation. He prepared my drink right in front of me and had a whole beautiful cart set-up. I got a tequila cocktail that was sweet and tart at the same time. It was really tasty. Next, I was given the food menu and my waiter came by to see if I had any question. I also received complimentary chips and salsa service. The chips were fresh and different than most I've tried. I think they may have been baked instead of fried. They also give you three different salsas that range from mild, medium, and hot. The medium was a creamy garlic sauce that was very tasty and unlike anything I've ever seen at a Mexican restaurant. My waiter also came by to present some of their seafood specials and to tell me about their beef. Again, a beautiful presentation and if I was with others, or more hungry, I would have gotten the large shrimp dish. The seafood and meat looked very fresh. Unfortunately, I was not feeling well, which only progressed throughout the meal. I ended up just getting the tuna tartare app to start, but I couldn't finish it and decided to end my meal earlier than expected. The tartare was tasty. It had a habanero-mango salsa that was kind of spicy to me. It also had watermelon and mango pieces, which really balanced everything. The best part about the service is that the waitstaff is never too far away if you need anything, but they aren't a bother. When I needed to go, my waiter gathered the remainder of my meal and gave me some fresh tortillas. My bill was $50, which wasn't too bad for a cocktail, sparkling water bottle, and honestly an entree sized app of tuna tartare. I'm sad I was unable to enjoy more, but would def recommend this place to anyone visiting PVR.

The guacamole freshly prepared and chips fresh fried. Amazing. The 3 types of vegan tacos we got were vegan chorizo, mushrooms and cactus (trying for the fist time). The vegan chorizo was the best, slightly spicy but not overly. The poblano peppers were predictable but very good. The onions with it were a good addition. Nicely seasoned and prepared. The cactus was good, we found that it was less seasoned. Just stir fried cactus. The star of all the three types tacos was the fresh blue corn tacos. We could have those everyday. The other superb tasting was the salsas and fresh toppings. 4 types of salsas, white onions and cilantro. The salsa were of varying different levels of heat and even the mildest salsa was the best.
