Here again as I heard they were closing- I ordered a few things but the disappointment was honey garlic spareribs as they looked quite dry - I'm hoping the rest of the meal is good considering- Everything was great I just wish there was more honey garlic sauce with the spareribs and only 6 with the dinner-that's probably the norm I'm not sure but they were still good- The chop suey/ curry beef and famous eggs rolls were lovely! I hope to order more egg rolls at least before closing! read more

Silver Dragon Restaurant - Combo, about 10 bucks - Chinese Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

See all

As you know Silver Dragons in one of my Favorite's. Close to work and a good place to eat. Not feeling the best I went in for something to eat as my friend told me to go and get some Wong ton soup to make me feel better. So off I go. I know Ping very well as I am there all the time laughing at the counter with her about various things. I asked her what the soup was like and she explained, noodles with beef, I then asked is there Curry in it, nope. So as she comes out from the back holding my little brown bag she winks and tells me she put some spice in it for me. Well to die for! Got back to work and actually called her to thanked her as it was delicious and I felt alot better. If you go ask Ping to spice it up like Cheryl's... read more

Silver Dragon Restaurant - the front of the restaurant - Chinese Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

Best Chinese food in Halifax hands down. So many different combos. Way more vegetarian options than any other Chinese restaurant in Halifax. (GF is vegetarian). Also, the waitress is so friendly and is just as much worth going for as the food! read more

Here is a list of a few non-biased facts about our meal. 1. This "Chinese Food" restaurant does not offer chopsticks. 2. It all tasted like it came out of a package. 3. There was a hair in chowmein. 4. We ordered a noodle dish which came with no noodles. 5. Even the steamed rice was bland. 6. Answered the phone by just saying "yes" I won't be heading back, but to each their own. read more

Good foods, good service Liked the dishes each time dining in Silver Dragon Restaurant ... Keep up your good job

I normally get takeout from Silver Dragon - usually as part of a group order. I've tried a few different dishes, and my favourite is the orange chicken. It's so tasty with just the right amount of heat to balance the sweet. The egg rolls are good here too, and the portion sizes are generous. Definitely satisfies my lunch time Chinese craving. It's my favourite Chinese restaurant in the area around my office, beating out Jeans and Look Ho Ho. I've eaten in on a couple occasions with a fair-size group, and the service has been excellent. read more

This is a pretty decent Chinese food restaurant. They've got good prices, decent food, and large portions. Put that all together and what do you get? Full... and for cheap. I find that Chinese restaurants can swing either way. They are either delicious or they make me sick. Some places use the dreaded MSG, which makes the food taste fine, but also makes me feel disgusting afterwards. I can always tell which places use MSG and Silver Dragon isn't one of them. I don't feel icky and sickly when I've finished eating here, which makes Silver Dragon pretty great. I think I'd rather take-out from Silver Dragon then eat inside. It's not that they don't have a nice interior, but it seems to be rather full sometimes and therefore a little noisy. I guess that just means people like to eat there... which can't be a bad thing! read more

One of the first things I do when I move to a new city is find the best Chinese take away. After lots of restaurants and a few extended belt loops, I found Silver Dragon. I've tried other places, but I keep coming back to this one. The portions are huge and the prices are sensible. The ginger beef is fantastic! When we order, we like to get alternate combos so our taste buds can reap the rewards. Sadly, my jeans may not say the same. Nevertheless, this has become my neighborhood favorite. As far as delivery times go, it's fairly standard;however, if you're willing to go pick up your order, the longest you''ll have to wait is 20-25 minutes. Make sure you ask for the fortune cookies-they don't automatically add them to your order. read more

With the death of other nearby eateries, there was one, a beacon of deliciousness in amongst the shops and TV station... Enter Silver Dragon. While the decor is tacky, it's charmingly so. A small, humble joint slinging some fine chinese food. There was only one server, so receiving the order took some time, but with food that fresh, it was totally worth the wait. It's pretty hard to go wrong with a lunch combo, packing in good portions for a decent price. read more

This review has come a couple years late but none the less, its time I gave back to the silver dragon what it deserves. I got take away from this restaurant for around 1 and a half years. I came from a different part of the world and wasn't sure whether my palate would handle the more authentic flavor's that this restaurant had to offer. But oh my was I wrong, at first I started simple - Fried rice noodles with beef (since this is apparently a dish that is simple to order but a true test of one's cooking skills) and lets just say I stopped right there. It was amazing, the beef wasn't over cooked nor was it pink to the point that you could see drops of crimson. Mind you even though I ordered take away for those 1 and a half years, never did I get noodles that were over cooked or sticking together. The dish was full of flavor but neither of them was so overwhelming that you couldn't tell what the other flavor was. The bean sprouts were fresh and you could taste the farmers market in them (well not literally but that's what it felt like). The right amount of soy sauce was added and there was a very light hint of garlic at the end of the bite. After a couple of times I decided to try the other items on the menu and again I wasn't disappointed, not only I but my friends became fans of the silver dragon and we placed orders every other week night, especially during exam times. With all this being said, I would like to let the other people reading this review that the only way you know you are eating good food is when you don't need to add things into the food once it has been served to you. This is what the silver dragon was all about - they never went wrong in their flavor or the ingredients. read more

I've heard nothing but amazing things about Silver Dragon from just about everyone. Being a huge fan of hole in the wall Chinese spots I was excited to try it. I've been here twice now. The first time was at Christmas time I saw their lunch special for $7.50. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, egg roll and rice. It was a while ago but I remember the sweet and sour chicken sauce being watery and the egg roll being soggy. I tried this place again the other day, I remember thinking "I know I was here once... I don't recall it being good, I wonder why." I've since converted to vegetarianism so I figured I could give it another shot trying the vegetarian dishes. The reason they get two stars is because the lunch menu has great variety and the menu has lots of good veggie options. I opted for the spicy mixed veggies, spring roll and rice... The mixed veggies were sad, flavorless and a bit mushy. The spring roll was okay, greasy and crispy but nothing to really write home about. The rice was the real disappointment, starchy, flavorless and all stuck together, it lacked soy sauce or things like green onions I see most places use. The price was right and it was a great big portion. I'd like to come back to try some of the other veggie dishes, they have a lot of dishes you don't see often. read more

Tried this spot for the first time a few weeks ago. Really disappointed in the General Tao chicken. This was not a normal General Tao, the flavour was way off and mushy. The rice was good and the chicken balls were full. The fried wontons were different but good. The Singapore noodles were also actually pretty good. The beef and broccoli wasn't very good. It was very bland. It was a little pricey. Not saying it was bad but it wasn't good. I'd consider trying it again eventually. read more

I am frankly disappointed with the quality of this Chinese food. We ordered takeout tonight and it took well over an hour to even make it to the door. The pork had absolutely no flavour and the broccoli was soggy by the time we ate it. Would not recommend read more

Oh yeah! Hole in the wall, classic Western style Chinese food done right! From the 70's decor, to the classically simple and inexpensive menu options, the Silver Dragon is a very fun experience. But the kicker? The food is wicked too! I don't eat Chinese food too often (mainly because I'm too picky), but this place is great. They got everything just right, and the staff are super friendly as well! I will be back for sure! read more

Good food, decent portions. If you sit in to eat, beware... The service is sooooo slow. We waited 15 mins before even getting asked about drinks. I would recommend this place for take out only. read more

There was 5 of us for lunch for this trip. We order a variety of dishes, a few Schewan dishes (chicken) (my favorite) and of course the Singapore noodles,(extra spicy, no shrimp) We actually ended up having to order a second plate of them. They seemed to have been the" Hot" item on the table. Your portions are a good size and they usually have a lunch plate. It was busy, waitress was great, food was hot, seems to be a favorite for the locals, I saw a lot of workers from a nearby business. Good food. read more

Nothing earth shaking. Good food, good portions. Their spring rolls are pretty good. They have a small selection of Vietnamese dishes listed under healthy choices in their menu. They make good Singapore noodles. read more

Tried it for first time tonight. Local spot. Delivered on time by a personable, articulate, presentable chap who made a great first impression. Chow main was a bit bland. Sweet and sour pork was pretty standard. Egg rolls were tasty. Big portions, pretty standard pricing. I'll go back in good time. read more

Gross! If you must go, do not order the vermicelli with tofu and "vegetables." You will get soggy lettuce, on bland noodles with some tofu, and a container of really really really salty fishy sauce that is equally disgusting. Hot and sour soup comes with chunks of smelly pork. Avoid this place. read more

I'd probably give this place a 2.5...feeling a bit generous with the 3. Never thought to stop in here before, since Halifax has many Chinese restaurants that have always been more convenient for me. But on a drizzly Thursday evening in September, I was in the area trying to kill a couple of hours, and hungry, gave it a shot. There was only one other table taken when I walked in. There's a counter/bar to your immediate left, a few booths to your right, and another room to the far right, with various sized tables & booths for small or larger groups. The place overall isn't that big though. Very basic decor. Two tables hadn't been cleared of their dishes yet, but I guess it wasn't a rush, since it wasn't busy. The sole female server/hostess was friendly enough. I couldn't decide between two entrees, so was terrible and ordered two, with plans on a doggie bag in advance. The No. 18 vegetarian combo ($10.50) ok. The spring roll it included came on a small plate in advance of the other items. Basic, tasty, very hot, with a little glass jug of plum sauce to use. The veggie fried rice on the main plate was just like everywhere else, and the szechuan vegetables was okay, too much onion and boy choy stems I think? Not a ton of carrot or broccoli, and no peppers that I saw, but what was there tasted okay. My other entree was the Veggie Singamore Fried Vermicelli with Curry ($10.95) was exactly what I expected: a mount of noodles with a slight all spice hint to it versus curry, minimal vegetables, a kick of heat. So again, not bad, but nothing to brag about. Overall, if you want quality Chinese, I wouldn't go here. But if you are hungry and easily satisfied, I'm sure it'll do the trick. And for the same reason that I'd never initiate going back, but if I lived in the neighborhood and just wanted something to fill my gut, or someone else requested it, then I'd have no problem stopping in or ordering delivery to try some other dishes. read more

just received the worst service I have ever experienced will definitely never come back to this establishment

Super friendly staff, and some absolutely delicious general tao chicken. Looking forward to eating there repeatedly. :)

I talked to the owner and told her I had a work lunch for 22 people, told her how much money I had to spend and which five dishes we wanted to share. We agreed to a pickup time and everything was ready on time. The food was great and our whole team had enough to eat and was quite happy. We will order lunch from them again. read more

I have been ordering for over 7 years, and have never had a bad experience. Food is always hot when delivered. Schwann could be a bit spicyer using real chilies and ginger, instead of powered ginger. I would highly recommend this shop. A little "hole in the wall" but very good cooks! Excelent service and quick delivery Food is tasty and very good! Gretchen read more

Ordered far in advance but delivery came 40 minutes late. Food was cold. Ginger Beef and chicken balls were bland and soggy.

The food was adequate Canadian-style Chinese. They get an extra star for the impeccable service. Most of the other customers appeared to be regulars, which is always a good sign, read more

I ordered here tonight for the first time. I'm in Halifax for work and don't know many good places to eat, so for me it's all trial and error. The Silver Dragon was a real let down. Their delivery service was fast, but their food was really bad. I ordered the chicken chow mien, honey garlic spare ribs and three egg rolls. The chicken chow mien was actually really good, but that's the only good thing I can say. The spare ribs had barely any meat and were cold upon arrival. Their egg rolls had some weird brown sludge in it and I could not even get through one, even when I tried to drench it in plum sauce (I can usually eat anything). I paid 40$ for everything I ordered and I think that it was way over priced for the quality of food. read more

If you're willing to wait over an hour on a Sunday night by all means..go here but their attitude about long waits for orders is absolutely ridiculous! read more

I ordered delivery from here on a Saturday night at about midnight. We had a very simple combo plate number 17 and a order of ginger beef. They advised it would be 45 minutes for delivery. We waited 1 hour still no food, we called the place back to ask if the food was on its way as it was getting late. They told us they would call the driver and call us back. We waited 15 minutes and called back after no call from them or no delivery. Long story short they would close to a hour late because the delivery driver forgot his cell at the restaurant and couldn't call us. To top it off the delivery driver decided it was ok to give my cell number to a complete stranger to call to tell me my food was here and now I am receiving random vulgar texts from that person. They finally get upstairs with my food I advise them it's ice cold they are almost a hour late is there anything you could do for me and they offered me 2 dollars off. I called the restaurant today to Advise them of what happened about the delivery and also now getting random vulgar texts from the person the delivery driver thought it was ok to give my number too and they said they had already done enough by giving me 2 or 3 bucks off. This place is a joke to me now I would never order from here again or recommend anyone to this establishment after such poor service. read more

It used to be good. The chicken curry has become watered down... not even sure if it tastes like curry anymore. Very sad. They've got some strange extra charges for delivery too, which they dont really clarify when you are placing your order. Something about 2.50 for using debit and 4 dollars delivery for orders under 25. Also, the last time I ordered the man accidentally poked me in the breast, but after he done it again just recently I started to feel like it was intentional and made me feel very disrespected. This is a bad way to run a business. read more
