Something was very wrong with my Mexican pizza. It tasted like it had something very rancid in it. I can't get the bad after taste out. Yuk!

Great food and service! Staff is friendly. Not really much else to say, but I have to add more characters for yelp.

The atmosphere hits that sweet spot between cozy and lively--perfect for catching up with friends…read moreor winding down after a day exploring Alaska. Ample parking, easy access, and the kind of brewery where you feel welcome whether you're a lifelong Alaskan or just passing through. Pro tip: Arrive with an appetite and an open mind. Get a sampler flight of the beers, ask the bartender what's new or seasonal, and don't hesitate to pair it with something from the kitchen--this one's worth the stop. All told: If craft beer is part of your travel plan (or if you simply want a great local spot for food & drink), Matanuska Brewing Company in Palmer should be high on your list. Cheers to that!

It's always fun scratching off a brewery out of Alaska. The beer most of time is quite solid and…read moreflavorful from most of the breweries that I have tried out. Mantanuska Brewery is the latest brewery I got to try for the first time and it was an enjoyable first time experience. Steve and I got one beer from this brewery on two separate occasions and I liked it both times. The Deep Powder Porter was the name of the beer we had. What I liked about this beer was that it was very smooth which made it an easy one to drink. There is a malty sweetness going on here with roasty, caramel and cocoa flavors. Untappd had the beet as a feature with this beer as "brilliant " and I can see that going on with this porter but I might call it "alive" as this porter wasn't a dull one at all to drink but instead it was a fun one.

First of all, shame on Yelp's listing system for not letting me list the Instagram account of this…read morebusiness as their website. So many foodtrucks use their IG or their FB to broadcast their locations, and many don't have a traditional dub-dub-dub website. Here's the good for KotM: FB: https://www.facebook.com/kingofthemountainak/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/kingofthemountainak/ I've been trying to get to this food truck for quite some time, but have never been able to catch them. I know the owner (Travis) from the climbing community, he's probably one of the most passionate, skilled ice climbers I know! In the non-climbing world, he's been the chef at various restaurants in the area (the first one the comes to mind is Seven Glaciers in Girdwood). He largely does events now (think: weddings, festivals, private events, etc.), and that's where I was able to catch him! Detour: as someone from the South, I am triggered by the careless use of the word "BBQ" outside of The South. When someone invites me over for a "BBQ" I expect that they've been smokin' meats (mainly pig) since 4am. When I just find burgers and hot dogs...I get sad. Back on track: I caught KotM at the Mountaineering Club of Alaska's annual Summer Cookout (bless your heart MCA, for not saying BBQ). But guess what? He MADE ACTUAL BBQ! There was tons of luscious, juicy pork with all the fixin's of new and old: fruit, potato salad, quinoa, desserts, etc. There were a handful of homemade BBQ sauces in squeeze bottles. The whole thing was perfect. Thank you MCA for setting my expectations low, and thank you KotM for blowing them outta the water!

Stopped by Sweet Gypsy and this is such a good little find, just know going in that it's takeout…read moreonly, no indoor seating. They're known for their gourmet cheesecakes (with rotating flavors), but they also have a full menu with salads, paninis, and other items that change up, which I love because it gives you a reason to keep coming back. I got the ABBA panini and it was so good, apples, bacon jam, brie, and arugula, and everything just worked together really well. Also a solid portion size, which I always appreciate. Of course I had to try a cheesecake too, and went with the caramel apple. I was actually surprised (in a good way) that it had thinly sliced apples baked right into it, which added such a good texture and made it feel a little more unique than your typical cheesecake. Service was great, super friendly and quick, and everything felt really well done. Definitely a spot I'd go back to, especially to try whatever cheesecake flavor they have next.

Time and time again I keep coming back for more amazing food at Sweet Gypsy. The bacon Mac and cheese appetizers are my go-to starter and I love trying all the different paninis. Sweet Gypsy chefs are outstanding and make great vegetarian, vegan, gluten free options.
