Amazing bakery run by great people! I went for a yelp event and wasn't sure what to expect but they were extremely welcoming and interested in telling their story of the store and getting feedback for expansion. They also take suggestions for new flavors!!! Everything we tasted was delicious and light/fluffy and all the cakes on display were beautiful. I had the best red velvet cake and cream cheese icing I think I've ever had! The strawberry cupcake with jam topping was a little too sweet for me but it still was delicious so you can only imagine how great everything was. My favorite cupcake was the sweet potato swirl where they put pie filling into the cake mix and the icing was the perfect match for it. This a seasonal special but I will definitely be paying attention to their weekly specials and new flavors/other seasonal specials that pop up. I used them for my 40th birthday and I was assured that they could make the cake I wanted. I was so disappointed and hurt! My cake was bare, didn't have fresh flowers, they used some old looking fake ass flowers, the drippings were way too thick- uneven, messy, and just badly done, only 4 macaroons on it, it was leaning to the side, way too much icing in the cake, there was way more icing than cake!!!!!..... even my guest were disappointed and laughed about the cake....so embarrassing and truly unfair! I paid $150 for them to ruin the one thing I wanted perfect... mind you I was guaranteed it would be perfect, and for what I paid it should've been! I tried to contact them with no luck! ...When I look back...I was so happy to find a place close to home, black owned and said they could do what I wanted. I patronized them because they were black owned, I'll never do that again! Might I add they wouldn't deliver it to my house! So unprofessional and such a huge disappointment! Do Not Waste Your Money! These cakes are absolutely delicious! I had an opportunity to enjoy one of their cakes some time earlier and was waiting for a reason to get one for myself. Finally, I ordered one for my birthday this January. I don't live anywhere close to the bakery, but they offer delivery service for a fee - which was well worth it in my opinion. I was able to choose all the details for my cake and the owners helped me determine what size was best. It's always a concerned that a great looking cake will not taste good, but the folks at Sydney's Sweets are both artists and true bakers. So, I'm highly upset at the size of these cupcakes. I like my cupcakes to be a bit larger. With that said... The taste is to die for. I had red velvet and apple cinnamon (I hate apple cinnamon everything except these cupcakes). My husband (the chef) has an issue with EVERYONE'S cupcakes (I frequent the bakeries as I am a fatty at heart). It not only look good but it tasted delicious as well. I ordered coconut and red velvet cake and I most say both are moist and the taste was delicious. I normally would buy my red velvet from Cake Man Raven but they cake from Sydney's sweets taste exactly the same or even better so as for me leaving in Queens it's easier from to order from Sydney's sweets rather from Brooklyn. I planned a virtual baby shower from Virginia for my sister-in-law that lives in NYC. I found the bakery on yelp, loved the reviews, and was excited to give it a try. This was my first time ever going to Sydney's Sweets and I had wanted to go for sometime because of all the wonderful reviews. However, I was highly disappointed with the service. I had called earlier to see if they had something available and the gentleman, who may be the owner said they do. I had asked him if it was possible to put a cake jar aside for me and he assured me he would have it in stock. He did ask me the time I was planning on coming and I had said around 3.00-3:30pm. I ran late and got there by 3:50pm and the jar I wanted was sold out. Then he says to me, how I said I was going to come at 3:00 and since I did not, someone came and bought the remaining jars. I understand with Covid, small businesses have had to make several alternations and I also understand that I may have not been able to arrive at a certain time as I would have hoped and liked to. However, I did not appreciate the tone of how it was my fault, even though I had asked if he could save 1 jar of cake for me. This was not an appointment I had to make at that time, I drove 30 mins from where I am to get that jar of cake just to be told that he sold all of them and how I did not show up on time. We recently threw my daughter a 2nd birthday party. We had a beautiful cake for the celebration, which we did not order from Sydney's Sweets. Last year, for my daughter's 1st birthday we did order from Sydney's. The cake I ordered was a 3 tier cake with a summer-theme that was priced at $500. In detail, I discussed with the manager/owner what I wanted the cake to look like. I really was excited because my daughter is my first and only child and I just wanted things to be perfect for her 1st birthday. The cake was to be the centerpiece of the summer-themed party. A few days before the party, I reached out to him to confirm the order and his reply was "Confirmed!!". Well, needless to say the cake was never made. When I realized it was past our agreed upon delivery time, I called him hoping to hear that he was just running late. That was not the case. The cake was not made and his reasoning was there was a system error. He reimbursed me for my payment, came to the restaurant to drop off a fake cake (for pictures) and 2 dozen cupcakes. I understand he was scrambling but 2 dozen cupcakes weren't enough for 50 guests. I also understand that no one wants to be in this situation, but he did not even seek me out to talk to me. He came to the restaurant, set the fake cake and cupcakes on the table and left. I never heard from the bakery again. When I think about what happened, it obviously annoys me because I was so disappointed, so I just let the thoughts pass and just chalk it up to...sh't happens. However, after celebrating my daughter's 2nd birthday recently, we experienced how a cake just adds happiness and memories to the celebration. It just makes it even more special. This I must say is my second time coming around and trying there cupcakes.. they make beautiful and different cupcakes for all types of flavor pallets.. first time I came here they had one which was the piña colada cupcake as well as this double chocolate one. When I had gotten it the first time the presentation is beautiful especially in the individual pack container.. only down fall I can say is that when I finally got the cupcakes to its destination the frosting doesn't stay at all on the cupcake it loses its beauty.. this time around I went and got two cupcakes one for my friend for her bday which was the vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and the one I got for myself is the chocolate velvet cake. Again, I was next door at my favorite nail shop and I have been dying to have another one of these delectable treats. Finally, I stopped in. Two people were walking outside of the shop and I walked in. I didn't know that one of them was an employee. When he came in, he apologized and thanked me for my patience (A+ service 101!). I decided to go for my favorite vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting and also indulge in a red velvet cupcake with I think, vanilla frosting. They were both soooooo good! I can't even choose one over the other. What I like about them is that their not overly moist and not dry either (although I do love moist cakes). They have a light texture without being mealy or crumbly. The taste is also impeccable as the vanilla cupcakes taste like real vanilla has been infused into the flavor (can I get an amen!). The red velvet is soo delicious without having an overbearing chocolate taste; it's not my all-time favorite, but it's among them. In comparison to my first visit, the cupcakes seem a tad bigger, so the value in comparison were worth it. They also tasted even better than before. I can't wait to come back. I've come here a couple of times for cupcakes. The cupcakes here taste good. Especially the red velvet cake. Although, they are over priced for a small cupcake and even more with a drizzle of caramel and a few nuts. Ordering a cake: I needed a cake in two weeks for a birthday party I was hosting. They wanted $75 for a 10 inch round cake. I didn't want anything special/crazy designs. All I wanted was buttercream icing. I thought this was extremely over priced especially since their base price for a 10 inch cake was somewhere between $40-50. (There are prices on their board in their bakery) I wound up getting a cake at a well known bakery for $42. The service I received was amazing and the cake was delicious! I've also been there a couple of times to buy cupcakes but they've never tried to get to know me or realize that I have been to and bought from them before which says a lot. I love supporting small businesses for the interaction and relationship you can build with them. That isn't the case here. If the service was better/more personable then I wouldn't mind paying that much for a cake. X-posted to FB: Almost every retail cake or baked product is either a) middling and aesthetically bleh or b) looks good but tastes mediocre. I found Sydney's Sweets on Yelp when I was looking for a bakery that did both macarons and cakes for a party and noticed all the reviews mentioned taste, so I was intrigued. I visited with Sydney yesterday to place an order for my party- every single thing on my wishlist (macarons, banana pudding, red velvet cake, and most importantly, creme brûlée) are on the list of stuff she does. Black Forest Cake was not, but she added it without blinking. She took custody of my two 3-tier trays and eight cake plates for my order next month and we arranged set up. Pricing is majorly reasonable and level of customization is unparalleled. I get the impression they accommodate any reasonable request. Sydney sat with us for a long time and went over every possible option for what I was looking at doing. Incidentally, a customer picked up a Lego-head cake with perfectly realistic chocolate Lego piled atop. It was gorgeous. Given the mediocrity of even very-hyped bakeries (Magnolia, superhyped) I thought ordering/looks were all we could hope for but me and my mom tried off-the-rack random cupcakes. These were not cupcakes baked for us to get us to place a bigger event order, or cupcakes that were special in any way. They were just the cupcakes left over right before closing on a Saturday. OH MY GOD. I know most cupcakes are not knock your socks off, but these were. ZERO artificial taste. Moist like a banana or carrot cake. Frosting was perfectly balanced. Before that my #1 all time cupcake was Billy's, but this was the best baked good I've ever eaten. Actually, I'm kind of pissed off because now whenever I have a party I'm going to have to go out to Hempstead and order here. No one else on LI (not the fancy bakeries, not the old school ones) even come close to comparing. I can't even wait to see what our larger order is like!
