Tried here before as was told best Chinese food- It was good but not the best as I would consider- I miss the old Mr Changs! read more

Great service and ease when picking up an order. Friendly engagement and easy exchange.

The worst Chinese food I've ever had. My son and I had diarrhea immediately after eating it. If you value your health, please don't eat here. read more

Happy Garden Chinese - A plateful of hot fresh deliciousness - Chinese Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

Amazing restaurant! Truly Halifax's hidden gem. Have been many places in the world and this is top ten hands down. Food is always piping hot. Staff is very authentic. Taste is amazing. Prices are fair and portions are generous. Dishes marked as spicy are very mild. You will have to request them spicier if that is your thing. Go through the effort to find this little place. You will not be disappointed!! read more

Happy Garden Chinese - a restaurant with tables and chairs - Chinese Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

I ordered quite a bit of food from their vegetarian menu for my partner and I, and they were able to make it vegan friendly. The lady who took our order was knowledgeable and helpful, even asking questions to confirm if certain ingredients were okay! The delivery took about around an hour but the food was still rather warm when it got to us, and tasty! Everything was made correctly except for the rice noodle chow mein, which arrived as curry noodles? My partner still enjoyed it but it wasn't the dish we ordered. Overall, it's the best vegan friendly Chinese food that I've had in Halifax. I will definitely order again, just making sure to have her read back the order! For any vegans wondering what I ordered: * Veggie tofu pad Thai: no egg no fish sauce * Veggie fried rice: no egg no oyster sauce * Veggie Spring Roll * Buddhist Delight (as is) * Veggie Chow Mein: sub rice noodles no egg no fish sauce (I didn't receive this, instead I got curry rice noodles w/ no egg) read more

This place, for me, is as good as it gets for satisfying that craving for Canadian Chinese cuisine. Although the inside is less than stellar. Honestly, it's dingy, but I'm into it. It's close to my house, and the combos are amazing. Food for value wise, it can't be beat! They have daily dinner combos to choose from for only $9. I'm not sure what the lunch special price is, but I'm sure it's a bargain. I had the Monday dinner combo of ginger beer, chow mein, chicken fried rice and an egg roll. For $9? This poor girl is into it. To quote my mom: It was the best chicken fried rice in the city. I can't confirm or deny that but I can tell you if you're into ginger beef, it's pretty darn amazing here! read more

I think Happy Garden has beat out The Great Wall for my favorite Chinese spot in the city. You can find it by looking out for the red sign that says "new open, new flavor", it's tucked away on Birmingham St, which I think will work in their favor since our new NSLC store opened up less than a block away. I recommend the combo 15. It comes with an egg roll and 3 different dishes of your choosing. I typically get the chow mein, Kung pow chicken and general tso chicken. they make the best general tso's chicken I've ever had. It's nice and crispy and the sauce is fantastic. The only lackluster dish I had here was the soo guy, the rest has been awesome. The prices are also really reasonable. Highly recommend! I've only ever tried the Canadian Chinese dishes so I can't speak to the more authentic choices, but they do have a good selection of REAL Chinese dishes.. interestingly enough they have an option to bring your own lobster or fish and they'll prepare it any way you please. read more

I had a bad first experience here. But am now a regular. They are so fast and their food has always been good. Free delivery is great too. Singapore noodles are my favourite but unfortunately, I don't like them here. But everything else is great. Highly recommend. Beef and broccoli, rice and general tao chicken is great! Combo 15 is the way to go! read more

Happy Garden Chinese - Combo 15's are the best. - Chinese Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

For me, this place is now the best Chinese food in the city since Sun Sun cafe inexplicably closed down. The rice is delicious, the dumplings are divine and the sauce they come with is wonderful. The egg rolls are delicious as is the sauce they come with and the almond chicken gai ding is masterful, best I've had in the city. Both ginger chicken and ginger beef are splendid, though I prefer the chicken as I find the beef a tad more chewy and I have a jaw issue. The only issue is I got used to having soggy, wonderful chicken balls from Sun Sun and Happy Garden kind of skimps on the sauce for them and they don't put the chicken balls in the sauce, but that's all personal preference. i just start them soaking while i eat my appetizers and they're good to go when I'm done those. The prices for the portions are outstanding, i had to move out of the neighborhood and I miss the place so much. The customer service I always got was wonderful, the lady there always recognized me and was warm and inviting in greeting me. I also enjoyed the ambiance with the Chinese station on the TV, I enjoyed watching it trying to figure out what was going on in the Chinese soap operas. Yes, I'm a huge nerd. :D As another reviewer noted it does look a little dingy, but it's by no means dirty. I've never had any problem with the cleanliness. I always picked up since I lived like 2 minutes away so I can't speak to their delivery service but they do offer delivery. Try this place out if you're nearby, you won't regret it. read more

Wow! Huge Portions and great value. The spring rolls are amazing. We asked for side sauces and got lots with no hassel. The delivery guy was lovely. Arrived withing half an hour. Very pleased. If our stomachs disagree later we will advise.... read more

On a long day after classes that go until 9:30, Happy Garden is my mana, my strengh. The portion sizes are incredible, the food is delicious, and the restaurant is so much better than Jeans. read more

I'm definitely one of those people who reads reviews before i order my food online. Honestly ignore all the bad reviews, because the food was incredible (general tao + ginger chicken)! SO good. The staff was extremely friendly (and fast) as well when we went in to pick up our order! I reccommend. read more

Literally the BEST Chinese food ever. Tastes amazing, great price, really nice staff. I eat a LOT of Chinese food and this is hands down the best I've had in Halifax! read more

This is a speculative review. I haven't eaten at the restaurant and until today, didn't think I ever would. I remember when Mr. Chang's was in this same location and that place wasn't great. When it morphed into Happy Garden, I didn't pay too much attention, except to notice that it was empty one day when I walked by. But I plan to go very soon and here is why: I just met with an acquaintance from Calgary who is visiting. He ate here and said it is very good. I trust his opinion because he has lived in Hong Kong and travels extensively in China and hence knows a thing or two about Chinese food. He said it compares with good Chinese restaurants in bigger Canadian cities like Calgary and Toronto. It's on my list! read more

My friends and I ordered a few dishes from Happy Garden. The food was 30 minutes late and we found 3 long hairs in our hot & sour soup. I would seriously urge anyone who is considering ordering from this place to decide whether they want to be enjoying a mouthful of hairs and cold food, or get their food from someone else. read more

If you're looking for affordable Chinese, this is the place. The portions are massive, prices are super reasonable, the food is consistently hot/fresh, and the service is always delightful. It's a little greasy, but I would imagine that's what we're all looking for when ordering cheap Chinese. read more

Emmm I don't know, hahha I think sever maybe lack of communication skills, foods are ok. I'm still going but only because they open late.

Good food and good prices. I only stop in every couple months and the waiter remembers me and the combo plate that i order.

I order from here all the time and delivery never takes more than 30 minutes. The portions are large and the prices are fair. The staff is very friendly and always remembers my order. This is exactly what I was looking for in a Chinese take-out and this will be my restaurant of choice from here on out. read more

Do NOT try the Szechuan chicken - I am throwing up in a Airbnb bathroom rn. Friend got general Tao chicken and said it was bomb tho, but do NOT eat entire portions. read more

Well after reading a lot of the review I went here for take , order chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken ball , chicken egg foo young and chicken lo main, got it home all was really good except for my daughter chicken balls they where way over cooked and not soaked in the sauce. read more

We got delivery from this place one night while vacationing. It was one of the better Nova Scotian Chinese restaurants I've eaten from. The portions were huge and priced well, we got three giant dishes and egg rolls delivered for about $30 and it was enough to feed us three meals and it was all delicious. The food was delivered within 20 minutes of ordering. They were slightly stingy with the amount of soy sauce packets they sent but next time I would just request more. read more

I read reviews before going there, and thought it wouldn't be bad, just classic Canadian chinese cuisine. But it's simply not good. Plus the service was worse than awful. Just walk a few extra meters to find some other place. read more

I'm done with this place. I've eaten in the shabby dining room and spent the entire time shooing away flies. They can't get a delivery order right and blame me every time they screw it up. Today I tried to pick up my order and they only made half of it. I watched my food get cold while they made the rest of my order. The ginger beef is the best I've had in Halifax, but it isn't worth the aggravation. read more

Again after 8 months I thought I would try this place again. Check my other review. This time I ordered two Ginger Beef specials and an order of deep fried Won Tons. Was a pick up order. Showed up and only one order of Ginger Beef. So back in to the "restaurant". They said they would make another but we had to pay for it. Sure lets pay for another order while the first order gets cold...LAST TIME I WILL EVER ORDER!!!! read more

I come from Toronto, and have had some pretty descent Chinese food. I'm not from anywhere in Asia, but I've had my share of Non-Americanized Chinese. We Ordered: Spring Rolls ( veggie ) - Low point, very generic. Singapore Noodles - Great, good balance of spiciness and curry flavour. - Tons of noodles. - Not too much veggies or meat. Ma Po Tofu - Also good, risky thing to order in Halifax and it was very tasty here. General Tao Chicken - Very good quality Chicken and perfectly cooked. - Its very rare you get these fried chicken dishes with fresh fried chicken. Finally. - Sauce was tasty. Young Chow Fried Rice - Good fried rice, tastes like it should. Everything was good, So far the best I've had in Halifax amongst the top Chinese places up here. I almost didn't order due to lack of reviews. So here I am writing one. :) read more

I like how they give a lot of rice with their combos because I have a big appetite and there's nothing worse than a restaurant being stingy with portions. You also get a decent amount of chicken balls and bean sprouts with the combos I ordered. I'll probably be eating here again in the future but I don't recommend the Canadian dishes, not their specialty and I should have known better. Not the best. read more

I rely on these great cooks and their fresh savoury dishes. Very good fresh food. Authentic. Dependable.

Ordered the veggie lo mein and hunan chicken. Super yummy and fast delivery. I'll definitely order from here again :)

Delicious Chinese food. I eat here at least once a week. Fairly priced. Worth a try for those looking for Chinese food.
