I stopped into this Chinese food restaurant for lunch on the weekend and had a chicken ball combo. The meals were reasonably priced. I think I paid around $11 for a can of Pepsi and my meal. I normally go to Look Ho Ho on Bayers Road so I'm used to eating their egg rolls and these ones as May Garden didn't even come close to comparing to theirs. The waitress barely spoke English but was nice. I asked for garlic sauce to put on my rice and she just nodded her head and smiled. I didn't get my sauce, but I survived. read more

I arrived with a party of 5 at 6:30 PM with a reservation. The hostess sat us originally at a round table , almost in the foyer/route to the kitchen. It was an awkward place to be seated, so I requested another table. The next table she put us at had glaring sunlight in everyones eyes , to the extent we ended up asking to move again. At this point, the server was acting as if it was an inconvenience to her to have us comfortable. After about 20 minutes of waiting for the hostess to return, someone in my party asked if we could have beverages. Up until then, no one had even come by to offer us water. The hostess snarked and said "We take drink and food orders at the same time here!". This is ridiculous - any reasonable place should at least bring water while you are looking through the menu. The food was mediocre - standard westernized chinese food. The ginger beef had too much sugar in it and gosh knows whats in the egg rolls. I like to call this style of egg roll the mystery mushy meat eggroll. Overall, the server made this place awful. Her table service and attitude was not acceptable, even for an average chinese food place. read more

Whether you want to sit down and have a meal, or grab some for dinner at home. May garden has THE best egg rolls you can ever have. I love the food from this place! Always plenty of rice and there are no chicken balls anywhere that taste As good I swear. Love there prices, especially at lunch time when they have specials up. I did have have a rude server last time I was there, who ignored me and my boyfriend and never did bring over my drink, but I have had other servers who are wonderful and take great care of you. May Gardens seems have been around for a long time. I went here the other day with some co-workers for lunch. Bummer was the AC was broke and it was on our heat wave day, Wednesday. Aside from that, the food was excellent. It was a little slow in getting to us, but worth the wait. We had the lunch specials. The plates came packed actually overflowing with food. The egg-rolls was crisp, meat egg roll, I guess they are famous for their egg rolls. The chicken balls were some of the best I have had, my friend was over the top for the rice, she said it was the best she had tasted, I have to agree with her. The chow mien was fresh and crisp. The Almond Chicken Soo Guy was a little overdone. The interior has nice booths with tables in the middle. The typical Chinese decor, reds and gold colours surround you. The staff was nice given the fact that they were extremely hot with the temperature in the restaurant as well. They did have two fans going, but that did not help too much. Good food. We ordered a few dishes: We ordered Eggrolls, Sweat & sour chicken, beef & broccoli, May Garden Fried Rice (this is a favourite of ours, it has chicken, pork & shrimp), Chicken chow mein, and almond sui gai. The waitress forgot our chow mein and it wasn't until the end of the meal that we realized it was missing, so we didn't bother saying anything as it didn't appear on our bill either. The entire hour we were in there we were the only customers in the dining area, which was a bit outdated and dreary. We originally went in for Dim Sum, but after we got there, it didn't look like Dim Sum was even going to be offered at this location. The food was good, but it was served luke warm and it came out of the kitchen really quick, which would normally be a good thing, but given the temperature, I wouldn't be surprised if it was all pre-made and just scooped up out of a pot. It definitely wasn't pipping hot with steam coming from it. The dishes were served on plates, not in serving dishes with lids, so the serving size was smaller than what we would normally get at the Chinese restaurant we normally frequent. read more

Ordered 75.00 of Chinese food. Honey garlic ribs were far from fresh. dried , old and absolutely disgusting. Spring rolls were not fresh, watery . Chicken balls were all batter.Vegetables and rice were not fresh in combination plates. Will never order this disgusting food from May Garden ever again. Who do do think you are kidding? From a customers point of view, this will always be one of my favorites! Best Ginger fried beef, Singapore noodles and eggrolls in my opinion! Just make sure you check to make sure they didnt forget anything. from a former employees point of view, shitty to work for unless your already friends with the owner or something. clean kitchen but I hated working there. Got a phone call one day from one of the waitresses telling me I was fired because I apparently stole money from the till? a f**king ridiculous and serious accusation without and proof (probably should have went to the labor board, but I was a teenager and didnt know better)......not to mention the god damn owner didnt call me himself, which im also sure is breaking the law or some rule in forced through the labor board... so yeah.....great food, but be careful if you work there or want to work there....... read more

Me and my boyfriend always go here for Chinese food and it's absolutely superb! We usually get our orders taken within 5 minutes and delivered to us between 5-10 minutes of sitting down. It's like sit down take out because it's usually that fast, and it's always fresh and we've never had problems with the food. read more

I think I could have happily moved into this restaurant in my University days, I ate here so often. And for good reason: tasty, filling food that is quite affordable and plentiful portions. So... the egg rolls. Definitely tasty even though they were of the pasty-inside variety (not my favourite) - but nicely crisp on the outside. The chicken chow mein (and the shrimp chow mein) was just the right amount of crunchy and there was a considerable amount of food for the price we paid. Gotta give the edge in sweet and sour chicken and rice to Yan's Restaurant though - the batter on the chicken was a bit dense and soft and the rice had a bit of a metallic taste. Nothing to stop me from getting takeout here again except my hard-core addiction to Yan's egg rolls. read more

One of the best places for Chinese food in Sackville! Love the meat egg rolls always stuffed to the max and the beef fried rice hasn't been dry yet! Haven't tried anything here I haven't liked yet. This place used to be the be-all-end-all of Chinese take-out in Sackville... 15-20 years ago. Over the years, and through new ownership, the quality has gone way downhill. Guy Ding is 90% onions and celery. I've ordered the Bo Lo Guy Pan off the Chef's Specials and gotten 2 water chestnuts and no bamboo shoots. Either inattention or cheapness. The one thing they do well (the only reason I ever order here anymore instead of exclusively from a competitor 2 minutes away) is Ginger Fried Chicken. Was Definitely the best Chinese food my husband ever brought home for a surprise supper! We had just moved to the area last September and were missing our regular treat. Not anymore, in fact it was by far the best we've ever had! The egg rolls are different from any we've ever had anywhere. And to die for. Same for the beef rice, no doubt all the rice dishes. The S&S chicken balls 5 stars, awesome & full of chicken , with just right amount of covering ( dough) not too much sauce and looks a nice normal color , not bright red. And the mix veg was perfect , not over cooked . All was perfect. Since then we've had take out several times and been there for the amazing lunch specials. Taking mom tonight , it's her 2nd time and first choice to go eat out. The restaurant is lovely , clean and comfy. The service was always great. And this is a real plus! We can order one of the main dishes and share. When eat in we have enough take home for lunch next day. And we're not small eaters per se! read more

Terrible food and over priced. They didn't have vegetable spring rolls so we ordered meat, tasted like dog food inside. The portions were overall small and nothing to write home about. Ribs were super small with little meat, the container was filled with mostly sauce. The rice was good but not big enough. We ordered from here because long dragon was on vacation... They told me that they were 45 mins behind after waiting an hour they found it under the counter where it was the whole time. 100 bucks for cold bland food. I should have just left. We just moved to the HRM and we were completely spoiled by the Chinese food I our last place. That's the only reason why I gave it 4 stars. This was still the best chinese food we've had so far. It was recommended by a friend. When I saw the average of 3 stars on yelp I wondered what I would get. I've had better Chinese but not in Halifax. Good food, fast. It was take out so I have no idea about the service. It was way better than Long Dragon and that had 4.5 stars so it makes me wonder... Worth a shot. Try it. read more

I have been going to may gardens for quite some time now. I like their food most of the time but, have had a couple of problems with my order on occasion. The first time I was missing an ingredient and they replaced it the next time I was there. The second time was yesterday. I had a friend pick up my order for me as I am unable to drive temporarily. When I received the food I was very disappointed. They failed to put any sauce on the sweet and sour chicken balls. I could not eat them dry so they have gone in the garbage. My greatest disappointment was when I called to tell them what happened their solution was to give me an order of sweet and sauce the next time I came in if I did not want to drive back to the restaurant with the order. My friend did not want to drive back and since I was not able to that was not an option. Very disappointed. I feel they should have credited me by replacing the chicken WITH the sauce on my next order. Unfortunately, if I get poor service then there will not be a next order. I would not recommend them for this reason. I have been a regular customer but, will be switching back to my previous favorite restaurant.
