After my last review, I had 2 full-leg & bikini waxes by other staff members that were TERRIBLE. I haven't walked into the place since last July because I was burned so badly that I still had marks in September--I didn't even let her do my bikini line because it was so painful. I also had to spend over an hour getting the wax off my legs. Amanda is the only person that never left burns or let the max go completely cold before pulling it off, or both. Best nail salon I have been to in this area! They are clean, efficient and very kind. I have been here for both nail services and waxing and I highly recommend for both. I don't remember who did my nails the first time I went, but I had my eyebrows waxed by Amanda who did a great job and was very kind and did a really great job if keeping it as painless as possible! The only reason I am giving Sydney Nails 4 stars instead of 5 is because if it's busy, it is sometimes difficult to find a place to sit but if you call ahead and make an appointment they can get you in right away. This place was not a typical nail salon that I've been to. I've been to many nail salons and all are just typical with the ugly board showing all the prices and just never felt cozy. Sydney Nails was a little different, my friend and I usually try new places, and that day it so happened we were deciding between Fancy Nails (across the street on Hancock). But Sydney caught our attention. The place looked nice and clean and the staff was friendly. They had some nice jazz/classical music on and they were chatting with us randomly. They were speaking a foreign language to each other occasionally (but com'on-- which nail salon nowadays don't?) -- so sorry Danielle D. It's pretty normal-- My manicure was great and pedicure was good-- though it did mess up after 30 mins of drying.. I forgot to bring my flip flops so I had to wear my sneakers but the girl ended up wrapping my feet with a sandwich bag? I had an rude and disinterested girl provide me a shellac polish. She cut a number of my cuticles until they bled, two if which continued to bleed even after I left the premises. Staff chatted in a different language among themselves while dealing with customers (pet peve). They reuse nail files on clients despite COVID concerns (even though prices have increased - which I had presumed was to cover extra equipment being used). Their response to extra hygiene measures is for customers to wash their hands on arrival. I did not see any attempt to sanitise surroundings when customer's left. My advice is pay a little more and go to a salon where you will be treated as a valued paying customer and who are conducting a safe and responsible business. read more

My pedicure was great. The technician cleaned up my feet very well (an entire season of flip-flops has done a number on my toesies) and the polish looked fabulous. The salon itself is quite small which led to me waiting and waiting for my turn. It seemed quiet enough but I waited for a good 30 mins or more (they don't take appointments). I thumbed through all the magazines in the waiting area and had just started to eavesdrop on other patrons when I was finally called over. I don't like waiting. I understand quality can't be rushed but things seemed to be moving slow for mid-afternoon on a weekday. Though I like how my eyebrow wax came out ($7 is a bargain), it was the most painful one I've ever had. The waxing part was fine but when she went in with the tweezers I had tears in my eyes. I was in need of a mani/pedi since I haven't done one in over two years. But I also felt like pampering myself anyway so I decided to start yelping for nail salons in Quincy. After looking at the reviews for this particular place, I decided to try it out. When I walked into the place, there were customers already there and all the technicians were occupied. The nice lady looked up and greeted me kindly and told me that I have to wait 20 mins. I didn't mind so I began choosing a color. After waiting for a bit,they got the water ready for my feet and I sat down on the massage chair. About another 10 mins of waiting, a man came over and began cleaning/scrubbing my feet. He was really careful and took his time making my feet look better. The short massage was a nice touch as well. At the same time, when they were finished with the other customers, the same lady (wish I caught her name) came over and began my manicure. So basically I had a mani/pedi done at the same time and it felt great. She was also meticulous in her work and she made sure everything looked great. They definitely took care of me as a customer. I was finally finished with my session and I have to say is one of the best work I've ever seen. Both my hands and feet look and feel so much better and it was worth the wait. I don't usually review nail salons but I have to for this one because they did an excellent job. I love how the lady, who knew I was a new customer, welcomed me again when she was doing my manicure and told me that she hopes I like them enough to come back again. And in fact most likely I will come back again when I need another mani/pedi. read more

So I waited for a week before I reviewed this place. And boy am I glad I did. Walking out I was not totally happy with my gel manicure because the nail polish didn't go all the way to the back of my nail so it looked like I had the manicure done a few days ago. I decided maybe thats because there were some tears on my cuticles (which were caused by the manicure itself .. negative points). 6 days later I at work typing on my computer when my pinky nail chipped. I am not talking like a tiny chip I am talking nearly half the nail polish fell off. REMINDER this is a GEL manicure this is not a plain polish manicure. Gel should hold up for at least 2 weeks, esp since all I do is work a desk job its not like I am weeding a garden. I called they fixed it ok cool. 12 days after manicure 4 nails have chipped. Again I am talking like very noticeable very unproffessional looking nail chips. What is the worst is that you can't just peel it off because you ruin your nail so I have to meet with clients and colleagues with large chunks of paint missing. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! Sorry yelp but Andy my nail tech was awful. Just awful. I should have complained when they did my nails the first time, but they were nice. I desperately needed my eyebrows waxed and just moved to the area so I wasn't quite sure where to go so I turned to Yelpers for some suggestions. After reading reviews, I decided to try Sydney Nails. I went at 6:45pm on a Wednesday night; the hours are until 8pm. I was greeted by a woman giving someone a manicure and told that someone would be right with me. I did have to wait probably 10 - 15 minutes, but it was obvious that Amanda was with someone already. As soon as that customer left, Amanda greeted me right away. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous because I like my brows a bit fuller than some people and some salons wax and tweeze them down to a single line! But Amanda took the time to ask me how I prefer the shape of my brows She spent a significant amount of time making sure that my brows were perfect and even took the time to explain that she left one section unwaxed because she wanted it to grow in a little bit because she thinks the shape of my brows would look better a bit fuller. They look great and for $12 for a brow and lip wax... you seriously can't go wrong! read more

The manicurists were very nice and courteous. My nails look great! 1 star off because the person who did my nails cut me accidentally twice when she was trimming my cuticles. I told her specifically not to cut my cuticles but she trimmed them when I was not paying attention. This resulted in two lacerations. One was bad enough to bleed. The other one was not too bad but I felt it when she wiped my fingernails with acetone. $15 for regular pink and white and $30 for gel nails. Pretty decent. Wished they had a student discount. I will go back but not to the manicurist who specifically did my nails. I'll just ask for Amanda. read more

It's always the same great people working and they always greet you with hello's. They can get a little busy during certain hours everyday so I would call ahead just in case. Walk ins are welcome, normally what I do and wouldn't wait as long as 15 mins. My sister and I are huge into matte gel manicures. They always work with your needs, asking if you want them shorter, rounder, if one nail is longer than the other - let them know and they have always perfected the outcome followed by a nice sweet hand massage. One of their staff cut my finger very bad. It bled a lot and for a long time, and I started to feel faint. He left me alone while I tried to control the bleeding and tried not to pass out. The cut got infected and took a long time to heal. This was two years ago and I still have a discoloration/scar on my cuticle where the cut was. Prior to that, I had been going there for years. I had loved them for their affordable prices and durable manicures/pedicures. But after that experience, I never went back. While I don't mind a less than upscale atmosphere for a manicure, health and safety cannot be sacrificed. read more

If only I had known sooner that I can get a $25 gel manicure right in my own neighborhood, I would not have spent so much time and money (upwards of $45) going to the Newbury St. salons. They do get busy so I have had to wait at times but as long as I have the time, its fine. BUT I had to write a review since I haven't been happy with them lately. There is a guy that now does manicures and pedicures. I have many issues with him. First he really doesn't pay attention and is more concerned with what is going on around him. The water was cold for both the manicure and pedicure. He doesn't do things in the right sequence. He didn't even really file my nails one time. He was rude once and was talking to one of the other women there while in the middle of my manicure (stopping every time he was speaking). So needless to say, I would NOT recommend him!! read more

This place looks like any other nail shop but it's not! A friend kept telling me about this place so I went and checked it out. There were two women working there (Nina and Navy) and they were both so sweet. My friend and I had a bit of a wait but they were both so apologetic about it. When it was finally our turn, they apologized again and thanked us for waiting. They were just really sweet! They worked fast without rushing and skimping on the mani, which I hate. And they also weren't rude in the way a lot of nail places can be. You know?! When they start speaking in their native languages and you get the weird vibe that you're being talked about. There was none of that here. I honestly can't reiterate how wonderful these two were. Too often, I get the service I wanted but at the cost of bad customer service...well not today! I was quite pleased my overall experience, and as I have been recently disappointed with my recent nail salon visits in my home area, I think I'll make another trip down here again. read more

Not as good as it used to be. I've been maybe 10-15 times and sure there had been a couple of times where they cut the cuticles a little too close or spoken in another language around you but nothing too bad and the nails always lasted a long time, especially for the price. On my last two visits, one for nails, the next for wax, there was a very long wait, even for my second visit where I made an appointment. The salon closes earlier than listed on yelp and the staff knows this but has not updated the page so people kept coming during my apt, thinking the salon was going to be open another hour and it wasn't. They said this had been happening for about a year! I went at a certain time, thinking there was plenty of time until closing but then was rushed. I decided to go to this nail salon for my next nail and waxing appointment, based on these reviews. At the beginning of the week I decided to visit the salon to get a business card and make my appointment in person. I was quickly greeted by Amanda and her team with smiles. On my appointment day, I was immedietly greeted by everyone again. I was seen right away and Amanda went right to work. The pedicure felt nice. She even exfloiated my leg with a nice scrub. Overall, the manicure and pedicure was fine, the hand massage felt great, my eyebrows came out perfect! No more spending 16-20 dollars on my brows. Now I only have to spend $7. My brows are extremly hard to shape so I was quite shocked to see the shape that Amanda gave to it. I didn't notice any brochures with the services and prices. But I didn't see anything for more then 40-50 dollars for the services that they offer. They offer manicures, pedicures with a paraffin treatment, gycolic, french, acrilyic, or just a regular one. A manicure and pedicure together is $30. $10 for mani and $20 for pedi. $5 extra for a french. They do nail designs and offer all types of waxing. For your eyebrows they charge $7 dollars and a lip wax $5. They do full body waxes and they use the waxing strips. They also offer facials and massages. I will defintely be trying all of their services. Overall, I did enjoy my treatment and the service that Sydney Nails offered. I will be going to them about every 4-6 weeks to get all/most of these services done. For my weekly nail and mani care I think I'm just going to go to see my girl Ann for a very thorough pedicure. I just love how she does it. Don't get me wrong though, Amanda is great also but it was just missing something... So check it out, this place is great. It is located right across the street from Dunkin Donuts. They have 2 hour parking available on the street as well. Walk ins are welcomed. Prices are very cheap and the service is excellent! Came in Friday after a delayed flight and was really looking forward to a hot stone pedi and gel mani. At 545pm I asked if they had time and they said yes, have a seat. All pedicure stations were currently occupied. In between working on other people, the owner put on the acetone and foil on my nails to remove the gel that was on my nails... And then the clock started ticking... She finished up her client and 30 minutes later, we were finally ready to remove my polish (should take 10 min not 30). I really wish they said they didn't have time and I would have came back on Saturday. Leaving acetone on nails for that long really destroys your cuticles so I was already annoyed, not to mention now they really didn't have time at all for the pedicure. After filing my nails, she took two people in to do brow waxing, and by the time my polish was applied it was 730- no pedi. They offered to stay late but I really didn't want a rushed job. This is my go to place for a pedi. They do such an amazing job. I usually go in as a walk in, but it's worth the wait if anything. The water is always set right and then its on to relaxation. Although the massage chairs are older, it gets the job done. The staff does really well with scrubbing and cleaning my toes. They clean up the polish very well and it lasts for a super long time. All people that work there are very focused and fast, even when it's super busy and customers flood the waiting zone. The wait is usually not more than 15 mins even if you haven't call ahead, which is always a good idea. Great selection of nail polish colors (including OPI) and gel varieties. Nina is definitely my favorite professional there, always does a very neat job and is receptive to the feedback on the fly if you need her to tweak something according to your liking.
