The people of Manitowoc are fortunate to have many fine parks in the city. Silver Creek Park is no…read moreexception. There is a very nice disc golf course that meanders through the woods. The lighthouse hole is the hole from hell. If you overshoot the net, your frisbee could easily end up in the lake. I have fond memories of this park from when I was a kid. We used to go to the south end of the park and shoot our 22 rifles. But this is a different age, don't try to do that these days. Silver Creek has the best beaches in Manitowoc. It has areas that are wild enough to do some serious birding. I find it a bit amusing that people have stopped playing disc golf. They are now obsessed with Pokemon Go, so the park is very quiet these days. But today I picked up a bag of trash. Apparently "Swinus Americanus" (my name for litter bugs) are still present there. Red Bull cans, and broken bottles on the beach. It always mystifies me why "people" trash out places of beauty; and what kind of knuckledragger breaks glass on a beach? All that aside, this is a premier park. It is a wonderful place to spend a few peaceful hours. It is surprisingly unused, or, at least, underused. Take a picnic, lay out on the beach and, if you're brave enough, swim in the lake (brrr!). Did I mention that I saw a hooded merganser today where Silver Creek meets Lake Michigan...nice.

I have been to this store many times, always had a positive experience until today. I walked in and…read morewas greeted by the typical "can I help you find something?" I said no just looking. As I am looking through all the games and trying to find ones that I have on my wishlist that I have pulled up on my phone I was suddenly asked "do you plan on making money off of me?" I was shocked that a store owner actually assumed I was looking for games just to turn around and sell them for a higher price. I kind of shrugged the comment off just thinking this guy is a total asshole. After awhile I had found some games I wanted to buy, I gave him the games to hold on to as I continued to shop. One of the games I handed him to purchase had a price sticker of $20 on it. I wasn't aware of how much it was worth but he came back and said "I double check the price of each game I sell and this one is worth $50 so I'm changing the price to $50 because I see your on Pricecharting.com checking the prices as well." (Pricecharting.com is a website that tells you what the average price of a game is worth.) I asked him "so every game in your store that has a price tag on it is not the accurate price since you change prices at the time of checkout." He answered YES. I mentioned his policy is just wrong and he was an ass and walked out without buying anything. I will never step foot in this store again. Sad thing is I've been going to this store every time I come up to Manitowoc, WI. and have found good stuff and spent a good amount of money at his store purchasing games for my collection but never again. Being asked if I was there to "make money off of him", assuming I was a reseller and randomly changing prices on inventory while checking out is not a place I would like to visit and support ever again, so he can take his STOCKPILE of GAMES and shove it up his greedy ass.

It's unlike any Kohls or other modern department store. Wood floors, over 100 year old wood floors with character that have a vintage feel and an ever so faint creak from them. Neatly organized shelves and racks of clothes with a wide variety to choose from. They have a yarn department,'book department, men's, women's, shoes, gifts, and in the basement Toys! My lovely bride almost had to drag me from the book department as I was on a shopping spree. Then it was on to the men's shoe department that was well stocked and had knowledgeable staff. Most importantly, it's a traditional shoe department, that provides a customer with Service. Not rows of boxes, that you fumble through and serve yourself. Have a seat, the clerks comes to you and asks how can they help? They go in the back and return with boxes of shoes for you to try on. What a very patient and knowledgeable staff! I returned the following day and the fit perfectly, On the Yelp review it prompts: Amazing! What went well!; one choice is Value. Stock on hand, able to be tried on, friendly and knowledgeable staff and from my perspective that adds considerable value. They even offer a Frequent Shopper Program that I signed up for. It's not a card or computer program, a sheet of paper with your names, boxes to be handwritten in with your purchases and then a 10% reward. Schroeder's nailed it with Service, Selection and Value! Highly recommended and worth the trip.
