Probably the best bar food in Portland. The concept is Buffalo tavern food, which isn't something you see very often outside of Western New York. The wings are excellent--crispy, perfectly fried, and served with chunky house-made blue cheese. As good as they are, the real surprise was everything else on the menu. The Beef on Weck was a standout: thinly sliced roast beef piled onto a kummelweck roll (a kaiser roll topped with coarse salt and caraway seeds) with plenty of horseradish. Simple, messy, and ridiculously good. The fried pizza logs and Buffalo chicken finger subs were great as well, though obvious in name - completely new to me. Add a stellar beer list and a lively, friendly vibes and you're going to have a good time. read more

Great bar food, fun menu! Chicken wings were great. The roast beef sandwich was pretty good. My friend got the fish sandwich with cheese and said it was delicious! The pizza logs were delicious, a fun menu item. I always love to dip something. The waffle fries were great too. A cool spot on the corner in a cool neighborhood. They have outside service until a certain time and then you can order at the bar. It gets pretty packed here and rightfully so. This place is pretty cool. If you're in the neighborhood stop for a pizza logs! read more

Stopped by here with my partner after seeing some hype online, and it definitely lived up to it. The wings and cheese curds were incredible, they put this seasoning on top of the curds that completely elevates them. The staff was super genuine and friendly, the place was really clean, and the prices are great (especially for a date night). We'll absolutely be back! read more

Food was good, chips were lame. Bar staff awesome . But I won't go back because the music was so loud I couldn't hear my friend speak

Stopped in to Tinker Tavern with my husband today after delivering keys to my client in SE Portland. We decided to try out some of Paul's reminiscent hometown grub that he has been missing. This being one of two bars in Portland dedicated to Buffalo Bills(his team, not mine), he's been hinting that he wanted to come and try to catch a game here but it's quite a hike from home in Beaverton. Well today was our day since we were so close. Walking in his face lit up as he took in all the Buffalo Bills decor around the restaurant. It was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon holiday weekend; we found a couple seats up at the bar. So many things in the menu screamed out at us to try but "Weck Royale" was his choice, a delicious twist on the sandwich he's been craving since we last visited his hometown in 2018. The "Royale" version was served with bone marrow. The cheese curds were good with a Buffalo spice dry rub. I committed one of the cardinal East coast sins and asked for Ranch dressing!! I opted for the crab roll and a cup of clam chowder that were featured as their anniversary special. We'll definitely be back to try the wings as well as the "chicken finger sub" known to Buffalo folks! read more

Food was simple but good in this neighborhood hangout. Noise level was a little high for my liking. Staff was efficient and friendly.

Steph and I stopped into Tinker Tavern to try out some reminiscent "hometown" grub, and it really hit the spot! As one of only two bars in Portland fully decked out as Buffalo Bills bars, the ambiance is spot-on for fans, and the menu perfectly matches that Western New York vibe. I tried the 'Weck Royale, which was a delicious twist on the classic Beef on Weck I've been craving. We also ordered the cheese curds, and they were great, especially with that Buffalo dry spice kick. Even though it was a Saturday afternoon and the place was really busy, we managed to snag seats at the bar, and the service was good throughout our visit. We'll definitely need to head back soon to tackle the wings and that chicken finger sub! read more

I have hit the Tinker for 3 different sandos in the last couple of weeks, Cheddar Weck, Italian and the Meatball, all have been really tasty, my fave was the Italian, but all are solid. My friend and I were killing time in the area so decided to stop in for a pint. It's a little dive bar, but the servers were friendly. he thought it a bit hipster-ish, but I thought it was just fine. Sure it's rundown and they try to seem fancy with different glasses for the different beers, but you have to stand out somehow. read more

First time trying the delicious food here at Tinker Tavern, and it did not disappoint! I love regional cuisines, and Upstate NY has some darn good eating- beef on a weck? Oh yea! The manager was making the house Orgeat while we were there, Mai Tai please! Also they feature Star Trek memorabilia & had STNG on the toob. Our server was stylishly dressed and made a very nice martini. Great experience, we'll be back! read more

Went on a social media recommendation. Lots of regulars, good vibe. Looks like a watering hole where Buffalo Bills' fans congregate. The Negroni special was tasty, but a touch too expensive. I ordered their most popular item, the Cheddah 'Weck: a generous serving of beef on top of a au jus soaked roll. The yummy cheese is a thick sauce rather than a melted slice. And on Wednesday it's on special and includes better than average potato chips. The bartender and another guy who worked there were cool. The sandwich did take longer than expected to prepare, but no big. Parking wasn't a problem. read more

Distinctive neighborhood bar, decorated with vintage Buffalo Bills flags and banners and shelves full of Star Trek memorabilia. Also impressive and wide list of beers on tap. We tried the Italian sub, which came with a handful of potato chips and was really nothing special, three stars level, but the bar itself and the cordial service was great, five stars. Seems the better food offerings would have been wings or the beef on weck. Will order more wisely the next time. read more

I keep an eye out for an Italian Hoagie like I grew up with Pittsburgh, so had to try the one here at Tinker. Yeah, the Pittsburgh version was fully baked, cheese melted and all. At least Tinker toasted the roll for me. This sandiwch very meat, and quality Italian meats. The mama lil's pepper mayonnaise was a great flavorful touch. Place was pretty empty, so seemed lke the sandiwches took a little long to get to us. There are several Buffalo sports banners here, as well as several Mr. Spock things. Very friendly bar tender. The potato chips were a little stale. read more

As a former Buffalonian and Bills fan, I am happy to have Tinker Tavern. A place where I can order Labatt and a beef on weck? With snow outside I feel like I'm back in WNY. That beef on weck is great by the way, and I never get tired explaining to people what 'weck' is... I also love getting to sing our fight song with a room full of fans. It's not uncommon to see the opposing teams fans braving a room full of crazy Bills fans, but hey, it's not called the City of good neighbors for nothing - we are a generally welcoming crowd, as long as you aren't being a dick about it. And who can be a jerk to Bills fans? We suffer enough without your help thank you very much. Maybe one day we will be celebrating a Super Bowl win. Until then I will drown my anxiety and sorrow with a bucket of blues and a room full of people that just get it. The staff is friendly and does a great job keeping up with drink orders and the mad close out rush at the end of games. read more

Hidden gem for sure! I love the ambience here and the staffs were very helpful. Having adult swim on TV was a bonus. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it came with potato chips! Came here for the food because the wings were recommended. Service was quick. There was no Bill's game on, but I imagine if there was, it would have been much more busy. I love this place. A place that has both a rotating wing sauce and rotating Negroni is definitely worth a visit, and Tinker knocks it out of the park on both. Excellent, comfortable bar with a genuinely impressive selection of liquor, beer, and amaros. The waffle fries really tie it all together. Having some kind of Trek playing all the time is also a great selling point for me as well. I have had so many good conversations with the bartenders, and always feel welcome and taken care of when I'm here. read more

This place was fun and can get very busy. We all had the boilermakers. They're $16 each but very worth it and VERY strong as they come with a shot of Michter's. The food was ok, or at least the apps that we got. The pizza logs were good and delicious however the cheese curds were extremely salty BUT the offered to cover those which was great. Bottom line, this place is fun and gets very full on the weekends. I'd definitely go back. read more

This is our favorite place by far. The environment is chill and welcoming. They have a Stark Trek theme going on that my husband loves. It feels like our very own "Cheers." All I can say is I flew into town from KC after attending the Bills dominant performance in 2021 SNF over the Chiefs. I picked this bar to visit randomly the night after. Loved it. The food, bartenders and drinks were all top notch. We have stopped in for a bills game, Hamlins's return game to be specific, and enjoyed that vibe too. Go Chiefs! read more

I come here fairly frequently. The beer list is always stellar. The cocktails are of the highest quality and the food is top notch. Usually I get the Buffalo chicken salad, but this time I went with a bowl of Minestrone. It was delicious and sooo filling. Regardless, I almost had a second bowl because it was sooo tasty. Tinker Tavern has the friendliest staff too. Great job everyone. Let's Go Buffalo! read more

Absolutely love this place! Keep coming back for the buffalo chicken salad! So good. The menu is on the smaller side but everything is DELICIOUS! For the OWNER/MANGER: it would be helpful to have some signage or possibly a check in with staff. Every time we come it's a bit confusing if it's order at the bar or table service. A bit annoying. But won't keep us from coming back! But I will say, in this post Covid world it is SO NICE to have table service ;) read more

Last week I had the chance (finally!) to stop by Tinker Tavern to check it out with a couple of friends. The service was next level. We were never left wanting/waiting for anything and, rather, our drinks couldn't get below 1/2 level without a quick pop by/check in from our server (who was great...didn't get her name). She could always seem to anticipate what we needed before we even knew it. Beyond that, the waffle fries are REALLY good and drinks are great and reasonably priced. Bubbles for $8 a glass? YES please, particularly when many other places are charging an average of $12 a glass. The outdoor setup is great and everyone is equipped with heaters for a bonus! Check it out! You won't be disappointed. read more

Okay it may only be my first time here, but as a life long Portland native I have to say, when someone does it right, they do it right. Opening post-covid is a HUGE risk but these folks did it and did it rooiight. Good drinks, amazing smiles, and heaters at your table! You'd be silly not to try this place. Also don't come here, I still want to be able to get a seat next time I come. read more

This. Place. Is. Bomb. Montavilla has quickly become THE place for casual bars and gourmet dining in the outer east side and Tinker Tavern is the perfect spot in this quaint neighborhood. I came here twice in just a few days because I enjoyed it so much. The Rose City Spritzer is the perfect mix of crisp refreshment and boozy goodness. My partner and I also ordered the pizza logs (pepperoni + mozzarella in an egg roll wrapper) and delicious heirloom tomato salad aka The Summer Salad. Both items were simple yet outstanding in their own way. The menu does consist of mostly sandwiches, so if that's not your thing, come here for the drinks. I must say the service is also top notch. The staff makes everyone feel so welcome and accepted... It's a nice break from the sometimes pretentious attitude you can find in Portland. Thanks for being awesome, Tinker Tavern! read more

Great service with a all present precautions in place. The old fashion on the drinks menu was rich & spice driven it seemed...probably bc of the amaro. I didn't think Montavilla needed another bar but I was wrong. It needed this place. As I live just a few blocks away I spend a lot of time in Montavilla. I agree with the other reviews that this place has an especially friendly, warm, casual vibe that is so great. It is perfectly placed in between the dive bar and the high-end expensive fancy places. The food is higher quality than the menu would suggest. My kids got addicted to the salt and pepper rub chicken wings, so I'm in here regularly to pick those up. I got a roasted root vegetable salad that was out of this world. It is so refreshing to see high quality healthy items on a classic bar menu. Brought some food from them to a movie down the street and the staff at tinker tavern got the food out super quickly for me to be on time to the movie, they are so accommodating. They have nice outdoor seating too, and the neighborhood is full of other things to do in terms of shopping, other restaurants to go to, a movie theater, a walk in Mt. Tabor . . . read more
