As a home-owner in the nearby South End for more than 40-years, I've had my share of plumbing and…read moreheating problems over those decades. And I've learned (because I've had to learn) how to fix or replace the occasional faucet set, garbage disposal and Taco heating zone valve which inevitably fail. My go to store has been Ace Plumbing Supply for all those years. Physically, it is the most unprepossessing place to look at, housed in a windowless, single story, brick warehouse-like structure on a dreary, industrial stretch of Mass Ave. You walk into a cluttered space with a haphazard assortment of plumbing and heating merchandise and are immediately greeted by genuinely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Once you explain your problem, the staff member knows exactly what you need, finds the parts, patiently walks you through the fix, and sends you on your way. Try doing that in one of the Big Box stores that every one thinks about when it comes to home repairs. Even more astonishing, Ace P&S is almost always just a little less expensive than Home Depot which is less than a mile away. You are likely to spend less time in Ace P&S for the entire experience than you will waiting in the check-out line at Home Depot. In this place, the customer is king. I've had this experience over and over again during the last 40-years. I'm not a plumber or a trades person, and I probably only go there a few times each year; but I've always been treated as if my particular problem is just as important as someone whose livelihood depends on it. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself. This place is a throwback to a great era most of us don't believe exists anymore. It's the real thing, and it's terrific.

Went in on Saturday, March 30th to order the cedar. He told my Husband, he'd call him Monday with a quote and we should be able to have it by Wednesday. Monday came and went without a call. My husband called on Monday at 4:00 was assured he'd get a call by 9:00 am on Tuesday to let us know the price and what he could get us. No guarantees we could get it all in 6' lengths. We still haven't gotten a call back. No worries! They ended up saving us money by not calling us. My husband went to Watertown for a job and stopped in at F.D Sterrit Lumber Company. They had just sold all the cedar they had, but ordered us some 6' lengths and it is ready for pick up just 3 days later and they called!!

We came here for our kitchen counter tops and were immediately impressed with the professionalism that comes from Natalia. They have a very good selection in store, and the prices are very reasonable. Not the lowest, but much cheaper than most places we looked at. Natalia directed us to many warehouses to pick our counter top. Once we picked the granite she handled everything and had the piece moved to the factory in Everett (the main branch). There, we met John, who was the person who does all the installation. He was extremely nice, friendly, helpful, and professional. He even picked a fantastic remnant for our window top that has since become our favorite piece! There was a minor hiccup along the way - they cut out the wrong shape for our sink.. but luckily for us, they had another piece. If that was the last piece.. I might have had a different review. So I would advise everyone to follow up and confirm details every step of the way (for all granite places, not just here). Even with that though, they still did a fantastic job. Everything looks amazing and you can barely see the seam in the kitchen. I highly recommend.

Warning: Extreme patience required This company has major…read morecommunication problems, both internally and with customers. The woman who works in the store is sweet and courteous, but she is dependent on the guy in charge, John, for information and he doesn't seem to check the schedule or answer his phone. If your counter tops are ready, or if they have a question, or a problem, do not expect them to call you. You will have to call them. I was told by Milly, an efficient young woman who first won my business, that my estimate would be ready the next day. Three weeks later, I still didn't have an estimate and Milly didn't seem to work there any longer. After I left several messages I found out that they had to come back and check measurements. This happens ... but were they ever planning to call me??? On several occasions, I wasted whole days waiting for these folks to show up. Once they didn't show at all. For installation, they told me they'd come between 10-12. At 11:30 I received a call that they'd be about an hour late, but they didn't show up until 3:30. Then there were several glitches. John also suggested I replace my window sill with granite. Well ... no one accounted for the fact that removing the existing sill would leave holes on the sides and beneath my window. The guys came back and added a short back splash, but they left holes under the window and on one side. I had to have someone plaster over these places. Perhaps this was my misjudgement in part, but no one explained it to me. Also, I got a new sink. I asked three times if I needed a plumber and was told I didn't. Well, guess what? I did and still do. Two weeks later I'm still trying to get an appointment. I would have scheduled a plumber in advance if I had known. So, when the granite guys disconnected my sink, they neglected to close a valve which resulted in a leak in the basement below my condo which I was very lucky didn't result in the condo association charging me. Finally, there is a a language barrier. The guys who came to my house were nice and polite, but were not fluent in English. Some didn't seem to speak it at all. I don't have a problem with this ... as long as someone communicates clearly, which was not the case. In the end, the granite does look great but the it was a very stressful and drawn out experience.

They do good work at this nice little shop in downtown Concord, and because they're one of the few places around that specialize in what they do, it's popular. I'd say the main drawback is the parking, which can be tricky as it's right in Concord Center. Sometimes you have to circle the block a few times for a spot, and when you're carrying a floor lamp or a bulky box, the closer the better, so parking far away isn't ideal. Also, the shop is tiny, and hard to move around in, so I prefer to go right when they open at 10am to avoid crowds. They don't provide written estimates or quotes, they just verbally give you a number, which I don't like, especially when I had to send an estimate to an Etsy seller for reimbursement for repairs on a lamp that broke during shipping. I had to wait until after I had paid to send the receipt, which wasn't great. I will say that their estimates are typically in the range they initially provide, with the exception of one repair that ended up costing more than expected.
