I've heard great things about Sarkozy Bakery for years, but never had a chance to stop in since…read morethey close at 5 pm or earlier. We happened to be in town during lunch time so Nate and I stopped in for a quick bite. Their lunch menu includes some sandwiches, a couple salads, pizza, soup, and quiche. I got the ham and cheese sandwich, and Nate got an 8" pizza. The food came out pretty quickly, and I liked the sandwich. It had plenty of mayo and thickly sliced ham and cheese. It came with a little cup of pickled veggies, which I enjoyed. I had a bite of the pizza, which was very tasty! The prices were great - I think my sandwich was $7.50. We also got some pastries for dessert - I chose the cherry danish, and Nate got the pistachio croissant. Both were very tasty and not too sweet. The vibe of this bakery is more old-school and homey than some of the more "trendy" bakeries that I'm used to - not a bad thing, just a little different. They sell loaves of bread, cookies, and pastries. I loved their merch, too - cute pins, hats, tote bags, etc. They have brunch every Sunday and they were swapping out some art while we were there. It's a cute spot and I'm glad I finally got to check it out.

I found Dena at a wedding expo. Her samples were the best and I made an appointment to meet her. At…read moreour meeting I found her to be very pleasant and easy to talk to. She was fun and gave me more samples. I ordered an four tier wedding cake and individually wrapped sugar cookies for each guest (250) Each cookie was to have an image of the bride a groom cameos. I asked Dena if this was too much for her to handle but she assured me that it wouldn't be a problem. On our wedding Day, Dena arrived with a lopsided cake. I wasn't too concerned as I was more focused on how delicious the cake would be. However, the cake was disgusting and my guests even complained. It was the consistency of cornbread and the icing had a terrible aftertaste. A bride that she worked with was in attendance and commented that it was as if Dena didn't make the cake. The sugar cookies were even worse. The black image was turning green, the individual wrapping was not on each cookie (rather they were placed inside a box with no protective cover), they were not good at all. My wedding coordinator explained that upon placing the cookies in the wrappers, Dena discovered that the icing image was sticking to the wrapper and ruining the cookie. I didn't flip out because I understand that things happen. After I returned from my honeymoon, I sent Dena an email detailing. What I've written here. She didn't respond. I even called. No response. It has been six months and though I found Dena to be a delightful person to speak with, she has shown no respect to me as a customer. Her samples are deliscous, however, I recommend that brides pick up baked goods at the grocery store rather than risking the quality of their cakes with Dena. All I sought was acknowledgement, but I never received it after Dena took my money.

The matcha was just sweet enough, but not overpowering, and the lavender syrup tasted as it should - no soapy vibes! I loved that they had GF/vegan treats so I could get a surprise for some friends with allergies who usually can't find yummy options at coffee shops. If I had to say ANYTHING negative about this cute spot, it would be that I wish it was bigger! If I lived locally I'd be in here all the time.

The food menu is what you would expect from a standard coffee shop with a little more consideration for allergen prone or meat avoiding type. The flavors are always on point. The Vegan Tres Leches is always a knee slapper whenever you want to divert away from the basic toast with avocado. However if you do go with it, the pickled onions on their Toast with Avocado AND micro greens is also just right. *chefs kiss* You can sit on any of their cute chairs while talking about art deco soaking in their welcoming rustic ambiance. The baby pink and matcha green wall paint is a nice choice. In the back you can find a nice little selfie back drop if you and the person you want to get in bed with are up for taking a selfie together. The service is great. Always a welcoming energy. The owners take their time to say hello and ask about their food/drink. This is a good sign of confidence in their product. They can recognize repeat customers and know what drink you will order, also another good sign. Price is what you would expect. This place is located down town Kalamazoo. In my opinion they have the best matcha in town, and just about everyone that I've talked to mutually agreed. With the service, the taste and as a complete package i would say this is justified for little old Kalamazoo.
