I've been coming here every few weeks when the noodle craving hits. It's a rather plain space, which is no bad thing, simple two and four seat tables and some pleasant prints on the walls. First off, the food is excellent. Hot, authentic, spiced to taste and plentiful. If you go for a noodle dish and a main course, you'll be struggling to finish. I've jumped around the menu a fair bit, though I often settle on the house special Szechuan noodles, with a well filled spring roll to start. Recently I tried the Cantonese noodles, which were quite superb, with plenty of pork, chicken and shrimp. Beware having a soup for starters though, you get a small swimming pool, clearly designed for more than one diner. Service varies, depending on who's on, but at worst it's functional and efficient. The restaurant is just located at the commercial center of Bedford, so it is pretty easy to reach. I would say that the dishes are OK, although 2/3 of the spicy soup is filled by bean sprouts at the bottom, and the pork is a bit more salty than I expected. The restaurant does not accept American Express cards, although this payment method does appear on the American Express map in Canada. Anyway, it's not a bad choice if you want to seek authentic Chinese food in the Bedford area. But if you could spend some more time and head over to downtown Halifax, I'm sure that you can definitely find more cost-effective options. read more

This tiny restaurant has been in Bedford for quite some time now, and it is flat-out the best Chinese food I've ever had. The mushu pork is what takeout dreams are made of, the spring rolls are crisp- never soggy, and the house rice is deliciously spicy and textured with many ingredients. The dish prices are great for ordering for a large group, but I recommend getting two combos with your friend/date so you can try tons of dishes. The only downside is Szechaun is SLOW. Often there is one server manning cash and the dining room, so during busy takeout hours it takes a long time to be served. I have often waited 10-20 extra minutes for my takeout, but honestly it is worth it. read more

We asked for everything to be very hot. They gave us everything very hot. Seems like a simple enough equation, but often in Nova Scotia, a restaurant's idea of "spicy" does not come close to mine. Many places play it safe, but not Szechaun Restaurant! I had to ask for extra napkins for my tears and runny nose, which was exactly what I was looking for. We especially liked the Szechuan House Noodles and the Twice-Cooked Pork. The wait for the food to come was long, but (mostly) forgotten when we started eating. Really good and spicy hot , I think its one of the best in metro. If you want authentic fresh made food this is it!! On the down side , it is never ready when they say it will be. If you are looking for a decent Canadian-Chinese combo plate, this place has you covered. Their chicken balls were very large with delicious batter. The spare ribs were succulent and the sauces were great. Even the rice was better than most places. The price was fair as well. I'm not sure how their more authentic fare holds up but I would definitely like to go for hot pot. We got take out...which I'm glad we did. Food is okay, but greasy and not a lot of meat in dishes. But my serious concern is that they can't seem to give you all you paid for on a consistent basis. They always leave things out of the order, and it's always the most expensive thing. Last time it was the battered shrimps. Found a long black hair in an egg roll. Needless to say it ruined an expensive takeout supper and made it totally disgusting to eat the rest of the food. Phoned the restaurant to complain but they would not accept any responsibility, told me to take it up with Skip the Dishes and offered me a free egg roll on my next order. I will never eat at this restaurant again and would not recommend anyone else does. I get it that businesses are struggling but to be so unapologetic and have such disregard for customer satisfaction, not to mention health and safety is unacceptable. My first experience at this restaurant was a good one. We were promptly greeted and seated. Service was quick and friendly. Our food arrived quickly and was steaming hot. And it was tasty as well as being reasonably priced. The dining room itself was comfortable and clean; just enough decor to remind you you're in a Chinese restaurant without being over the top or kitschy. If you like your Chinese food hot and spicy, this is the place to go. While the decor is pretty sparse, the dishes are not. Take-out is actually my preferred option. Was disgusted and staff said it was normal and offered no apology or recourse. Food wasn't great either, definitely not worth the wait. Today is my boyfriend's birthday so we decided to go back to this restaurant to have supper. This restaurant was sentimental to us because we had our first meal here on our first date. Once we walked into the restaurant, I already got bad feelings. A girl standing behind the counter (let's call her A) was obviously talking on phone, and she pulled out two fingers waving at us. After a few seconds, I realized what she meant so I nodded because it's quite a distance between the door and the counter. She didn't say anything to us or even make eye contact or smile (am I too demanding?), only pointed at a table. When we were hesitating, she pointed at the table again and shouted "that table". We sat down and after five mins or so, the girl (A) came over and put down two menus very hard on the table and pulled away very abruptly two sets of extra knifes / forks without saying anything. After another five mins or so, another girl (let's call her B) who seemed nicer came over to help us order. We ordered three dishes and a mid-size rice. After waiting for another 30 mins, the first dish came. After the next 10 mins, the other two dishes came which were very spicy hot dishes and normal diners would enjoy them with rice. The girl (A) put down the two dishes, and said in a very rush tone that I heard "you have to wait for your rice for 2 mins okay?" Before we reacted, she already walked away. I thought she said 2 mins, but my boyfriend heard 15 mins. I couldn't believe we had to wait for 15 mins for the rice while all dishes were already on the table and getting cold. We asked girl (B) when she was walking by our table if it was true we had to wait for the rice for another 15 mins. She said yes. No one ever came to apologize or offer anything at all to complement for the inconvenience. After 18 mins the rice finally came without being fully cooked. Girl (A) came to collect the plates when my boyfriend was still working on the dishes. We are very disappointed of the service. It's so sad we have to cross it off our eating out list. The menu there is very pricy considering the small serving size. Being treated like that, I won't recommend it to anyone that I know. read more

I've been to this place so many times since it first opened I believe. But lately everything has changed. I always get the noodles which are good and the Kun po chicken. However I noticed that The customer service sucks at the place. Last time I went, I got charged extra because I picked the take out late (5min late).
