    Eggs Benedict with potato sides.
    Alicia C.

Had a catch-up lunch here with some old friends today. We all ordered off of the breakfast menu and the food was absolutely fantastic. I had the Eggs Benedict which accompanies free coffee/tea refills. Smoked salmon was fresh and delicious. The wait staff was attentive, though we had to wait a bit to get refills on our drinks. Atmosphere is lovely and quiet. Bathrooms were clean. Would definitely come back here again.

The appetizers (calamari, mozza sticks, and wings) were great! Very solid choices although personally the wings (medium) were a little too sweet for us. Service was ok but the waitress did seem a bit stressed. The mains, however, were a bit disappointing. The burgers were just ok, my halloumi in the halloumi salad was burnt (although the salad itself was great), and the children's cheese sandwich was also burnt. The fish & chips were very oily. Usually I really want to like and rate local establishments well as I am a local myself, but burnt food is a no-no and unfortunately with kids I don't really have the time to ask for a remake. Great vibes for a good beer though.

Set ourselves up with a West Avenue Heritage dry cider and ordered a Poke Tuna Bowl and a Beef Dip. First of all, the service was excellent. Warm, friendly and genuine. They specialize in Southeast Asia cuisine, namely Laotian takes on neighbouring regional cuisines like Thai, Korean, and Japanese dishes. The menu is diverse but shows intentionality. The standout dish for us was definitely the laksa. It was creamy and spicy and flavourful. Unlike other laksas I've tried it wasn't watery like a soup but was more of a richer curry bisque texture if that makes sense. The chicken pieces were tender. There were lots of vegetables in the broth. My Asian barbecue ribs were sweet-savoury. The kimchi cabbage coleslaw was tasty but I just ate some of it because I was too full from drinking up the rest of hubby's leftover laksa broth. My ramen-loving nephew devoured his miso ramen. Sara was so sweet and brought my nephew to meet the chef and kitchen crew. She also brought us complimentary Asian style churros. She offered great insight into the menu as well as her brother Bobby's journey into this business and his intention of highlighting Laotian cuisine. I was describing to a friend how at one point, a random Christmas song came on the playlist (it was March). With the warmth of family around me, my belly satiated from the delicious meal, it did feel a lot like Christmas in that one moment. Amazing food (I still dream about that laksa) and awesome staff made for a very memorable dining experience that we look forward to repeating the next time we are in the Cambridge area.

The place has a classy feel, with a space that's thoughtfully laid out and comfortable to sit in. Really loved the overall vibe. That, along with attentive service and solid food, made for a great experience. Everything was above standard, and I appreciated not just the quality and portion size, but also how fair the pricing was. Only small note is that the salad on the side felt a bit generic. Nothing wrong with it, but didn't quite match the level of the rest of the meal. The Chicken Chowder, on the other hand, was a total surprise. Hearty, comforting, and just full of that savory kind of goodness. It was so well done, I honestly wish they served it in XXL size. Overall, it's a lovely spot I'd be happy to come back to. Feels like the kind of place that gets the little things right without trying too hard.

I got the cornmeal trout and chips and my partner got the cheeseburger. We both agreed that the fries here were absolutely delicious! They were perfectly fried in my opinion and had that salty tasty crunch. I think the trout was alright for me personally. Maybe because I'm just so used to fried haddock when I get fish and chips. The service was great and our server was very attentive. I will say I think the ambiance is quaint and cute but I think I was just a bit thrown off by a few minor things (i.e., water was lukewarm, the chair I sat on had a few crumbs, etc.) nothing huge and probably doesn't bother anyone but me. I'd go again for the fries and to try out something from the brunch menu.

A couple Saturdays ago, I was running a few errands. Once I was done, I felt like visiting a diner for lunch. I did a search and found Poached Dreams Diner in Aurora. I didn't mind driving up from Markham to check it out. It was straightforward getting here. I parked in the parking lot and walked in from what looked like the back of the diner. There's also a front door with a patio that faces Wellington Street East. I was immediately greeted by a young, enthusiast woman. I let her know that I needed a table for one. She got me to a comfortable booth by the window. The catch is that you have to watch your step to get to your seat. It's a treat when I have breakfast out. I thought that I'd be getting french toast. Well, all that changed when I saw a heading for comfort foods on the menu. Nothing makes me happier than seeing open-faced sandwiches on a menu. It was probably during my days living in Winnipeg that I fell in love with such sandwiches and at least a side. New goal: come here and have every open-faced sandwich on the menu. I got cold water to start. It was refreshing and much needed after running errands. I ordered these items for my meal: - Diet Coke (2) - Hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and veggies My Diet Coke came with a glass with ice. I loved it. I wish the can was larger! I needed a second can for dessert. I loved my hot turkey sandwich. There was a generous amount of sliced turkey smothered in sauce over a slice of white bread. I got to choose my starch. I went with mashed potatoes. There was enough gravy over the turkey that I dunked my spoonfuls of mashed potatoes into it. I loved the steamed veggies. They were perfectly cooked. They also went into the gravy. The meal was delicious. I'd order it again. I felt like dessert. I asked if there was any. Baklava with pistachios. I said yes. I thought that it would be a square or rectangle. Nope. I got a roll. Cool! It was perfect. It had the right amount of honey. It was crispy and yummy. So good! I paid my bill at the table. I tipped and then tapped my credit card. I elected to have the receipt texted to my phone, which also signed me up for its points program. Yay! I learned that this diner has been open since June 2025. I'm always late to any party because I seem to live under a rock or in a cave. I'm glad that I visited this eatery. Great food. Great service. Great! I used the washroom before I left. The women's washroom was clean and had a full-length mirror. This eatery is huge. It looks like there's a cafe for those grabbing coffee and maybe a snack before leaving. I look forward to returning for more good eats and drinks. (148)
