And almost certainly made up, by someone who just couldn't be bothered. I tell him that Bust Buy happily installs screen protectors, for a small fee, and that I've had it done there before. He looks at the screen protector that I brought it, which was bought on Amazon but fits my phone, and explains to me like a child that Best Buy absolutely won't install it unless they sold it to me. WRONG. I head to Best Buy and they immediately put it on for me. Took 10 minutes. Verizon stores are as a rule staffed by smarmy, hipster know-it-alls who think they're more intelligent than you because they show older people how to use cell phones. You can count on being condescended to whenever you patronize one. Happened to me at the Vernon Hills store as well a few years ago. But the Lake Bluff location is consistently terrible. Go to Best Buy. You'll get excellent customer service and you can get better deals on phones and plans there anyway.

We had to wait a few extra days for a pre-ordered phones (that the app said was shipped, over-night, and received/signed the next day bur we didn't receive our phones for another three days and I had to call them to see if it had arrived). Then, I had not known there was be additional charges like the 19.95 "Ready 2 Go Set Up - Smartphone" per phone and that was not disclosed to us when we were paying "the taxes" for our phone (that's the only thing said when she said we were paying for when we got our are payment method). We could have easily set up our phone ourselves like we have in the past and saved $40 dollars. The deal we got through them is the exact same we would have got at the home Verizon store. I would have said no to having her set up our phones if I knew there was a charge but she didn't even ask if we wanted to set them up or have her do it (idk if that is policy but I'm not happy about it at all). Like I said, they were very kind employees, but the extra charges and wait time was it worth it when I could have driven 15 minutes down the road instead. *** UPDATE: we went in to talk about everything the next day and have been taken care of. Everything was kindly explained and the charges were taken off because nothing was explained to us prior and if we were aware we would have been able to decline the set up fees and do it ourselves. At the time they were running a promo and I was honestly surprised by the $699 trade in but hey‍ So Nikoy T told her a box would be coming in the mail to send in the trade in and credit her Verizon bill the $699 they were charging putting on it for the new phone. 3 weeks later- no box- so I asked him if he could also check on that. He digs around on her phone FOREVER and finally says- oh I see what happened. She was only getting the $699 if she upgraded to unlimited( she is old she doesn't use much data) I ask her- she wasn't told this. She legit said she has no idea what plan she even has and no one( NICOY T) mentioned anything about her plan at all. So I ask the guy today if I can still do that? I could. It's an extra $30/ month so I decide to wait- she doesn't use more than whatever her current data is- so $30/ month might not be the better option for a $699 trade in. I ask about the trade in value without the plan upgrade. $10. TEN. So I left, mom will have to decide which route to take. AT&T looks pretty good right now. Honestly I just want everyone to know- don't go to this place. They seem very scammy. Either go to the Verizon corporate ( there is one in Kenosha) or just go to ATT. I'm honestly considering switching back to ATT just because of this mess. Just seems all around poor practice. This is only the quick and dirty as well- I could go on. The employee who sat there for 50 and didn't help the person behind me or help me when the guy helping got a bloody nose and went in back for 20 min. She did not know why nor did I when I know my phone was only a month old and it was an unlocked phone. I was there for 3 hours and got no further with her than waiting for the phone to be unlocked. the manager then came instore and by that time, I was angry and frustrated with her. He could not help either and told me to leave and never come back. I came home and called my old carrier and was told it takes a day or two to port over phone number and change carriers. Why did this woman make me wait if she knew that was how long it took? Besides that, she gave me a higher priced plan with Boost which I was able to correct. We were pointed to this location through our phone insurance company, asurion, who provided us a list of locations that fix cracked phone screens for $29. Thankfully we only had a cracked phone screen situation. Of the three locations suggested, we chose the Vernon Hills location based on the great reviews. To make the appointment, we filed a claim and prepaid ahead of time. We were given a specific time to come in, and when we dropped off the phone we filled out a questionnaire to verify the diagnosis. We were told to come back in 1.5 hours. They called us at exactly 1.5 hours to come back and pick up our phone. When we picked up the phone, it was like nothing ever happened. The phone looks brand new, and it is brand new because my son just got the replacement after destroying his other phone two months ago! Take note, they used OEM parts and our phone was replaced with an original Apple screen. The phone repair is under full warranty. The business was clean and orderly, and the process was super duper easy. Nice waiting room with mints and a Keurig coffee machine. The employees were friendly and courteous and did everything they were supposed to do. To this day the phone is working like a champ!

By halfway through the second day, I called them for an update. They said they were working on it. Three hours later, I called again, and they gave me the same answer. This time, they mentioned they were preparing a quote for the repair because the motherboard was damaged and it would cost $750. They explained that they would need to send it out to a specialty shop. However, they assured me they could back up my data, which I requested, and they did manage to do that. When I went to pick up the laptop, I noticed a plastic bag taped to it containing some hardware. I asked what it was, and they informed me it was the SSD (the new type of hard drive) from which they had retrieved my data. They did not reinstall it in the laptop, which I found puzzling, as I intended to take it to a locally owned computer repair shop for a second opinion. Having never opened a computer before, I thought, "What do I have to lose?" So I opened it up and found the connection point to reinstall the SSD. I had to go and buy a small screw to secure it, which they did not return with the SSD. To my surprise, when I turned on the laptop, it worked perfectly! I am not sure what they were doing for three days, other than backing up my data. Honestly, the store name should be changed to "We Break It, You Pay Us, and You Fix It."

I immediately ordered a new phone, which arrived and was activated on the Boost network on 7/6/24. Since then I have not received "short code" SMS messages. Short codes are used by numerous web sites for two-factor authentication. Banks, Amazon, PayPal, Ebay, Samsung, Google, and many other web sites text a five- or six-digit numeric code to your phone when you attempt to log in if two-factor authentication is enabled in your account settings. I've since placed at least a half dozen calls to Boost Mobile technical support in a vain attempt to resolve the problem. I'd estimate the cumulative duration of those calls to be at least 3 to 4 hours, possibly longer. Their technical support personnel seemed to have no idea how to resolve the problem. They directed me to make all sorts of changes to my phone's configuration, most of which could not possibly have anything to do with the problem. They were flailing, telling me to do this, that, and the other thing, none of which had any effect. During my last call to their support line (7/16/24 at approximately 5:00 PM Central time), I demanded to speak to a supervisor. After about 20 minutes on hold I was connected to someone. After explaining the problem and the many failed attempts to resolve it, I asked her to issue a refund for the remaining 9 months on the contract (from 7/22/24 to 4/22/25). Given that I was making the request for no reason other than that Boost Mobile's service was not working as advertised, I thought it was a reasonable request. (I left aside the period from 7/6/24 to 7/16/24, during which time their service did not work as advertised and in accordance with the terms of the contract. I was willing to let that go for the sake of an amicable resolution.) The representative stated no refund could be issued, even as she acknowledged that the problem was on Boost Mobile's end. I'm sure if I examine the fine print of the agreement I'll find that Boost Mobile is not technically, legally required to issue a refund in this circumstance. But that doesn't change the fact that it's fundamentally wrong and bad business practice. If a customer prepays for 12 months of trouble-free service and you can provide only 3 months, you should issue a refund for the remainder. Period. There are dozens of other cellular providers out there. Stay away from Boost Mobile.

The lifetime warranty that is complained about elsewhere is actually a good deal and I've found all locations honor it. It depends on your key fob. I have one in which the battery lasts forever so I didn't get the warranty on that one, but the other fob the battery drains every couple of months or so and this has been totally worth it.
