Best Chinese-canadian food around!! The portion sizes are EPIC, and can't beat the prices, nor the taste. And they are so consistent with flavour and portions. Also, chicken balls actually have chicken in them! (Not like most places that are mostly batter) I have been to many different places, and this one beats them all! The food you see was under 20$. Got to say have been disappointed lately went last week for the buffet and was told every 2 weeks now, went again Sunday night ( 2nd week)and was told no buffet with no other explanation, wonder what is going on, the past few times we were there the food is really good read more

I went here with my family on my birthday yesterday. I wanted to try this place before because my chinese co-worker recommended this place and told me they serve authentic chinese food. The place is not grand but the server was good. She served the food really fast even, I think she was working alone. We ordered the dinner set, the food serving was generous and I can say it has the authentic taste. We ordered chicken fried rice, ginger chicken, chow mein, egg rolls, sweet & sour and mapo tofu. I don't think they serve desserts, it would be good if they do. If you are not mindful of the ambiance and you want authentic chinese food this is a good place to eat. They do delivery and accept major credit cards. The server told me that they have their buffet every Fridays and weekends. I will post the photos later. read more

New Wing Wah, formerly known as New Asia, has been a long time favourite of ours since we were introduced by my sister-in-law about six years ago. We have been enjoying their food for a long time, particularly the Shanghai noodles, the fried dumplings, the General Gao's chicken, and the sizzling beef. The portions are generous, the food was very tasty, and we always left feeling very happy and satisfied. So why only a three star rating, you may be asking. Well of late, the food has been so spicy it's almost inedible. Don't get me wrong, I love a hot curry and a long time ago my favourite dish at a little place downtown was called hot numbing chicken. I use hot peppers and sriracha sauce with a rather free hand, yet I still find that of late their food has definitely gotten spicier. My husband picked up an order tonight of the sizzling beef and dumplings and mentioned that we were not too happy with the last order. He explained that we have been long time customers but that to our tastes the food has changed. It was suggested that we try the ginger chicken instead. The sizzling beef was again almost inedible. Don't get me wrong, maybe we will try the ginger chicken next time, but the food has definitely changed and sadly not for the better. read more

I had some complications with delivery. I called and ordered my food and gave them my address but they hung up on me before I could get a price and if they took debit at the door. An hour goes by and I get a call from them saying they delivered my food to the wrong address and that it would take longer for my order. The food was good minus the egg rolls. went here on a rainy Saturday night, place, pretty well empty... few tables here and there. ordered the fried dumplings to start, combo 4 (balls, rice and egg roll) and the Cantonese House Special Chow Mein.. the chicken balls were good, lots of batter... lacking on the actual chicken part, and to us, the batter itself was darker than we're used to... we're thinking the oil in the fryer needed changing. the egg rolls were good, good filling, nice and crunchy and fresh, and the fried rice... was pretty typical. i loved the dumpling taste, i feel they could have been a little more fried and the filling was missing.... something? green onions maybe? just looked anemic to me? the sauce i THINK was either Chinese vinegar of some sort ... or Worcestershire sauce... which is odd. and the Cantonese House Special Chow Mein... meh... i asked for something in the noodles and she quickly said this was her favourite... to me, it was B L A N D - should have ordered something spicy or anything else. yep it was lots of food and we had enough to take home... but were still fans of Zen Chinese Cuisine in Clayton park. We made the unanimous decision to take the drive to Clayton park next time we want Chinese, as we discovered that the Chinese food in our area is just not up to snuff . NWW gets a 3, based on the egg roll, chicken balls, and dumplings -- the noodles ( pretty well my whole meal ) lots them points. read more

I agree with the other poster that the food is getting too spicy. We have ordered General Gao's Beef for years and recently we can barely eat it because it is so hot. The ginger chicken is so hot we have stopped ordering it. We tried sizzling chicken instead because on the menu it had no hot icons beside it, but again it was very spicy for a dish that claims to not be hot. I hope they listen to these reviews and get back to a decent level of spice. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for many years now. It is the by far the best Chinese you are going to find in the HRM. I will venture and try other restaurants but ultimately compare everything to this place. And they all pale in comparison. The food is always delicious. The servings are beyond generous. The prices are amazing and the a service is quick. Their fried wontons are unlike any other in the city. Try the ginger chicken. It's a must. I have brought many people all the way out to Spryfield to try and have made many a New Wing Wah convert. Well worth the trip. read more

They've improved their Ma-Po tofu! Since my last review where I complained about the absence of Sichuan peppercorn, I've ordered their Ma-Po tofu on 2 separate occasion, and both times the dish was properly seasoned with the Sichuan peppercorn. My parents moved to Halifax last year from Vancouver and every time I visit I have to bring Chinese food with me! So, this visit I was determined to find a restaurant that tastes like home. New Wing Wah was delicious! I ordered the shrimp foo yung, deep fried squid with chili and garlic (my favorite!), beef and broccoli and shrimp fried rice. My only complaints are that you don't get much beef in the beef in broccoli, and the shrimp fried rice is lacking some veggies. Other than that, the food is tasty and clean tasting! read more

Came to new wing wah with the family for dinner. The restaurant was extremely busy when we came in resulting in a lengthy wait for food. We ordered sea food soup as a starter and the quantity was huge and the soup was good. We also ordered salted fish fried rice, gai lan (vegetable dish), Szechwan pork and black pepper beef. The fish fried rice was well done and tasty, we ended up ordering two of them for the table. The gai lan was excellent, it was the standout dish of the night as the vegetables were fresh and crisp. The Szechwan pork was sweet and tangy which was odd because usually Szechwan food is spicy and hot. The black pepper pork was the least touched of all the dishes because the only flavour of it was harsh and peppery. read more
