We had a great dinner at Swordfish. Our server, May, was wonderful. It was my grandson's birthday and she really made it special. They had balloons, ice cream and sang happy birthday. We had an assortment of Maki and everything tasted great. Favorites were Blue fin Toro, Cherry Blossom, Baby Shark and Dragon Fire II. We also enjoyed the Tempura Udon noodles. This is some of the best sushi in the area. They still have the robot servers, as well. Its low key, quiet and a very nice place to have conversation. read more

I have lived in Batavia for a couple of decades now but had never eaten there. I love sushi, but there were other options in town. So one evening my wife and I decided to try it. We were disappointed. The restaurant ambience is nice. It's nicely decorated. And our waitress was good. They seemed a bit understaffed but otherwise the service was fine. The sushi was not. We started with tamago and it was cold. As in, it seemed to have been premade and just taken out of a cooler. On top of that, it fell apart when I tried to eat it. We ordered a couple of rolls and the rice failed on those too. Rice is everything in sushi. The flavor of the rolls were ok, but you have to have good rice. At the end of the meal our waitress brought the check along with a couple of tempura banana bites. Yep, they were premade and cold too. Highly recommended . I only have two complaints about this restaurant. The chopsticks they give you are so cheap and way too short they are difficult to eat with and I am a long time chopstick user. Otherwise everything about this restaurant is great. The food is very good. The serving amounts are very good except for the soup I would like a larger cup of soup. The miso soup is very good, but they don't give you enough. The servers was very good. The ambience is great. I love their decor. Karmyn was our server and she was EXCELLENT. This place has such a beautiful interior and great ambiance. Great music playing. Outdoor patio seating with gorgeous fresh flowers in planters. Super clean inside and outside. We were at a local nail salon earlier and the nail technician actually recommended this place! She was so excited she showed us a few pics of the sushi so we naturally had to check it out. She was spot on. The menu is so extensive I didn't know where to begin. We asked for recommendations from our server and she said the Ocean Drive was a good roll with yellowtail (my fav). We ordered that and: oceans 13 roll, yellowtail and scallions roll, house salad regular, casas del bosque Sauvignon blanc wine. Our waitress brought us a small complimentary bowl of edamame which was so nice. Everything was so fresh and fancy. The rolls came out and they put dry ice in little cups on the platters for dramatic effects. I love the little robot that shows you to your table and brings you waters. Everything we ordered were delicious and fresh. It was really nice to receive complimentary Baby Shark sushi and have us try something different. As well as tempura fried banana for dessert. Dark Night has a savory taste and the smokey salmon went well with the cream cheese. If you like lobster, then try the Golden dragon and it had a hint of zest. The Black dragon was my fave, but it's probably because Eel is my favorite. Green Dragon was packed with ingredients and you just can't seem to get enough. The dessert tempura ice cream was really good and it was a lot bigger than I thought and the cappuccino cake had a really strong coffee flavor, which reminds me of tiramisu. First time trying this place because I got several recommendations to try it as a go-to favorite sushi spot. We will DEFINITELY be going back. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Our server, Mae, was wonderful! I think they must know their regulars from total newcomers because she kept bringing us small plates of things to try "on the house" and it was all so good. My fav was the super white tuna with truffle oil... It was melt in your mouth amazing. The drinks were also made very well and they had a nice selection. Swordfish stood on my 'to-visit' list for an 18 years. They opened shortly before we moved to the area, and remained a hard place to visit due to a spouse who does not enjoy seafood. But the tide finally turned when she found a Groupon and agreed to give it a whirl. My son and I love sushi so ordering so this was a no-brainer portion of our dinner. To each his own on sushi selection, but I can say without hesitation that we thoroughly enjoyed the rolls we had. We also ordered a main dish which came with wonton soup and salad. The entree's here were terrific, as was the free fried banana desert. Really enjoyed everything we had here and look forward to coming back. Great taste and care is made into each of their rolls and they always throw in a little something extra like a miso soup or banana flavored roll dipped in chocolate!!! The first thing that I noticed about this place is how the entire staff acknowledges you by greeting you as you are being seated. I found this to be very cool setting them apart from any sushi place I have ever been too. This place is clean and well decorated. Easy to read menu and a wry nice beverage menu as well. We had some of there calamari and it was so tasty and crispy. Served with 2 sauces. Very fresh. I had there 15 piece assorted Nigiri sushi platter. WoW.......what a presentation!!!!! Love the smoke coming out of the shot glass. Besides the fresh fish the one thing I noticed is that there sushi portions are much bigger than any sushi place around town. Came here tonight for some sushi and miso soup. I was immediately greeted. The hostess had the robot server lead the way to my table which was different. I didn't mind it. The menu I was given was a paper one that they send through the mail. I'm guessing you can keep it if you want to. But their menu is also available online and they have a QR code for it at the table. The restaurant has a nice little vibe to it. Dim lighting and trendy seating and light fixtures. I really enjoyed their miso soup. Great rich flavor! The server brought me a piece of shark maki with my soup. It was delicious! It took about 15 minutes for my maki rolls to arrive. I got the Dirty Old Man roll and a California roll. Both were delicious and beautifully presented. Overall a good experience. I recommend visiting the Swordfish restaurant if you're looking for delicious sushi on a date night. read more

I mostly prefer all you can sushi restaurants which this is not. However, it did not disappoint me. The portions were good, and they even gave a free sushi while dining in. I only went there for lunch, but the price was about right for lunch and the portions were pretty good. The fish was also fresh as well. We have been coming here for the better part of a decade. Before you raise a concern of confirmation bias, we called a star loss at this location 4 years ago. They earned it back and then some since covid. The current head chef has a recognition the equivalent of "Top Chef" in Japan and is a master. He made great efforts to evolve their menu over the last year or two, including hot dishes and reimagining their old favorites. As mentioned in previous reviews of this same location, we have family friend who is a sushi hound, eating sushi around the world as a corporate pilot. Swordfish is one of his top 3 favorites in all of the US. Quality is extremely high and they ensure they have an enormous variety of cuts. If you are adventuresome, try the very difficult to find uni hand roll with a quail egg, which is like french kissing a mermaid. I like the mini Godzilla if you've never had octopus before and want to go on an adventure. My wife is a little more basic but has added to her go-to's of Crunch Muffy and Sakkai with the new menu item Oceans Drive. They've consistently had a toro meal for two for $70+/- which is a great value if you break down the cost/quality of the fish. Lastly, for something quite decadent as an appetizer, give the super white with truffle oil a try. read more

The nigiri brought me back to Japan where it was 'Oh So Fresh' and tender. Their maki combos had unique flavors and were tasty. My plate was even brought out by the Chef and he took time to explain the details of my meal which I loved. We had even recieved a few complimentary appetizers before our meal. Food 10/5: If I could give this more stars I would right away I noticed they had specials on a few fish that were said to be super fresh that day. At $7/pc I thought why not take a risk at a new place and give it a try, and I was not disappointed in the least it was so great that I even had to order more! Not to mention the presentation and plating of each dish was amazing and definitely a work of art. Complimentary dishes - Baby Shark Maki, Edamame, Fresh Spring roll: all of these were a lovely surprise over the couple of visits. The Maki was good had great crunch and who doest like some ebi tempura and avocado flavor combo. The edamame was edamame, its always a safe thing to eat and not overly salted. The spring roll was very refreshing and it was a fresh wrapper not deep fried which is easy on the pallet. Mango Martini ($10) -Very good and flavorful. Bold flavor of mango stands out really well and hides and alcohol taste. Nigiri ($7/pc) - Golden Eye Snapper, Shima Aji, Aji (Horse Mackeral): All ridiculously fresh in taste with an amazingly clean smooth flavor. Very light and pleasing to the taste buds. Both times the freshness quality has been present and I don't think I can't stress enough how fresh this was. It brought me back to my stay in Japan where I ate sushi everyday for 3 weeks straight! This was definetly the highlight of my dish as I have not been able to find this quality in the US until now. Maki - 911 ($15) , Monster M ($15): Both rolls were very good and unique in flavor. The one that stood out to me the most of the 2 rolls was the Monster M roll. This maki's unique taste came from the outside being wrapped in Black rice while the inside contained white rice. The flavor to say in the least was great. The white tuna on top of the roll was also amazingly fresh and melted in the mouth creating a flavor explosion from the roll... the only tip I have is stuffing this pc in your mouth will make you a chipmunk but Maki is best in 1 bite so you can get all the flavors in 1 go. Too full for dessert but a well satisfied stomach had me happy and wanting to try more of their menu at a later time. I recommend giving them a shot if you have not already. I will be back for more in the near future! Bonus they all have followed COVID guidelines from what I can see, masks on and over the nose, hand sanitizer at every table. If I lived closer to Swordfish, I would be coming here every weekend! I love their poke bowls, although it's not authentic Hawaiian ones, it tastes pretty good. The added vegetables provide that extra healthiness as well that I'm starting to look for in meals. The price point is also great. When we walked in to place to-go orders, there was a sign that listed all the companies that can receive an extra discount. It just so happened I worked for one of those listed companies - so that was an unexpected added bonus. I like the cut and quality of the fish - it smelled clean and had no scent, like it should. The amount Swordfish provides was also hefty! They didn't skimp on anything. I had some leftover rice and salad but I left that and just tried to eat as much if not all of the fish as possible. I didn't want the tuna OR salmon to go to waste! The rice on the bottom of the bowl was alright. That would be one thing they should work on. Or just remove it completely and get a full salad if possible for your poke bowl. Great service and they also gave us samples of their Swordfish Spring Rolls - on the house!
