I'm from out of state, and maybe people's taste for what makes a donut good is different in Michigan. My wife got a yeast donut and she said it was great. Wuuut?! Sweetwaters has the best donuts. It doesn't matter what location you go to. They used to be 24 hours but now they close at 8p and it's extra lame. We always want donuts when they're closed. It was a fun place to take my niece and nephews when they were kids. But if you're not from around here you need to go. It's a real donut shop and I've discovered through my travels those are actually kinda rare. Dunkin' isn't that awesome, folks. The real donuts are here. My wife and I stopped here after shopping in Plainwell for a cuppa coffee and a doughnut. The customer service was excellent. Food and coffee was good. They have plenty of booth's and tables to sit down and relax. Plus as an added bonus they have a drive through which was pretty busy also. read more

The Plainwell Sweetwater's Donuts is THEE best! Typically, when we're in Plainwell, it's to pick up our granddaughter from her friend 's house or we're going to Grand Rapids, so it is in the afternoon. Typically, we arrive there at an "off time," and there might be 1 car or no cars in the lot. The amazing thing is we got fresh donuts! Another thing we find with the Plainwell location is C O N S I S T E N C Y ! ! ! The Sprinkle Road location and the Beckley Road location are not always consistent-- sometimes the donuts are fresh, and sometimes they're stale. Sometimes, there is filling in the donut. Sometimes, there's a dot of filling in the entire donut, and there seems to never be French cruelers (not sure how to spell that). We have always received fresh donuts at the Plainwell location! We have always received donuts that were filled properly/adequately. So the Plainwell location gets the 5 stars! Keep up the superior work, and managers--give your workers an "adaboy "! SW's Donut Mill is so much different that the originals in Kalamazoo, in my opinion. The facility is absolutely amazing. Brand new building that is clean and quite stunning. In my opinion, the donut selection is sometimes lacking and the quality isn't as high as what it is in Kalamazoo. The donut holes are great and the long johns are huge. I don't go there enough to say if much has changed since my first few times going. It's slightly disappointing because the Kalamazoo locations typically don't run out of donuts and are always making more. I understand this location isn't open 24 hours but they don't always have what I'm looking for. They also wouldn't let my co-worker order donut holes through the drive through which I found strange. I hope they can get things a little more up to par so that they can actually stay open in our little town. read more

I am an adoring fan of Sweetwater donuts. I have trashed the donuts of other bakeries in Michigan because they do not compare to the heavenly delights of Sweetwater's. If Sweetwater's ever went public, I'd be first in line to buy its IPO. But, if there is something that I never cared for - and I'm speaking about the two Kalamazoo locations and the Battle Creek location - it was how old and dated the three buildings were. Walking in to any of the three to enjoy a donut and a cup of coffee felt like time travel to when I was an undergraduate. Of course, as my girl has said, when you are open all of the time, everyday, churning out yummy donuts, you don't have a lot of time for remodeling or updating. That issue is not a factor in the Plainwell location. It is spacious, it is modern, it is gloriously new. And the donuts are just as delicious. read more

Sweetwater's is a Southwest, MI institution.... almost a religion for people from K-Zoo. So it's a big deal to have one in little Plainwell. They make a solid product and are happy to do it. The service is fast and friendly and this location is set up really well. The donuts are top notch, and they don't fully buy in to the "Donut Fad" that is going on right now. They still make some silly donuts here and there, but they also stay true to the classics and they make a great cake donut I am a bit of a donut snob, so they aren't my absolute favorite donut place in West Michigan, but they are in my top 5 for sure. They need to work on their glazer at this location, it's a bit too crusty and flakes off too easily...but the flavor is there They know how to to it right, and because this location is in a small town...the Hipsters aren't there to ruin this location for you either, which is nice read more

Donuts are pretty decent here but only reason I am giving this a three star is the service. Everytime I go here an older lady takes care of me and my family. She is just absolutely awful. This location completely screwed up/ forgot about my wedding order TWICE. This was 2.5 years ago, so I hope that aspect of their business has changed. I now work in Plainwell and have stopped into this location twice. The Reese's donut I've gotten for years at Sweetwaters on Stadium is the original - this location must be missing some ingredients because its disgusting and I don't ever say that about a donut. On October 25th I contacted SW's to ask if they had any coconut cream donuts ready for purchase. I wanted that specific kind of donut for an 86 year old woman from Grand Rapids who had just experienced a house fire and literally lost everything. These donuts are her absolute favorite special treat and I wanted to brighten her day. When I contacted SW's they told me there were not any currently made, but offered to take the time to make some coconut cream donuts that day to be picked up at my convenience. They even added a couple extra for her in the box! Needless to say this lady was very happy to receive the surprise treat and wanted me to know that she is "savoring every bite." She was extremely touched that SW's would take the time to make the donuts just for her. I am very grateful for their personal touch and exceptional customer service. I normally would think of this place as 5 stars but I have had mixed experiences at this location. The selection of products can be limited later in the day and I have found the consistency of the product to be less than satisfactory. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful with any questions and offered suggestions when we asked. The smell will definitely make your mouth water.
