This was my first time to visit this very cool neighborhood bar. I met a new, but dear friend for a catch up over happy hour. Their HH menu is really good and all things considered, affordable. I had a shrimp cake (delicious) and a kale salad. The salad was a very generous serving, simple and tasty. I also tried a glass of the HH red wine - also good, so i had another! ;) My friend tried the fish and chips which looked really good too. I will definitely be back. Even though i live on the other side of town I know it will be worth trip. The service was just the right amount of friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is casual and cool. Stopped by for burgers after a suggestion on Reddit. We had the black and white (the burger with bacon) as well as the lamb burger. The burgers were good but not the best we've had in Portland. To be fair, there's some insanely good burgers in this town. Def solid and I'd be back for more if I lived closer, but not going out of my way. The lamb burger was nasty. Way too gamey, didnt taste fresh. Im assuming they sell way less of those. My GF couldnt finish it due to that and she LOVES lamb. The fries were also soggy, greasy and some were burnt, along with being too salty. Def need to tweak the fries recipe and/or change the oil more frequently. Im assuming its just in the prep though, as everything felt high quality here. Like I said, if Im in the area I'd definitely eat here again, try more items. I was in the mood for a burger and YELP brought us here during our Portland trip in August/September. This is a favorite spot amongst the residents of the Tabor neighborhood in Portland. I recall seeing bartenders and servers know certain people by name and chatting about local and personal matters. You can tell the regulars appreciate this place. Once we sat down, we got greeted quickly and got a few drinks. A margarita for the girlfriend while I went with a Steeple Jack Comet Ale. The margarita tasted fine and I liked the Ale's easy texture. They recommended it to me when I mentioned I like Pale Ales so that one is on my radar. As for food, I went with the Tabor burger which was quite big and had a balance of quality flavors with the bleu cheese, bacon jam, and arugula. A very good quality burger with richness from the cheese and sweetness from the jam to counter everything. My girlfriend was recommended the fish and chips by our waitress so she went with that and enjoyed it. Fish was crispy and she liked the tarter sauce. The fries were so-so but she still ate them. We ended with the peach cobbler; a tasty dessert and nice way to polish off our meal. There was mentions they do a solid brunch here so we'll have to try that next time we're in Portland. But as far as tavern eats are concerned, you can't go wrong with a burger and beer here if you're in the mood for those. read more

Wow, we were looking for a place to grab lunch after Thrift Shopping. Stumbled across the Tabor Tavern while waiting for a stop light. Someone said, hey I've heard about this place, let's try! So we did. Cute and quaint atmosphere, greeted as we walked in and quickly seated. They not only serve lunch but BRUNCH!! We decided to order the Vegan Butternut Squash soup, And Fish n Chips. Everything was delicious. My fish was huge, but I managed to put it away. I also tasted my friend's soup, boy it was like a warm hug of deliciousness. They had two football games playing and my favorite Seahawks, plus they had some great tunes playing. I will definitely come back and try another item on their menu. Highly recommend. read more

The three of us were hungry and needed to catch up on time. Two of us ordered a smoked salmon soup cup, and then proceeded to order chippino, shrimp and grits and a bowl of soup.. my script and grits had an off flavor that I wasn't really happy with the shrimp or cook perfect with the grits for some reason how too much paprika the cheese wasn't very flavorful but anyway, I packed it up to go to get to a friend. Victoria ordered the cioppino and enjoyed her meal but also thought it might've been a little bit too salty. Our friend enjoyed the soup and finished all of it. I had also ordered a Lamberger to go. I'm sure that will be very enjoyable later. I will be back to this tavern because we enjoyed the beers in the comfort of this place. The service was very good and the prices were reasonable. First of all, the parking is very difficult to find. Secondly, the service is phenomenal. Friendly server but there was a bit of a wait since it was around 5pm Friday. The food came out quickly and I ordered right before happy hour ended so it was just snacking size. I didn't like the steak bites too much. Kinda dry and tough. Kale Caesar was mediocre. Fries could be a bit more crispy and seasoned. I did order a Mac and cheese which could be a bit cheesier or creamier. I would come here for the drinks and vibes not so much on food. If I could give this place no stars I would. I have been here on more than 6 times reluctantly, as my dad likes the atmosphere and due to his years of smoking can't taste what's in the food. I have ordered a different thing each time I have come here in hopes to find something that is edible. I have struck out every single time. To add to the pain the service is lack luster and unbearable. Tonight, We got a table and then 40 minutes went by before we were able to get an order in. My partner asked if the veggie burger was made with potato starch as they have a potato intolerance, the waitress left to go check, didn't come back as she decided to start stacking glasses and cleaning tables. 10 minutes went by and then she was bring out other people's food and then saw us and then came back to take our order again. I had the lamb burger, it was under cooked and tasted like soap. I had to drench it in sauce just to be able to eat it. Previous times with this same server the service was consistent, asked for a side of ranch, 10 minutes went by, I had to go up to the bar tender and ask for it as she decided to do other things, another time I wanted to get a refill of water but she never came back to our table and probably other things that I can't remember. We have driven by this place for years and never stopped in before today, so we thought we'd give it a try. A little disappointing, to be quite honest. The Tabor dip sandwiches were cold, the au jus was also cold. The club sandwich was OK, although it looked like the cook dropped a spoonful of the bacon jam on one side of the bread and didn't bother to spread it around. Server was not good. Hipster vibe but not in a good way. He bussed several tables before getting to us. Brought iced tea, which was unsweetened, and didn't ask if we wanted any sweetener. Took about 10 minutes to get his attention to ask for sugar, even though he walked by our table probably a dozen times. Didn't check on us during the meal to see if everything was OK. Didn't care. I really DO recommend the Tabor tavern! Literally down the street from an airbnb I frequent in PDX. The first time I was there, I passed by multiple times, observing locals enjoying their meals outside and inside, but never stopped in. This past trip, when hungry and looking for something easy, we walked right over and were seated immediately. We got there at 5:40, JUST missing their happy hour, which looks pretty excellent. On the other hand, I ordered the kale caesar and my husband got the burger and we both enjoyed our meals tremendously. Fresh ingredients and skilled execution coming out of the kitchen. The other thing I REALLY like about the Tabor Tavern, something I wish were true where I live on the East Coast is that this is a true neighborhood spot. On the East coast, an establishment may be described as a "neighborhood" spot in the vibe they are trying to grow with their customers. My partner and I were running around looking at some houses and realized that while we had an appointment elsewhere later in the evening, there was no way we were going to be up for that if we didn't have dinner. She pulled up a quick search and Tabor Tavern hit on "gastropub" and that pretty much made the decision. That turned out to be a very solid decision indeed. The beer board had enough tempting brews with which we weren't familiar to merit several tastings -- she wound up with the Nitro Wild Ride Vanilla Cream Ale, I wound up with the Von Ebert Volatile Substance. We ordered, and while waiting, surveyed the surroundings. It was a very nice traditional pub, some nice touches. The ceiling fan that was actually spinning two rotary fans was very cool -- and the extra cooling was very welcome! The service was prompt enough for a lazy Sunday evening dinner, and very attentive. At no point did we feel rushed, nor ignored. The perfect balance. Dinner arrived and there was much rejoicing. My partner got the pepper crusted seared ahi with a salad and chips; I got the lamb burger and pub fries. I elected to lose the harissa sauce that the burger came with and substitute the horseradish from the steak frites. That worked swimmingly, once I got enough horseradish on board to have the desired effect. Everything was super tasty. It's way past time for an update! We've now been going to Tabor Tavern for years and the food is always sooo excellent! The hubster and I went recently on a weekend night and had a great time. The atmosphere is quite cozy and the place is generally hopping! I had the shepherd's pie which was amazeballs, topped with just the right amount of mashed potatoes. The filling was full of lamb, veggies, beans and sauce. The complexity of the flavors was terrific. My husband had the reuben, which they did correctly by using Russian dressing not that gross 1000 Island stuff. He said it was wonderful. They also make an awesome turkey club, which has a nice sweet and savory tang, due to their use of bacon jam. Their fish and chips are some of the best in town, and the fried chicken sandwich is also tasty. My spouse is a big fan of the burgers. You really can't miss with your pick at the Tavern! read more

Wonderful---except..... We arrived about 5:15 on a v busy Dec Friday night. Only had to wait a few mins to be seated in a booth. We were grateful the server allowed us to order off the Happy Hour menu; it was about 5:28! The food and drinks were great and came to our table pretty quickly. As soon as we finished eating the server brought the check and told us there were people waiting at the door to be seated. I've never been asked to leave a restaurant before so someone else could have our booth. We were there less than 50 mins. I won't be going back. Parking was a nightmare, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. It was so dark and raining so hard, finding a spot would be easier in the summer when you can see better! read more

I gotta say, this is a hard review to write. We have been coming to Tabor Tavern for years. It's such a great spot, but lately the quality and customer service have diminished. A while back we placed a to-go order and when we arrived to pick it up, they were only accepting cash. No big deal other than they didn't tell us when we placed the order. Ok, fine. The last time we picked up our order, there was a piece of plastic in the burger. Gross, but we reluctantly decided to just deal. Today? Picked up a Tabor Burger only instead of arugula in it as the menu states, it had some spring mix on it and the French fries were stone cold. It was not good and now we're really frustrated. We are starting to feel scammed by this place. Why are they not checking in with customers when their credit card machines are down or when they are out of an ingredient? Why is there plastic in the food? We're bummed, but we can't sit idly by anymore. We hope you all have better luck there, but we're going to take a break from this place. read more

Great summer stop for outside dining and drinks outdoor seating for a late summer evening is a must. The place definitely feels like a neighborhood hangout with lots of people walking up and no real parking. The food was great. It was fresh and perfectly seasoned with just enough to be almost to much but not enough to take it with you and lose it in the back of your fridge. The drinks were tasty, and they had a great variety of beers on tap. The service was very pleasant but you could tell that they were busy. All in all we never felt rushed or crowded.
