By halfway through the second day, I called them for an update. They said they were working on it. Three hours later, I called again, and they gave me the same answer. This time, they mentioned they were preparing a quote for the repair because the motherboard was damaged and it would cost $750. They explained that they would need to send it out to a specialty shop. However, they assured me they could back up my data, which I requested, and they did manage to do that. When I went to pick up the laptop, I noticed a plastic bag taped to it containing some hardware. I asked what it was, and they informed me it was the SSD (the new type of hard drive) from which they had retrieved my data. They did not reinstall it in the laptop, which I found puzzling, as I intended to take it to a locally owned computer repair shop for a second opinion. Having never opened a computer before, I thought, "What do I have to lose?" So I opened it up and found the connection point to reinstall the SSD. I had to go and buy a small screw to secure it, which they did not return with the SSD. To my surprise, when I turned on the laptop, it worked perfectly! I am not sure what they were doing for three days, other than backing up my data. Honestly, the store name should be changed to "We Break It, You Pay Us, and You Fix It."

We were pointed to this location through our phone insurance company, asurion, who provided us a list of locations that fix cracked phone screens for $29. Thankfully we only had a cracked phone screen situation. Of the three locations suggested, we chose the Vernon Hills location based on the great reviews. To make the appointment, we filed a claim and prepaid ahead of time. We were given a specific time to come in, and when we dropped off the phone we filled out a questionnaire to verify the diagnosis. We were told to come back in 1.5 hours. They called us at exactly 1.5 hours to come back and pick up our phone. When we picked up the phone, it was like nothing ever happened. The phone looks brand new, and it is brand new because my son just got the replacement after destroying his other phone two months ago! Take note, they used OEM parts and our phone was replaced with an original Apple screen. The phone repair is under full warranty. The business was clean and orderly, and the process was super duper easy. Nice waiting room with mints and a Keurig coffee machine. The employees were friendly and courteous and did everything they were supposed to do. To this day the phone is working like a champ!

Boost Mobile just ripped me off to the tune of $225. On 4/22/24 I paid $300 for 12 months of…read morecellular service ($25 per month). On 7/4/24 I lost my phone. I immediately ordered a new phone, which arrived and was activated on the Boost network on 7/6/24. Since then I have not received "short code" SMS messages. Short codes are used by numerous web sites for two-factor authentication. Banks, Amazon, PayPal, Ebay, Samsung, Google, and many other web sites text a five- or six-digit numeric code to your phone when you attempt to log in if two-factor authentication is enabled in your account settings. I've since placed at least a half dozen calls to Boost Mobile technical support in a vain attempt to resolve the problem. I'd estimate the cumulative duration of those calls to be at least 3 to 4 hours, possibly longer. Their technical support personnel seemed to have no idea how to resolve the problem. They directed me to make all sorts of changes to my phone's configuration, most of which could not possibly have anything to do with the problem. They were flailing, telling me to do this, that, and the other thing, none of which had any effect. During my last call to their support line (7/16/24 at approximately 5:00 PM Central time), I demanded to speak to a supervisor. After about 20 minutes on hold I was connected to someone. After explaining the problem and the many failed attempts to resolve it, I asked her to issue a refund for the remaining 9 months on the contract (from 7/22/24 to 4/22/25). Given that I was making the request for no reason other than that Boost Mobile's service was not working as advertised, I thought it was a reasonable request. (I left aside the period from 7/6/24 to 7/16/24, during which time their service did not work as advertised and in accordance with the terms of the contract. I was willing to let that go for the sake of an amicable resolution.) The representative stated no refund could be issued, even as she acknowledged that the problem was on Boost Mobile's end. I'm sure if I examine the fine print of the agreement I'll find that Boost Mobile is not technically, legally required to issue a refund in this circumstance. But that doesn't change the fact that it's fundamentally wrong and bad business practice. If a customer prepays for 12 months of trouble-free service and you can provide only 3 months, you should issue a refund for the remainder. Period. There are dozens of other cellular providers out there. Stay away from Boost Mobile.

That time, the associate suggested I opt for their "KITWATCHLIFE" service, a lifetime battery replacement for that specific watch, for $21.99 plus tax. It was only about $9 more than a standard battery replacement, so I figured that if I used it just one more time, I would come out ahead. I was told all I would need to do in the future was provide my phone number. I saved my receipt, just in case. Fast forward to today, I returned for another battery replacement. The store was empty except for one associate, Samantha. At first, she seemed hesitant, not because she didn't want to honor the lifetime service, but because she was concerned about damaging an expensive watch. She mentioned that if the watch was worth more than $150, they might instead offer to refund the lifetime service fee or transfer it to a different watch. I told her the battery had already been replaced twice there without issue. She decided to proceed and, to my surprise, replaced the battery in just a few minutes, much faster than previous visits. In the end, I definitely got my money's worth. If you have a watch that isn't particularly expensive, I think this is a good program to consider at Batteries Plus. Just be aware that some staff might be cautious if your watch is on the pricier side.

I visited this location to return Amazon items using prepaid labels and boxes. Upon entering the store, I was completely ignored by the manager, who bypassed me without acknowledgment to assist a Caucasian woman who entered after me. He did not say "excuse me" or offer any explanation. I was forced to wait until another customer--whom I was already ahead of--finished before I was finally assisted. When I handed over my three return packages, the boxes were not taped. The manager informed me that I would be charged to tape them. When I asked for the cost, he stated it would be $2 for one box. However, when I presented two additional (slightly larger) boxes, he said the charge would be different. When I asked him to clearly explain the pricing per box, he began stating different amounts with no clear pricing structure or explanation. I found this extremely offensive and unprofessional. These were prepaid returns with prepaid boxes, and I was being asked to pay arbitrary amounts for a single piece of tape. There was no clear policy communicated as to how the charges were determined. How does one piece of tape cost $2, while another costs $4? The pricing appeared to be made up on the spot. I chose UPS despite having other drop-off options, yet I was treated poorly and made to feel uncomfortable. I also want to express concern about what appeared to be discriminatory behavior. This is not the first negative experience I've had at this particular location, which is why I previously stopped patronizing it. Unfortunately, due to being in a hurry, I returned and experienced similar treatment again. I ultimately felt pressured into purchasing your shipping tape for $8, which I also find excessive, but I did so just to complete my return and leave the situation.
