This is one of Guelph's most popular local coffeeshops among the young and the old. Do I think it's worth the trip? Depends on who you ask. If you are going to see one of their many evening performances or gatherings, sounds like a good time. If you are here for the coffee only, I can say it is just ok ‍the inside is really old-school and could probably use a sprucing. The servers can be a hit or miss. I was in Guelph picking up my son from university and I wanted a good coffee for the drive home. While in the Old Quebec Street shoppes a cashier at Rexall recommended the Red Brick Cafe. What a fantastic recommendation! We easily found it and popped into the inviting little cafe. Cozy and warm, tables were filled with students, and locals There was a line to order your coffee but it moved quickly. All the standards were available, from basic coffee to more ornate coffee/espresso blends. There was a glass case filled with treats and the young women working behind the counter were efficient and friendly. We ordered two regular flat whites, the foam was creamy and perfectly textured. My son was impressed, we both agreed it would make a great study spot. We got our drinks to go but I was a bit disappointed we had ti leave, there was such an inviting atmosphere. A really cute local cafe with great drinks. I've came here on two occasions and brought my sister and boyfriend, who have also enjoyed their time. I am a great fan of their hot chocolate with whipped cream on top. The flavour is very rich and perfectly satisfies my craving, especially in the colder weather. Their brownie is a bit on the sweeter side for me so I didn't personally enjoy it as much- but having it with coffee is definitely a better pairing! Sadly I have not had the chance to try their other menu items because I always eat lunch prior to going. Perhaps I'll have to return another time to try their sandwiches. They have a small selection of board games available. Both times I played scrabble and it was a fun time to enjoy with our drinks. The interior has limited seating so during busier times it may be harder to find a table. I usually go in the afternoon on a weekday and have luck finding a seat. My only complaint is the inconvenience of parking. The location of the cafe makes it harder to find closer street parking but that's not a flaw from the place, just the city. Their food is great (high recommend their breakfast burritos) and their drinks are even better, (they make a killer chai latte AND pro tip = try their apple spice tea). +.5 for service The Red Brick Cafe is tucked away in a corner behind St. Georges Square in Downtown Guelph. My friend from Guelph recommended this place for a coffee sit-down, so I decided to go here on a Friday night. The inside of the cafe had quite a European feel. The architecture looks quite nice from the outside; fits right in with the historic feel of Downtown Guelph. The servers were also very nice, and even chatted with us when we brought up the fact it was bitterly cold outside. I ordered an iced latte. The iced latte was pretty much hot latte with ice cubes added to warm up the drink, so it didn't feel cold at all. Not what I expected, as when I asked for an iced latte, I expected an iced latte, as in cold. The drink itself was okay, but the atmosphere definitely made up for the actual product. The cafe was simply a great place to sit down, relax, and have a chat with your friends without going to a bar, pub, or nightclub. Next time I'm in Guelph I'll probably end up trying the Cornerstone and the other famous places, but I wouldn't mind coming back here for a sit down, relaxing atmosphere. read more

One of my favourite spots in Guelph. I love beer, I'm a huge fan of coffee, and I have nothing negative to say about red bricks, so this place was bound to have a positive impact on me. I love the atmosphere. Feels like the perfect crossover between a pub and a cafe. I only just realized that they have a patio out back so I'll definitely be hanging out there more this summer. The coffee is pretty decent, though I think I prefer Planet Bean for a really good cup. Food can be a bit pricey, so I usually just stick to drinks. They have bands and open mic nights in the back during some evenings which is a cool touch, but a bit of a cramped venue for music. The staff were also very non-judgmental about me ordering a beer at noon on a Monday, so that goes a long way too. If you're looking for a decent cup of coffee with a good atmosphere for reading, studying, or meeting up with a friend, Red Brick is probably one of the best places in Guelph to do these things. Great coffee! I never thought I would try coffee without sugar, but that was the day for my experiment. The latte was flawless, and actually tasted wonderful, without anything added. I did not try any of the food or pastries, however my kids seemed to have liked it. No reason not to give 5 stars for Red Brick. While visiting Guelph again, I brought my laptop over to Red Brick to complete some work with a soy latte (which was perfect!). Worth noting that it seems to get busy here quite fast. I attended on a Sunday morning, just 15 minutes after opening and the front end already had just a few tables remaining. Luckily, the cafe has a large back side with lots of table room (but no laptops). There's a 2hr policy when it comes to spending time here and working away on a laptop, but as there should be! Parking is via street. Some spots right out front have 15 minute parking only, while further down the street has free 2hr parking. No complaints! read more

Red Brick Cafe is an iconic landmark in Guelph. It is tucked away in a small alley right in the middle of downtown Guelph. The quality of the coffee rivals the best cafes in Toronto. They are perfectionists with their technique and ingredients. I love the respect and passion they show for the process and details. I recently stumbled across their instructional videos online, which tells you a little about how much they know coffee. The prices reflect the quality and are very fair in my opinion. The atmosphere is very artist friendly. They post work from local artists on the walls and provide free WiFi. These guys made my thesis writing experience a little less painful, albeit more expensive. read more

Great atmosphere and environment for thinking. This is a european style cafe, and it is a nice touch in Guelph. This place has built a cult following in town. EDIT: The only reason Im giving it 4/5 is because the coffee could be better. The standard dark roast tastes a bit too nutty for me, but thats just me. Planet bean's roasts are more in line with my tastes. The foods are a bit pricey, but they are tasty, and I have always found them to be fresh, despite other reviews. What a great and popular place for studying or reading a book. It is always busy here, even more so during the school year. I have been here many times and I can confirm that it is perfect for said actvities. Im the back there is an awesome patio and recently, they built a fresh seating area in the front. I visited one evening and it was pretty cool because they had board games out. We dat down and played some scrabble while drinking local beers. We had cake as well but it was a little bit pricey. (~9.00/slice). Eat the cake if you want, but its probably more worth it if you go buy a slice at wellington bakery across the road or an actual whole cake ;) read more

This is a place that is more about the vibe than the food in my opinion. It's artsy and downtown and what I think people would say is "hipster." The wait staff is pretty nice overall. I was in there a few weeks ago to do an interview because Red Brick is open later than the Planet Bean and it had to be a downtown meeting at a coffee place. The place was packed due to a writers' open mic. I was asking the waitress what options there were so I could still do the interview there. She was really helpful and gave us a couple milk crates to stack so we could use it as a chair until an extra seat became available. Her co-worker was a little less inclined to be helpful and seemed a bit snippy with me even though all I had done was agree to the suggestion about the milk crates the other waitress had made. But no big deal - it worked out fine! The hot chocolate here isn't good but I do like their winter warmers. The naughty toddy was better than the Adam's apple but both were good. (You are not allowed to get a winter warmer to go because of the alcohol... I may have asked). read more

This is pretty much where I live when I'm in Guelph. Can't beat it. Free WiFi, great coffee, excellent staff. What is super important to me: There are healthy food options! I don't eat dairy, and I avoid soy & gluten, so to have options that I can actually eat & that are delicious - amazing! Definitely try the soups and the quinoa salad. I also have the egg wraps a lot. This place is the best. It is a great place to study at, however outlets are sparse. There is a nice patio as well. Beer and wine is served and sometimes has live music nights. I came here with the boy for a quick bite to eat. Make no bones about it - with good lighting & a surprisingly tasteful indie music selection playing, this is totally a cafe. Don't let that fool you into thinking their food isn't tasty, though. On the daily menu (which was relatively small, but tasteful) was a grilled chicken panini with bacon and cheese, and even though it sounded super heavy it looked delicious. When the paninis came they were a lot lighter than we anticipated, but without any skimping on the flavor - a very pleasant surprise. I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and really liked the interior of the cafe--you can choose a cozy corner in the back room, people watch near the store front, or do whatever and sit outside. I'm not a fan of large troughs of food (e.g. Cheesecake Factory, McD combos, buffet restaurants) and I think portion control is justified by high quality ingredients. But when I ordered their meat panini, it leaned a bit too much on the small-side. Though it was delicious, fresh, and high quality, I think for the price I paid this personal review would have been an easy 5 stars had there been three more bites to my meal. Self-serve water. This is great. I have no preference between paying for bottled water vs complimentary water. However, stacked plastic cups that aren't completely air-dried, sitting indoors in the direct path of a sunny window is SUPER BACTERIA BREEDING GROUND if let's say, the bottom tower of these cups don't get turnover or use within 24-48hrs; and its a contamination hazard that can easily be avoided by either not stacking the cups, or drying the cups first. Knowing this, and if you're kinda randomly picky like me due to remembering useless facts (guilty!), purchase a drink and avoid the free water. read more

I love visiting the Red Brick whenever I'm in town. The bean they use for their espresso is super yummy and the foam on their cappuccinos is always mountainous. The food is yummy (but don't expect to come for dinner). The atmosphere is great, with a lovely outdoor patio. This is by far my favourite place to get caffeinated in Guelph! Located in a beautiful historical building in the heart of the city, this is a great place to get some work done, catch up with a friend, and see live music (they also have a liquor license)! I love their coffee, though, these days I'm hooked on their soy matcha latte- just the right amount of sweet. Food-wise they have options for most dietary needs and everything is made fresh daily. REVIEW UPGRADE: So I was only in line for about 10 minutes this time and, though waiting in line for more than about 5 min makes me brew a bit (coffee joke), it was well worth the wait. Great coffee AND the breakfast burrito was so delicious! It is a popular place, folks, so be prepared to wait a bit. Also, if the line winds around the front room, it is hard not to get pinned into your seats or jostled about. So sit in the other room if you don't want to get bumped by backpacks and, well, bums when it gets busy. I swear someone rested there purse on my shoulder.
