Last night my boyfriend and I went out for sushi for his birthday. We both ordered the Daimyo bento box and gunpowder green tea. The waitress was very kind and overheard us talking about his birthday. She showed up and gave us a sample of the "Baby Shark" roll (we were also talking about this and no it doesn't have baby shark pieces in it) The Daimyo bento box includes everything that you would want and then some to take home for lunch the following day. It's a great deal that includes soup, salad, tempura, two rolls and stir fry chicken. All of it was delicious. When the owner came back to check on how the food was, he brought this awesome heart shaped light up ice cube in a little bowl with dry ice. What a centerpiece! My biggest compliment was on the service. Everyone was welcoming and kind. The owner came up and gave my boyfriend a sword made out of clown balloons and a big bowl of ice cream with a candle on top. He took our picture and came back later to present it to us to take home in a frame! If you want a fun and satisfying place to spend a special occasion, I highly recommend Swordfish in Batavia. read more

Great sushi-lots of spicy options! Max was super nice behind the bar and kept us entertained while we ate to our hearts content Overall great first impression and looking forward to coming back again! read more

If I could give Swordfish more than five stars, I would. The food is always perfect (not to mention they will make your rolls with black rice if requested, which is not only pretty, but also more healthy), the service is always flawless, and the atmosphere is always enjoyable. Asides from their sushi (which literally melts in your mouth), their seared scallop appetizer is incredible and my partner has enjoyed their filet mignon entree on two separate occasions. A bit on the higher side, price wise, but the portions are far from skimpy and quality is always high. read more

Yummy! Salmon nigiri is delicious, haven't had better anywhere else. It is served at a perfect temperature! Everything is served and presented beautifully. My husband and i both like spicy, so we did the Ocean Drive with Japelpeno, and Sushi or Death. Both were delicious! Can't wait to go back! read more

Swordfish has amazing quality sushi- however in order to fill up it can be quite costly! I suggest going on the last Wednesday of the month for all you can eat sushi. Swordfish is a favorite if you have the money to spend! read more

Swordfish - Swordfish sushi- amazing! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Batavia, Illinois

Worst Japanese food I ever had. The food was not good. It's a bad decision. The big sushi it so much better. I could have carry out instead of dining in .The place is like not what I expected. read more

I was in there last night after not going for several years because I had remembered it was good. I had some family in from out of town and we decided to go to Swordfish. All of our meals were very bland. I got the shogun box (which was $39) and the lobster was overcooked and rubbery. The chicken skewers were very dry and had no flavor. My cousin got the sirloin entree which was also fairly expensive for the very mediocre quality. The waitress never asked how our food was because I have a feeling she already knew. The sushi rolls were ok, but once again nothing special. I think the tempura veggies were the best part of the whole thing. Maybe it was just an off night because I've heard great things, but the beer was cold so I'll give them that. read more

Great spot for quality sushi. Loved this place from the first taste. There was quick, helpful, and friendly service. It has a great interior. read more

Sushi was the best I have ever had and the server was great. It's my brothers favorite restaurant now. Sushi is fantastic.

Very disappointed! Brought my daughter here for her 16th birthday with a couple of her friends. The hostess didn't smile and we didn't receive a server for close to 10 minutes after being seated. When we received our bento boxes, the steak was overcooked and the rice was undercooked. We think we received steak that was cooked previously and reheated in the microwave. This place used to be excellent. We will not be returning. All but one of us got sick afterward as well. Overpriced and the service has really gone downhill. read more

Several years ago i got carryout from here and my rice was dry, which pretty much ruined it. But my recent visit was solid. I have been to some well-known sushi places in Miami and in Europe and to be honest this place is not up to those standards. But it is still very good and well worth a visit, especially since it isn't expensive. People looking to have a good time with good sushi will dig it, and sushi snobs will not feel insulted. I peeked at the rest of the menu and they have good options for non-sushi eaters too. One note: not sure this place has a dress code per se, but I would wear something relatively nice or you might feel odd in the surroundings. read more

On a personal level - this is my FAVORITE place for sushi! I LOVE everything I have ever tried. The rolls are always fresh! My favorite is Crunchy Muffy and Dirty Old Man - but I usually try something on their special menu since it changes frequently. Even if you have tried something off their special menu and don't see it the next time - if you remember the name - they usually make it for you without a problem. I have another favorite - I believe it is called Summer Nights (it is spicy -- has jalapenos), and they always make it when we come. It is a bit pricey - but I don't mind paying for fresh and delicious sushi! My company had them cater an office party -- with a sushi chef on-site and they hit it out of the park! Not one person complained - they were all very impressed!! This is a casual place with a contemporary decor - but you might feel out of place if you are dressed more on the "casual" side. They definitely don't have a dress code - and won't turn you away if you are not dressed as the other patrons - but I would recommend "smart casual". No question - we are regulars! read more

This place is outstanding. If you are a sushi fan, Swordfish will not disappoint. The food and service were excellent. I would recommend making a reservation. My wife and I arrived at 6pm and unlike other restaurants in the area, it was packed. This gem of a restaurant is hidden in plain sight by its nondescript exterior at a strip mall out lot. Enough of what all the other reviews have said. While I love sushi, my wife is not a fan which made her uncertain about coming here for dinner. There is a good selection of non-sushi entrees for your non-sushi eating dinner partner. My wife chose the grilled swordfish which was delicious. This restaurant is now at the top of our short list of favorite restaurants. read more

Loved the decor. As for the sushi delicious. I had the golden dragon and a philly roll. The dragon roll was really good. Would definitely go back. read more

Swordfish - Sushi Bars Near Me - Batavia, Illinois

See all

Swordfish is my very favorite sushi restaurant in the Western suburbs. Don't be mistaken by the strip mall location--inside it's every bit as slick and chic as a downtown sushi restaurant. My husband loves specialty rolls and I prefer nigiri. Swordfish makes us both happy. The fish is fresh and the presentation is always beautiful. Yes, it's pricey, but the quality it well worth it. My only criticism is that there is the occassional less-than-friendly server. We've been more than a dozen times and only been unhappy with the service a handful of times, so it's not a chronic problem. Overall, Swordfish is terrific. read more

Wow, wow, wow and wow. Who would have thought you could find great sushi across the street from a Chick Fil A, in a building that adjoins a Bedding Experts, and in Batavial! I crave the sushi about once a week. It's definitely not traditional and prides itself in contemporary offerings, which it excels at. We had many dishes but the seared garlic tuna stands out because it tasted like an expensive filet cooked rare. The tuna honestly tasted like steak. How is that possible? The Sexy Dragon roll was amazing and unlike anything I've had from a traditional sushi place. We will definitely be going back. read more

We went there recently for dinner early on a Friday evening. While they were a little busy, we were seated right away and our server was prompt and attentive. We started with the Lobster Miso soup and the Wakame salad. The salad was large enough for two. We then ordered a few rolls to share. The food was excellent as was the presentation. We will be going back :) read more

Very, very fresh. Nice cozy atmosphere. Did i mention how fresh the food was? Good rolls and huge salad. Yom!

I got food for my family here, and everyone loved it! The workers were so nice and helpful when I called them with questions, and had our food ready on time. The food was absolutely amazing, and definitely worth the price. We fed about 4 people for 80ish dollars, which is cheap for sushi and quality was still amazing. On top of that, they gave us a spring roll on the house, plus a pair of gloves. Thank you for such an amazing experience. read more

So delicious! First time here and we absolutely loved it! The service was out of this world and the chef spoiled us with some spectacular creations! Highly recommend!! read more

Usually 4-5 Stars for Swordfish as the sushi is excellent, but this review is for tonight only based on the experience we had with their pick-up service. Called at 545pm and was told there would be a 2-hour wait. No problem, we understand. Except at 745pm the food wasn't ready, and as I write this at 9pm it still isn't ready and I have some unhappy campers. I'm sensitive to the challenges being faced by local restaurants with this virus, and want to do everything I can to support them, but this is inexcusable. If you can't meet the demand, fine -- but please tell me upfront so I can make alternative plans. The family is very disappointed in what is now a not-so-happy Mother's Day. read more

I order from here every single week (sometimes more than once lol.) I am addicted to their California combo at lunch time! Everyone on their staff is very friendly, attentive and helpful. Love the complimentary roll to try with my lunch. read more

Best sushi I've found in the area. Ingredients are top quality and the plates/presentation are beautiful! They also have often hard-to-find fish, like surf clams. Their appetizers are great and they have a good wine list. read more

I've eaten a LOT of sushi, and this is my absolute favorite place for it. Hands down. Tons of different rolls, and plenty of things to choose from even if you aren't crazy about raw fish. My favorite thing is the bento box. Can't go wrong with that one. Service can sometimes be slow, but the food can't be beat. A bit pricey, but all good sushi is. read more

The food was just okay. Some things were really tasty (salmon and tuna nigiri), the caterpillar roll was good, but then one of the cuts of fish that was part of the samurai bento box (chef's choice so I'm not sure what it was) was really tough and inedible. One of my rolls had such a tough seaweed wrap that I couldn't chew through it- I had to unwrap it and just eat the inside. I wouldn't necessarily go back, it wasn't horrible but there are so many options out there that I wouldn't try swordfish again. That being said they do have a HUGE menu and we only tried a few things so maybe we just didn't pick the best options. read more

Over priced and under served. When you pay a premium price for all you can eat sushi you shouldn't need to wait 45 mins to an hour for each round. It would also be nice if the server came by at least once during your meal to top off your water and ask if you needed a drink refill. There are a lot of sushi choices in the tri-city area. I would suggest going to any of them before Swordfish. read more

I love sushi but this place doesn't thrill me. The weird combinations and high prices were a turnoff.

My second or third visit to Swordfish. You know that fishy smell walking into some establishments that serve seafood? You'll never smell that here...inviting decor (although somewhat over done in the color red) things are cozy and comfy. Everyone seemed friendly. Our server was a little slow getting to the table. I think he was new but he did okay. The food here is a tad over priced, some of the portions were a bit small, but the food is really good. Having softshell crab and cold crab with mango sauce and avocados got the ball rolling. The crab had a mayo tangy sauce (very mild). I didn't like the first bite but then something within me kicked in and my palette said " I like this". We finished off with a chicken bento box. Also a little short on quantity but very tasty. If you like sushi you won't go wrong with Swordfish.. read more

It's been a while since I was last here but last night I decided to take me date here. We walked in and waited for 15 minutes with out being acknowledged by any of the staff before we decided to leave. All I needed was a "hello, I'll be right with you" but I couldn't even get eye contact from the lady standing 2 feet away. It's I shame because I used to like this place. I won't be back. read more

Some of the best sushi in Illinois. The green dragon roll is my favorite. Great food.

Very good sushi place. Looks plain on the outside but inside is cool. A bit pricey but good sushi isn't usually cheap. Not my favorite sushi bar...TL's in Bartlett wins there but this is definitely 1b. read more

Went here with the family on a groupon special and glad we did. The place is not much to look at from the outside but inside is a really cool fusion theme. The sushi was some of the best I have had in Illinois and definately the best in the west suburbs. Not only did it taste great, but the presentation was beyond beautiful. This is definately the place to take someone if you want to impress them with great food, atmosphere, and service. Food is a little pricey but well worth it as it is top notch quality and a great ambience. This is now officially my top pick for "date night" read more

So many gluten free sushi options! Delicious and reasonably priced. Definitely plan on going back

I feel bad giving Swordfish a low score but I honestly feel that reflects my experience. I think they are way over priced and the sushi was very fishy (almost like it had been sitting out for a long time). We ordered the sushi to go, I ate a couple pieces of sushi and just couldn't get any more down. The extreme fishy taste made me nauseated. I am a huge fan of sushi and eat it at least once a week, but I will never go here again. read more

The sushi is nothing spectacular, yet very over-priced. We got a few rolls and they tasted good, but I didn't think it was worth what we paid for. I also wish they had more unique rolls, but unfortunately nothing blew my mind. I feel like I could go somewhere else with the same quality, but a more affordable price. Service was fine. I though it was a little strange that such a pricey sushi restaurant was located in a strip mall as well. read more

The first step is to admit that I have a Sushi obsession. My base line for judging sushi always includes a Spicy Tuna Roll. Swordfish does a great Spicy Tuna Roll with the perfect amount of zip. The Spicy Octopus is also very good but my absolute favorite specialty roll of all time is the Tuna Gone Wild. I order this roll every time. The ponzu & honey wasabi sauces on this roll are excellent. We've always had a good experience and good service. read more

Wow! I'm new to the area, but I was delighted to find such a delicious sushi restaurant right in my neighborhood. The fish was fresh. The service was delightful. And the food presentation was beautiful. And the bubble tea, although different from the milk tea I am use to, was more like a refreshing fruity, fizzy soda with boba. Complimented our sushi nicely! Will definitely return! read more

Hands down the best sushi in this area. With all factors included, this place gets and should continue getting rave reviews. I trap for a living and rarely come across sushi like this!!!! read more

Sorry. It was just not good. The waitress did not understand when we ordered, and finally, when they brought our food....it was all cold and the lobster dishes smelled. Total bomb. Confused atmosphere, must have been a Mexican food restaurant before. read more
