This was our second visit and it was just as good as the first. The service here is amazing. Oscar was so helpful and quick to get us anything we needed. I had the pozole and it was so good. The only problem was there were little pork bones that I wasn't expecting, so I had to eat carefully. We had the fried cheese as an appetizer and it was delicious. Make sure to scrape the bottom of the pan with this one! It's definitely a very causal vibe which was great for our family so the kids could be themselves. We always make a trip to Restaurante Dona Tere for the ribs special, but tonight I tried the Tequila Shrimp and they were delicious. Made with garlic, butter, shrimp, cilantro and cream. Oscar always takes care of us and us friendly and unobtrusive. read more

Horrible service. The waiters were really annoying with their sarcasm. We walked in at 9pm and we were looking at the menu and we were rushed by the waiter to order because they were closing soon?? I said I thought you close at 10:30 and he said no .. we ended up only ordering for the kids since we felt rushed @ 9pm. Then 15 min later another family walked in and they didn't mention they were closing soon. So that was irritating. This little spot was right by my Airbnb and I've ran by it so many times. My boyfriend and I finally decided to stop by and try it. We were so glad we did! It's really a family-run business. It almost feels like you're eating at someone's home. The menu was written on a whiteboard (and probably changes occasionally, or maybe even daily)--I love that! I couldn't decide on what to order because I wanted to try everything. Luckily, there's an option for that! The lady who took our order (presumably the owner) offered us the "Mexican Platter" which had a bit of everything on it--think of it as a sampler. It included: sope, gordita, taco dorado, tostada, pozole, and enchilada. It was plenty for two people to share! It was only 120 pesos! Since we were hungry, after we tried all those items, we picked out our favorite and ordered more. My boyfriend ordered 3 tacos dorados and I ordered 4 sopes. 4 sopes was 60 pesos. We also ordered a horchata. In total we spent about $8 USD. Worth it? Totally. It's truly nothing fancy and nothing absolutely mind-blowing good, but definitely authentic and great for the price. First of all, the waiters are not funny although they try to be. I was very annoyed at their lame jokes. We ordered a cheeseburger plain for my son, but the cook felt it needed mayonnaise per his taste. We also ordered chicken tenders and the waiters got into a disagreement as to whether or not they serve them, after we were told they did. Food was horrible. We were going to eat at El Barracuda but it was packed so we thought we would try something else. I don't know how this place is still in business to be honest because their food is horrible. We decided to share a mocahette. They bring us the dish and it had zero juice in the bowl to start. The steak was dry and without flavor. The chicken was over salted beyond edibility and dry as well. The side of beans looked like they were out of a can three days ago and tasted like it too, not to mention cold. The rice was oily and without flavor of any any kind. Only reason they get 1 star is because I have to give something to leave the review. Obviously there is a reason this place is empty and others are not :(. We have been coming to PV for years now and at least we can say we know not to eat here. I had the chilaquiles, which were tasty. I loved the orange juice, which I desperately needed after walking 15 minutes in the Mexican summer to get here. I showed up a super sweaty mess but I wanted to get away form the resort for a while. Portions were huge and I didn't even finish half, but had to let the rest go. My meal came with toast and butter which I didn't even touch. I think with a beverage, tax, and tip, the meal was less than $6 USD. Crazy cheap. This place was recommended by one of the bartenders at our resort....so we went with two other families for dinner. The food was not memorable...meaning they really didn't make great impression. They're just mediocre.... Fish tacos were pretty good!!! Prices were pretty cheap...but I think the tacos at OXXO would taste better. There is no good reason to go to the high end restaurants in the resorts around when you can come and experience the real authentic Mexican cuisine at Dona Tere. There's nothing really bad with this place but it just falls flat. I'm not impressed by the food or the set up. It's like basic street food but it's in a restaurant in an upscale area and honestly I prefer eating this kind of food in the barrio, on the street... without the overhead. Have been coming here for pozole and shrimp burrito for years. We followed Doña Tere to this newer location after it moved from its previous place Boulevard Nuevo Vallarta. As always, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the food is excellent, and consistently delicious. It's one of the few places to get a good pozole in Nuevo Vallarta, loaded with meat and hominy and in a delicious spicy red broth. Give the shrimp burrito a shot - we used to ask for it "bañado," meaning it was bathed in a nice red soupy sauce - and it was always excellent and loaded with shrimp. read more

It is very non descriptive during the day but at night they have these gorgeous mexican lanterns and the bar is backlit. Sitting down we all were impressed by the atmosphere. Food is OK. Nothing to write home about. We were seated quickly and ordered tapwater from our waiter. He proceeded to tell us they don't have tap water. But the table next to us was drinking tap water. I asked the lady next to us that have the tap Water and she just shook her head and said we been here three times and never was told that. We asked him again and he said no they don't have tap Water. So I went up to the bar and pointed & said I would like the water that the other table has. He was not happy with me. We did get the tapwater but he was very rude the majority of the night to us. We were very polite and would say please and thank you and he would not acknowledge us. The waiters that brought our food and clear the table were very friendly and great. We only had US dollars and we knew the conversion rate. When we are about to leave our waiter said let me tell you how it works here before you leave. He said it wasn't enough money that we were leaving, Because he would only be getting a dollar tip. So we gave four more dollar as a tip. And then he was Mr. happy. Once we left we quickly realized he added on about four dollars to our bill. I guess it was his way to get paid for the water. Just be aware if you don't have pesos that your bill might be more than it really is. read more

I have been going to Puerto Vallarta for over 15 years and this is one of my favorite go to restaurants. Service is superb and they treat you like family. Hands down the best grilled octopus I have ever had. Tender, flavorful and smoky. All the food here is excellent and the breakfast is off the charts. The staff goes out of their way to make sure you are happy and satisfied. As for the house hot sauce that they use to marinade some items. Loaded with heat and garlic, it ain't a salsa, it's a dipping sauce. Every vacation I eat here at least twice. read more
