We have only eaten sushi here, never teppanyaki (which is obviously their big moneymaker). On nights when Osada was working as sushi chef, we never ordered, he just presented us with dishes, all of them fabulous. This was before omakase became a thing in the suburbs. Like many places, during Covid they were take-out only. Unfortunately, after dining-in became available again, seating at the small sushi bar remained closed, and they have never reopened it. For my wife and I, sushi just isn't the same if you can't sit at the bar and interact with the chef. (FWIW, because of those griddles, the room is always overheated, even in winter.) read more

My friends and I have been loyal customers at this restaurant for years. But recently, we had one of the worst experiences. The service was terrible from the start -- the servers had bad attitudes and seemed completely uninterested in helping us. They messed up our order multiple times after we clarified with them. To make things worse, after waiting around and finally getting most of our food and drinks, we were kicked out for "being there too long" even though we hadn't even finished our drinks yet. I've never been treated so poorly at a place that's supposed to be about hospitality. Definitely not coming back -- there are way better spots nearby with staff who actually care about their customers. read more

Ok no biggie. We sat down ordered and our food came out. To be honest it was pretty Luke warm. My family and I ate our meals like normal then I thought hey I'll mention something. I tell the manager her response "You guys ate it, so it must be fine." I said very politely I understand it was just a little off tonight. We ordered the gyoza, which had a funny taste, and the sauce didn't help. I've never declined a second dumpling before today. The filet, was supposed to be medium rare, but was closer to well done. When we walked in we asked for a table for two. The guy looked at us and told us to pick a table any table, like some sort of magic trick. We sat down and ordered a California roll, A spicy California roll (which was deep fried), a Philadelphia Roll, a water and a sprite. There was no sprite so I got mineral water, then just asked for a dr. Pepper. I was also informed that they didn't have the salmon so they couldn't make the Philadelphia roll. Switch it out for a deep fried shrimp roll. When the food came out my partner had a ton of bread crumbs on their roll and for mine... I could fill a cereal bowl. The shrimp left an odd after taste and we ended up just leaving the rest. The place was dark and it felt dirty, mainly do to the large amount of packing boxes that were right up front by the window. We often celebrate our birthdays by eating out at Jurin in Geneva. It's fun watching them prepare the meal at the table. Last night we filled a cook table with eight of us. We told our server that we had two birthdays & she asked if it was last night (both birthdays were the day before) and she told us that they would only celebrate one person's birthday. It was very awkward for us to see the other person excluded and put a damper on the mood. The server also never initiated singing Happy Birthday so we started singing it amongst ourselves. Also, she didn't give a birthday rose or take a picture. We couldn't find our coupon from last year's birthday so we paid for eight meals and drinks. It was over $300 for the dinner. It's a shame. We have been going here for years around the holidays. Every time the food is great but we are always rushed. This time was ridiculous. We all ordered filet and shrimp or lobster but hardly got to enjoy it. Our first visit. Food was good. Tables are packed together. Celebrating grandson's 13th bday. I would not recommend this for any type of celebratory dining experience. Unless your personal preference is to be rushed, from sit down to cleaning up our table was 45 min. To say the service was fast would be an understatement, usually not a bad thing. From the time we sat down, they brought the soup and salad at the same time. My husband and I ordered a hot saki, we were not half way finished before they were giving to go boxes and wiping the table. There were 8 of us, the total bill was $300 with tip. I always loved this restaurant until this past year. I would have given it 4 or 4.5 stars... but no longer. The food is still extremely good. Yes! The prices have always been very fair. Yes! I've never had a problem with seating or the service... But I no longer can go there due to the lack of cleanliness. Really, I think the carpeting has been there for over 20 years. That is what I smell upon entering. The restroom is gross. The exhaust vents above the hot tables are filthy. Overall, the whole dining room feels dirty. What is the kitchen and food prep areas like? I just can't get the smell of that carpeting out of my mind, it is even worse sitting at the table. Sorry, but I doubt I will be back.... even though it was a family favorite. read more

First time walking into jurin I walked in then the people behind me got seated first. Took 15 minutes to get our order taken. Bathrooms were disgusting. Sushi said it came with 8 pieces, but came with 5 HUGE rolls. Then when the sushi came the "waitress" dropped 2 out of the 5 rolls on the table. Once the sushi was dropped by the waitress it felt as if they were giving us better service after the fact that the sushi was thrown. A woman came in and the balding server immediately asked, (without a Hello or Welcome) & kept asking her, if her husband was coming. She repeatedly told him she's on her own & doesn't have a husband. She asked for a table, again, & he wanted her to sit all the way in the back of the restaurant, at a very small table next to the door to the kitchen. She politely told him she'd like the table that she pointed at. He kept pushing but she sat down at her desired table. He kept pushing again, rolled his eyes, and walked away. She then informed him she had a birthday coupon. He snapped at her & said he wasn't going to give her one for next year since she was alone and not with at least four people. That's absurd and a lie. He then complained that the coupon, which was given to her BY THE RESTAURANT ITSELF, only had the year 2022 stamped on it, and not the specific birthday. That wasn't her fault, that was the restaurants' fault. He kept asking, "is today your birthday?" She kept replying, yes. No mention of "Happy Birthday" or kindness whatsoever. He ignored it completelly. She ordered her food, which came with a missing item, ignored her the rest of the time, never asked how the food was or if she wanted anything else, never said "Happy Birthday", and never gave her the birthday dessert. As she left, he said nothing. She should have told him what a rude, unkind, coldhearted guy he acted like, but she had too much class to do so. He was a total a*s and we surmised that he treated her that way because of her gender and age.....it was clear to us that it was discrimination. We have seen that rude behavior by the same server multiple times before, and only to women. That is the last time we will dine in that restaurant that, by the way, looked dirty and displeasing to the eye...gross decore. Dispicable. read more

Went for hibachi dinner on Valentine's Day. Two couples we had a full table. Definitely not your normal hibachi atmosphere. Expected the usual show like the other location. Definitely not the same. Not sure if it's the same owner but. The CHEFF seemed like he didn't want to be there. No show. We all ordered lobster and filet. Plus the garlic shrimp. The filet was ordered medium rare. When we lived in Kane County before we had kids, this was our go to hibachi restaurant because of the great service and the excellent food. Not fast forward 8 years later and not we live in Aurora, we thought it was worth it to drive 30 minutes to eat here because of the great experience. It was a great experience for my family and I. Both kids walked away saying, "can we come back?" The hibachi chef was fun, cracking jokes, and extremely friendly to my kids. The quality of the food was great as usual. We will be back very soon. JuRin is legit! I was pleasantly surprised when my wife brought me to this hibachi restaurant the first time, seeing as I love hibachi and sushi. It's a smaller place, but they have plenty of seating for large groups and small. I love their calamari hibachi! And the sushi I have tried (just the spicy tune so far) has been very good as well. Each order comes with the traditional soup, salad and shrimp appetizer. A nice change of pace from similar style restaurants is that instead of a veggie side, they do a noodle side which is delicious! While I did check the yelp rating before deciding on JuRin for a sushi dinner on a Friday night, I didn't read reviews or look at photos because I've heard so many recommendations of this place. Unfortunately, I really do not understand the hype. At all. The interior is dark and dingy. With unattractive flourescent lighting, they choose to not use them at all, making it very dark inside. My dad used the flashlight on his iPhone to be able to read the menu. Another annoying ambiance note: The constant noise! There was clapping for a birthday going on for the first couple of minutes, which completely stopped the entire restaurant, and then the hibachi chef was smacking utensils together for the next half hour. Each time it just interrupted our tables conversation and it was obnoxious! Talk about ruining the ambiance of a nice night out. Although, can you really expect a nice dining experience from a place with writing all over the walls of the entrance? Yes, folks, I mean people took sharpies to those walls. The menu: unorganized. It was overwhelming! They have sushi rolls listed with prices and no description in their regular menu. Then they had an additional laminated menu just of their specialty sushi, without prices, and with photos of the rolls but not by that roll on the menu... I was actually overwhelmed and frustrated. Then our plates were dirty. The sushi was fine, though everything on their specialty menu seemed to be either fried or spicy or both. We like fresh sushi. I have been coming to JuRin since before I can remember. I've now eaten at Japanese restaurants all over the world and JuRin is still one of my favorites. Maybe it's the hometown in me talking, but I love love love coming here and I bring my out-of-town friends whenever someone comes to visit. After living in Chicago for a few years, I can say that I think JuRin has equal or better food than many of Chicago's Japanese restaurants -- at 1/2 the price. Contrary to some of the other reviews here, I've never had bad service, food, or experiences at JuRin. It can get pretty crowded on weekend nights, so I can see how some people could feel rushed during busier times -- especially with the door area filled with people waiting on you to just finish up and leave so they can take your table. I typically go in right as dinner hours start and it's still pretty empty. I've also celebrated birthday, anniversaries, and other more random events here. No matter the occasion, the staff has always been incredibly friendly, and I always find something great on the sashimi, sushi, or hibachi menus. The decor is a little dated, but it's never really bothered me. I think of JuRin like visiting my grandparents' house -- sure, it's a little dusty and rough around the edges -- but grandma can cook. Until grandma learns to cook hibachi, I guess I'll keep coming. read more
