Driving through Two Rivers, on our way to stay at Still Bend (the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Bernard Schwartz house), I saw the big Schroeder's Department Store sign...and could not believe that there was still an independent department store that was still open. I knew that we had a pay a visit while in town. What a great experience! Schroeder's has been open since 1891. While I loved learning about their history...it's a great place to shop. Schroeder's has a coffee house, men's and women's clothing, a yarn shop, bookstore, a toy store, souvenirs and all sorts of other merchandise. I bought a few books and a pair of moccasin slippers. My friends bought t-shirts and a puzzle. The people working the store were helpful, friendly and truly passionate about Schroeder's history. This is a store that has managed to stay true to its heritage, but stay relevant. If you're in the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area, Schroeder's Department Store is a must stop kind of place. I go way back with this great store. When I was but a lad, my father took me here to buy clothing and shoes. Always had the best quality. Today this is still a nice place to get quality stuff to wear. Schroeder's has been in business for 132 years. You don't stay in business that long without being at the top of the game. Besides clothing and footwear the store has expanded to including gift items and souvenirs of the area. There is also a nice coffee shop that privides good coffee and good tea along with bakery and other treats. There's a lot of inferior clothing out there. If you are looking for quality, it would behoove you to check this place out. read more

My husband and I were just in Two Rivers for a birthday party at the Bernard Schwartz House and originally just stopped in to get coffee. We decided to have a look around and were greeted by a sales associate, Dean. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the department store and the town. He provided beyond excellent customer service and made this a very enjoyable shopping trip! read more

If you've seen my Red Bank Coffee review you already know I love this place. Schroeder's has been in business for 127 years! Fifth generation owned. That in it's self is impressive. I personally don't like shopping, but I do like this place. The history, love and passion envelops you as soon as you walk through the door. The history of the building can be observed everywhere you look. One might think okay, an old department store, but they would be mistaken. There are several stores and a coffee shop (Red Bank) inside the main store. Somehow they made it work without being too busy or over crowded. There is an educational toy store on the lower level just past the "bubbler", quilting and classes on the upper level, and on the main level is woman's clothing, a shoe department (they still tie the box closed with a string just like it's always been done and measure your feet with a Brannock devise), men's clothing (relaxed and business), and tux rentals. If you're a tourist wanting to buy a few souvenirs, they even have a department for that. I almost forgot the home decor store located next to the coffee shop and a UPS drop off. A little insider tip: I bought something on line that had to be returned. I brought it there and I received a coupon for $5 off anything in the store. Smart! That's the kind of detail and attention that wins me, the non-shopper, over! Before you leave the store make sure to check out the map, and place a pin from where you live. You'll be surprised at all the places people who have stopped are from. There is so much more I could say about this place, but you need to see it and experience it for yourself. Nice place to shop, the coffee bar is awesome. Need to have more kids clothing and shoe selections, as there is nothing there now. For a "Department" store all they really have is men and women's attire. The Apple toy store downstairs is nice but a bit over-priced. read more
