SwimLabs has been our family's swim lesson destination for years. The coaches and staff are very kind and accommodating. Our eldest started private lessons with coach Josh and coach Havana. They both helped him progress well in a short period of time. Our youngest is now with coach Josh who helped him transition from beginner to intermediate. Coach Josh is very patient. He understands the student's needs and tailors the lessons accordingly. Our youngest one also has private lessons with coach Kim for the past few months. She has been instrumental in getting him to relax and feel comfortable in the water. She makes the lessons fun and encourages him when he gets the strokes/kicks right. I would highly recommend coach Josh, coach Havana and coach Kim for their dedication and commitment in teaching kids how to swim. read more

I had a first one lesson with Josh and it was a great. he was very patient very informative gave good direction and I really like how I can review my body posture and stroke and how my legs are kicking on the video during the lesson. We have been at this school for 2 months, for both, private and group class lessons. The school is ok but there is one major problem: scheduling and the software they're using to schedule classes. The first biggest problem with the schedule is that you can't reschedule a class without a token. A token is given when the missed (or to reschedule) class has passed. So you can only reschedule what's passed which is a major inconvenience. Imagine you cannot replace an item you bought until the item actually expired. So you pay but can't use your money until some time in the future. This makes planing ahead a nightmare! My daughter has been in classes with different schools for the past 7 years and this is the first time we encountered something like this. Every single school was allowing us to reschedule at any point (under allowed policies of course). My recommendation is to revisit the use of the software for scheduling that you use. It is unpractical. Secondly, the flexibility. We were called a few times to come in last minute if we were avail because of cancellations they had. And we did. So we shown flexibility but this was never returned to us. I asked to excuse the first ever missed class and let us reschedule as a courtesy but received a NO. With Covid and health circumstances flexibility with schedules is a KEY for a successful business in 2021. I recommend implementing more flexible policies due to the pandemic. Thirdly, the staff's knowledge. I was given conflicting information over the phone vs. text. I was allowed to reschedule over the phone and when I texted one day later they said all what was promised me over the phone did not apply. I recommend training your staff better. There were two instances where I showed up for the class and I wasn't in their schedule. The first time I didn't have a written confirmation (the appointment was confirmed over the phone). So we had to turn our back and go home without a class we were promised. And the second time I had a written text confirmation and they had to let us in the pool (it was a private with the coach not even being in the water with my kid!) Fourthly, they do not distribute authority. There are only a few people in charge of making changes. And if those few people are not available at a given time then they put decisions on hold. I recommend to have at least one person who is authorized to override rules and accept exceptions. Don't wait for Christine to chime in for everything. Delegate for faster turnaround! read more

This place was great when I started my 3 kids. After changes in the staff, is a nightmare I'm waisting my time and my money since last month. They are very disorganized and terrible customer service. They do not provide any help if you have a travel. They do not provide any flexibility and don't like to listen as well. My daughter was doing great, now she is walking in the board of the pool with her sister 19 months younger . I lost 3 googles and I asked than if they found it, it was brand new, since they have cameras and I addressed 2 days later. Staff said they don't have my googles, after some classes, my daughter founded the googles in the pool basket. The classes is around 30' and they don't care if they are late to start. The staff in the front cannot follow the comping rules that the first door is only to entrance and the other door is exist. A parent stepped on my daughter feet last time. Swimlabs deserve 5 stars all around. 1st - my 5 year old son has gone from having a fear of water to being a little fish! He loves the water and can now handle himself in our swimming pool with great confidence 2nd - the coaches are AMAZING! Not just at coaching, but so friendly and GENUINELY care. One of his coaches - Coach Chris - from about 6 months ago just asked how he was doing. That means a lot that he still remembers him and thought to ask. Coach Jordan is a wonderful teacher, and is very patient with my son. 3rd - they make it very easy to reschedule if you can't make a lesson. Found this place on Yelp and have been 100% satisfied! Located off Encinitas Blvd in a shopping center near quail botanical gardens. Parking is easy on weekends. It's right by CorePower Yoga. As a parent in San Diego, it's pretty imperative that your kids learn to swim as early as possible. We had our kiddos at a swim school closer to where we lived and it was fine. Convenient. I didn't really see a heck of a lot of progression, but I thought maybe it was my kid(s). Then I found SwimLabs on Yelp and now I know what I was missing. We drive 20 mins without traffic (close to 30 with Fair traffic) to take our kids here. It's twice as much as what we were paying-and by the second lesson, it was worth it all. First off, the lobby is nice for parents. It's enclosed there are restrooms, changing rooms, and a coffee bar. Ok fine, you are paying for that. There are 3 screens in the lobby to watch the 3 pools inside the pool area. So you can watch you kid(s) from tv screens in the lobby. Yeah, yeah, okay, but if you were sitting on the pool deck you'd get the same experience-I get it. But you're sitting in a chair not getting splashed. Second, the pools are small, but each class gets their own pool. It's perfect for little kids because the only distraction is the kids in their class, not other classes splashing in the lane next to them. Also, they have a screen to observe themselves on a delay and they can do stroke evaluation. Last, they actually teach your child to swim. Having swam competitively, I appreciate this tremendously. The goal is to have your kids learn how to swim not just splash around for 30 mins. Even the toddler is way happier and comfortable than my older son was at this age. The instruction is excellent. Obviously I highly recommend. If you live in coastal North County, you should check them out. read more

Was not sure what to expect from this place for my 6yr old. He had been unable to swim for 7 months since his local pool closed down. as we were on holiday in the Carlsbad area I booked him in for two private lesson. I wasn't expecting miracles from his short time in the pool but hoping he would not have forgotten too much. He has been swimming 25yd and 50yd races for two years so is a reasonably competent swimmer for his age Well what can I say, this place is awesome. Chris, who was his instructor did an awesome job of teaching him and showing him on video what he was doing wrong. He corrected so many small mistakes in the 30 minutes that I could not believe the difference he had made. Watching the videos afterwards it was great to see the corrections he had made. SwimLabs are out to nickel and dime you. During the pandemic there needs to be more leniency to their rescheduling policy but they don't. They can reschedule you at a moments notice or put you with a different instructor without hardly a sorry but if you need to reschedule, they'll charge you $10. There's more charges too if you don't cancel in time. Before the pandemic I can totally understand their policies but now with COVID precautions and "everyone in it together", Swim Labs is not in it with you. I'd like to offer a tip for parents looking for swim lessons for children under 5. One lesson a week is not enough for notable progression in a short period of time. In my experience with my 3 year old (who has been attending for over a year) can not swim safely across a pool or our hot tub for that matter. I also put my 5 year old in lessons to master technique, he had completed an intensive elsewhere and was already a great swimmer. I still have my 3 year old in lessons at swim labs, because we use primarily for exercise. It is true that every child is different, but if your goal is for example: swim safe by the summer, you may want consider more than a once per week lesson/ private lessons or an intensive. Also note that there is quite the turnover of instructors at this location, in my experience. I wanted too offer an honest review for parents with young children considering a swim program. I do think the instructors here are good, kind and have great intentions. read more

We've tried swimming lessons for our little ones at a few other well known spots in town and our kids were never really interested in going and didn't appear to be progressing... Discovered Swim Labs from a yelp search of local swim lessons and after reading the positive reviews decided we would give it a try. Both our girls (ages 2.5 and 5.5) enjoy going to their swim lessons at Swim Labs and both of them have improved in their skill and confidence in the water! We also REALLY appreciate the clean and comfortable environment (comfy waiting room, nice showers & changing rooms and delicious complementary coffee). A very focused and fun way for kids to learn to swim. The cameras and video feedback helped my little ones figure out where they were going wrong, and they loved the current in the infinity pool! I felt really welcomed here, great friendly staff, a warm atmosphere and a nice facility. Toy corner for the toddlers not swimming, nice waiting room for the parents. Much cleaner and nicer than other swim schools in the area, and better instruction with faster results. My kids have improved here in the last 2months more than they did in Del Mar in 6 months. I love this place. All week, I look forward to our Saturday mornings when I can sit in the lobby with my coffee and watch my daughter learn such an important life skill (and have fun while doing it). My daughter is 3 1/2, and after only a couple months of weekly lessons, she is swimming like a fish and has to be bribed to get out of the pool. We have been coming here for over a year. It's a very clean and comfortable environment for the kids and parents. They offer many time slots for the parent/tot classes through out the week and weekends. Ratio for parent/tot class is good - 3 to 1 and sometimes the classes aren't full, then you get even better ratio. Never had a problem with make up class if my little one is sick. They are flexible and will work with you on rescheduling. The swim teachers are very nice and I see them taking turns to clean the floors and pool all the time. We've tried a few different teachers over the year and have preferred one over the other. They worked with us on scheduling teacher who works well with my tot. My little one enjoys the water very much and also loves to play in the play area post swimming. read more

Yep - we love Swim Labs as well! We have a 3 1/2 year old that we signed up for group lessons once a week. He is not scared of water but never wants to go under water. Thanks to Coach Rebecca, she was able to get my son to not only go underwater and actually enjoy it but she has also taught him life saving skills within 3 weeks of going. We are now a few months in and he adores Coach Rebecca and can't wait to see his swim friends. After each lesson, Coach Rebecca gives us a rundown on his progress and the next steps. While she has a great time with the kids and is very encouraging, she is also firm and the kids listen and follow her direction. The lessons may be a bit more that some other locations but they have quite a few classes to choose from, small class sizes, warm and clean pools. Love this place! I love that I can sit in the comfortable lobby and watch my kids on the screens. That way they're not distracted by me and they can focus on swimming. My kids love it so much! We attended lessons at SwimLabs from March 2017-June 2017. We only stopped due to a military PCS. Five of my oldest children were enrolled in swimming lessons with a variety of instructors. When we signed up, I had goals of my children becoming water safe. They had all partaken in swimming lessons through other programs and no one learned safety or proper swimming. As a mom, this was petrifying. We started with swimming lessons everyday then spreading the lessons out to 3 times a week after the first 12 lessons. After the first day, my three oldest children were swimming, actual swimming. I could not believe it. Three months later, all five are strong swimmers. My oldest will be joining a swim team at our next location. I can not say enough good things about Swim Labs. Each of the coaches developed a special relationship with my children. Coach Gina was amazing with my little girls. They loved having her as a coach. When most lessons were complete, Gina took the time to tell me special and new skills they were developing. Coach Taylor was so patient with my older three children. Specifically, she was encouraging and intentional with every word she used. This method really helped my oldest daughter grow stronger as a swimmer because she needs positive affirmation to succeed. Coach Rob made my little girls double over with laughter as he called goggles "giggles." They really enjoyed his demeanor. Coach John worked with all of my children and he really is a positive and patient coach. I was so impressed watching him teach a wide variety of ages. Coach Chris was another coach we had the pleasure to work with. He was always pushing my son to keep swimming and to not give up. This really helped his swimming technique strengthen. Chris was patient and encouraging every lesson. Coach Ana worked with my children for two or three lessons and her enthusiasm is astounding. Bubbling over with energy, she made the lessons engaging and exciting for everyone. I know that each child had a "favorite" coach, but they definitely enjoyed working with all of the different coaches. Every coach worked well with a dynamic group of children while strengthening and developing their swimming. The facility itself was very nice. We would arrive to a waiting room where there were many toys for children. In the waiting room, there were monitors up on the walls so you could watch the lessons on a delay. This technology was used in the pool room to regularly demonstrate stroke form to the swimmers. The bathrooms and showers were clean and always had shampoo, conditioner, and body gel. There were three pools that contained rivers which were fast flowing currants that strong swimmers could swim in to simulate a larger distance of water. They have a 100 stroke club that is 'elite' in every child's eyes. My kids couldn't wait to make it on the board. Only my two oldest achieved that goal, but it was monumental for them. They offer lollypops as an incentive for children. When a child progresses to a new level, is well behaved, or successfully completes a new skill, the coaches will award the child or children treasure chest. Filled with small goodies, children could pick a special treat from the chest. It was always a pleasant experience waiting for the children to complete their lessons at SwimLabs. It is important to note that you need to arrive 10-15 minutes early and they do have a narrow cancellation window. One time, I did have to cancel the morning of swim lessons due to sickness hitting fast and furious. However, SwimLabs was more than understanding and rescheduled my lessons with no additional fee because we were always prompt in arriving. Words can not express how happy I was with our time at SwimLabs. Being a parent to many young children, my husband and I could not safely take them all the to pool at once. We simply can not keep everyone safe so we would not go. After a few months with SwimLabs, I am so pleased to say we took all of our kids to the pool and enjoyed every minute of it. Swimlabs Encinitas is awesome. I've been taking my kids there since my daughter was 6 months old (now almost 3). Pools are really warm so there's no tears getting in. The instructors are great and the owners really care about their customers. The set up is very nice for multiple kid families since parents and siblings stay in the waiting room where you can watch your child on a big screen TV and sister/brother can play with the train set or other toys (and you don't have to chase them around the pool edge, which has been my experience at other places). My son had a bad experience in the water last summer and has been afraid ever since but Ms. Marie and Mamoo have been so gentle and enthusiastic with him he was swimming in two lessons! We knew we wanted our children to learn to swim, but we weren't ready to commit to weekly swim lessons for our 1.5 year old. So when we happened to win a free private lesson from the street fair, and had an amazing experience with the brilliant Ms. Brit, we found ourselves signing up unexpectedly and happily. Our child is now 4 years old and swimming across the pool. We now have a two year old as well who we signed up when she was just 6 months old. Our children have been going to these swim lessons for most of their lives. In the last three years, we have seen quite a bit of turnover in teachers and the front desk. About two years ago, I think we had four different teachers in the time span of just a couple months. From conversations with the teachers, several told me that they needed to leave for family reasons and several were to return to school for higher education degrees. Even with this turnover, everyone that worked with our children has been very well trained, patient, helpful, and professional. Our children have been swimming with Ms. Christina now for almost two years. She is able to keep young children on task, teach them survival techniques, have them follow directions, and they all have a great time! It is such a joy to see the improvement they make each week and to see how proud they are of their accomplishments. Swim lessons seem expensive to me, but this is worth the price. These are the only lessons we do for our kids. I feel it is worth the price since I know my children are having a good experience learning a life skill that could save their lives. The front desk has been super accommodating and flexible when it comes to rescheduling. We've had to reschedule many times due to one kid or another being ill and we have only experienced kindness and flexibility from the staff. read more

My husband, now in his 50's, has swam competitively since he was a young child. After only a few lessons at Swim Labs, his stroke technique has improved dramatically. He credits the owner, Mason, with his improved performance and said it's almost unbelievable, how quickly he was able to analyze his own stroke and make needed adjustments through the video camera feedback, as well as sound instruction by Mason. This place is pretty pricey, 30 minutes for 67 dollars but it is completely worth it. The underwater cameras record everything so you will know how your child's stroke looks. The coaches know a lot about swimming and they helped me improve about 5 seconds on every event. So first I scheduled a FREE trail for my 16 month old to see if she would like it and I'm checking out and the lady tells me that it's $15 and that they don't offer free trails. I explained to her that thats not what i was told but she says "we have never offered free trial". Second I get to the class and I'm handed a must have gear list for tots and parents. Never in my 30 minute discussion on the phone when I scheduled the "free trial" was I told about a gear list. How convenient they happen to sell most of the items on the list. read more

We LOVE this place!! My 3-year-old has been taking lessons here for about a year, and we absolutely love coming here! The indoor pools are warm and calm and the teachers are wonderful. The owners are SO nice and SO accommodating. Plus, the fabulous waiting room is filled with toys for my toddler, delicious coffee, and all the new magazines (including my favorite US Weekly!) My 3 1/2 year old son started group lessons twice a week almost four months ago. On our way there, he said, " I will not go in the pool!" Then we got there, and met our instructor Coach Chris, and he had him in the pool within minutes! Going to Swim Labs for his lessons is now his favorite part of every week. When I saw him swim for the first time I cried. It was so cool. Coach Chris is so patient and encouraging. My son totally loves him. We have also had Coach John a few times, and he is awesome too. We get there a few minutes early to play with the fun toys they have in the waiting room, which he loves. After his lesson they have a warm shower available, with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel all included, and then private changing rooms. All of the employees are so friendly. They always greet us at the front desk when we arrive, and say goodbye when we leave. They really make an effort to connect with everyone. I have also had the chance to meet one of the owners as well, and she is a really lovely person who loves kids and takes great pride in her business. We are just so thrilled that we found this place. We would highly recommend it, and often do, to anyone looking for top of the line, high quality swim lessons for their little ones. read more

My children's confidence in the water improved immensely after just a few short months of lessons.
