When I started the wedding planning process, the only thing I knew for sure was that I was going to need a day-of coordinator. I met with a few different coordinators, but Courtney really stood out to me. She was super organized and friendly, which made for the perfect combination. She really helped keep me sane throughout the weeks leading up to the wedding. Not only did she keep me on schedule with all the things I had to do - and things I didn't even know I was supposed to do - but she was also there to reassure me and provide feedback when I needed it. I was definitely one of those brides who had no idea what she was doing and had an endless amount of questions. Courtney was super patient and always lightning quick with responses. She really went above and beyond, answering my nonstop, random questions (me: do the bride and groom get to attend the cocktail hour too or do we hide out until we're introduced at the reception?), asking questions I didn't even know to consider (her: do you want a cake topper? me: what's a cake topper?), and even listening to my random concerns (me: I don't know how I feel about these hair extensions). Seriously, she was doing double duty as coordinator and therapist. And nothing rattled her, like when we found out at the eleventh hour that the violinist for the ceremony wasn't going to be able to make it. She worked it all out with the DJ so that I wouldn't have to walk down the aisle to silence and murmurs! On the day of the wedding I felt panicked until Courtney showed up. Once her and Jessica arrived, I knew everything would go smoothly. And it did. Together they were a power team making sure all the details were in place. The mother of the groom's dress has static cling? They had spray. The tag on my necklace won't come off? They had tools. Where are the shoes I want to change into to dance? They're already discreetly hidden them in a bag under my chair. At one point during the reception, I went to warn my father that our dance was coming up - he already knew, Courtney had given him the heads up. Silly me; I should've known! Nothing got past her or Jessica. They kept the entire evening running perfectly and I really can't sing their praises enough. I kept expecting something to go wrong that day (everyone always says that something will definitely go wrong and you need to just roll with the punches la la la), but nothing went wrong (!) and I fully believe that it's because of Courtney and Jessica! read more

I give them two stars for the initial meeting which is as far as it went. The assistant did not even introduce herself when we arrived at their warehouse location and she brought us up in the warehouse elevator (read those big ones for moving cartons, not a passenger elevator.) And we we left she just pointed to the stairs and said goodbye without offering to bring us back down in the elevator which we could not have done ourselves. The interview was pretty much along the same vein. Not personal, warm or friendly. The one comment from her (still did not introduce herself) that we evaluate you the same as you evaluate us was the defining moment. My only observation is that if they treat the potential bride this way how would the guests be treated? I thought the owner might apologize for the rude behavior when I called the next day to express my concerns. However, did not seem concerned at all about the way we were treated. Her response was sometimes things just don't work out. Having planned events for years for nonprofits, I have never encountered a vendor with an attitude like this. Maybe once hired, the attitude changes as evidenced by the positive comments below. Let's hope so but we will never take that chance. read more

We hired Charlene because she responded to my ad on weddingbee and she had just started her business. She was also Mrs. Emerald on weddingbee! We hired her because her prices were very reasonable and she allowed us to stay within budget, but largely because she was really personable and just generally on top of everything. We did her full month coordination package, and it was simply amazing! She had lots of great suggestions, thought of so many details that had never even crossed my mind, and was a constant reassurance in the stressful weeks leading up to the wedding. She knows a lot of vendors in the Chicago area and was also able to make some great recommendations! She did so much to help me finalize the details and talk with vendors prior to the wedding and allowed me to just focus on the fun parts. In addition, she helped to clarify a miscommunication I had with the florist, which saved me a lot of headaches. Charlene did a fantastic job planning our wedding! Being new to the area, we were lucky enough to be introduced to her through a family friend--her help saved us tons of (1) money; (2) time; and (3) headaches. For example, she found us our fabulous photographer and our even more fabulous florist--neither of them are very famous, nor do they advertise much (meaning that they were pretty cheap!), but they were really, really good (they're up and coming though--the florist was recently featured in Brides Chicago). Charlene was also great about doing things on our schedule and was very responsive and organized. Most of all, I think Charlene excelled in day-of coordination--we never had to worry about a thing. The floral arrangements that we used for our ceremony involved numerous arrangements of 6 small vases (3 of flowers, 3 of candles) that we reused for as our reception centerpieces--due to our tight scheduling, these all had to be moved within the span of about an hour and half. Charlene and her crew turned these for us without any mishaps and everything ended up looking great! It was also such a boon to have Charlene making sure that the vendors were all in place and properly taken care of on the day--everything went so smoothly. read more

Let me preface this review by stating that I never expected to book a wedding coordinator since I wanted to be as careful as possible with our wedding budget and thought that a coordinator was an indulgence we couldn't afford. However, because we were planning the wedding from a distance (we met in Chicago but now live in California), we thought it would be prudent to at least look into wedding planners to help us navigate the Chicago wedding scene. After speaking with Charlene about the services Sweetchic could offer, especially to an out-of-town couple planning a destination wedding, we decided that having a coordinator assist us with wedding planning would likely save us headaches caused by the logistical nightmares that planning a wedding from afar can create. Honestly, of all the things you can spend money on in planning your wedding, hiring a wedding coordinator is probably the most worthwhile. And Charlene was most definitely worth it! Charlene saved us so much stress, especially the day of the wedding. I've been to so many weddings where the bride/groom or parents are frantic through out the wedding because of last minute details that they are trying to address. Because of Charlene and her carefully planned schedule, I was able to truly enjoy our wedding and the entire experience. I did not have to worry about whether the vendors were able to set up at the venue, whether the shuttles we hired arrived on time, whether tips were delivered to the vendors, or whether we'd have time to scramble around to organize escort cards. The day is already so hectic and emotional, that not having to worry about such logistical details really was a blessing. She was able to help us visualize the wedding we wanted, and knew the right vendors to suggest for lighting, music, florists, etc. She was flexible with her schedule and met with us when we were in town so we could accomplish venue walk-throughs, tastings, etc. Lastly, Charlene is just a really kind and fun person to work with during a stressful time. You spend a lot of time emailing and speaking with your wedding coordinator, especially as you get closer to the wedding date, so finding someone with a personality and style that matches your own is really important. We are so glad we got Charlene as our wedding planner. We met with her soon after we got engaged, but did not reach back out until the month before, and we hired her as the day of (really month of) coordinator. From the minute we signed, she took over the entire process (in a good way), oversaw everything, communicated with our vendors, did the walk through with the venue, helped us rehearse, and answered every single one of our questions. Charlene was a lifesaver (and a sanity saver)! We hired Charlene to be our "day of coordinator" but she played a much bigger role than that, helping us pull together all the details of our big day. When we came to Charlene, we had already selected our venue and our caterers, but Charlene helped us find a florist, makeup artist, limo service, linen company and many other vendors - essentially helping us complete our vision and providing the "glue" to pull it all together. There are so many little things that can slip by and a wedding planner can help you pick up on those details. I am a very hands-on person with a very clear picture of what I wanted, and Charlene helped make great suggestions when I was unsure of how to execute something. She was a trusted sounding board to bounce ideas off of and she helped me focus on all the millions of details that go into planning a wedding. On the big day she pulled together the family and friends we drafted to help, and set out to execute our vision. She handled our 24 vendors (yes 24!) and last-minute issues (which always seem to pop up) with composure and professionalism and allowed us to enjoy our day without distraction. While we were on our honeymoon, she even helped take care of some post-wedding details, which she didn't have to do, but that we really appreciated. Hiring Charlene, was the best decision I could have made. From the first day I met her, I immediately knew she would be amazing. She's extremely detailed oriented and well prepared. Kelsey was a dream start to finish. I could not have planned my wedding without her. She thinks of EVERYTHING and didn't pass judgement about us deciding to forgo certain traditions. Our wedding was really our wedding because of Kelsey--she understood our specific needs and priorities, and acted as my therapist throughout the whole process (not technically in her job description). I am not the sort of person who has dreamt of my wedding my whole life, so having Kelsey there to hold my hand throughout literally every detail of this process was essential for me. She helps with every aspect of the planning, and is there with an assistant on your wedding day to be a liaison between the couple and the vendors. She writes many drafted itineraries so that everything runs smoothly, and has the knowledge and experience to be realistic about the timeline. She's also just a really kind and very professional person, and she clearly loves weddings and takes a real interest in her clients. My husband and I cannot recommend Charlene enough!! We both live in NYC, but were married in Chicago (where I'm from) a little over a month ago. Our work schedules are both very hectic, so planning a wedding from halfway across the country would just not have been doable had it not been for Charlene. We were married in October at City Winery, which provided a full suite of services and proved to be very helpful. We initially hired Sweetchic for a Full planning contract, but quickly scaled it back to a Partial planning contract which was in the ~$5k range. We thought Charlene was very organized and polished, but we wished that she would have taken more initiative in moving things along. She was very sweet in helping mend my torn dress (see further detail below). However, we were not pleased with many of the vendor recommendations and chose many from our own independent searches. We were very disappointed in the assistant that was assigned to us that day, and would have experienced nothing different if she wasn't there at all. She didn't offer much help, never offered to help me (bride) with my dress and watched as I struggled with it. We asked her to be in charge of photo props, and when it came time to use them, she had left them in the limo, so they turned out to be a complete waste. Since I was trying to be more DIY, we actually didn't hire Charlene until about less than two months from our wedding after several people highly recommended getting a wedding planner at least for the day-of. I had originally looked to hire a planner one of my girlfriends had hired for her wedding day but she was not available and the original planner recommended Charlene. We were quite lucky that she happened to have that date available since we knew we were cutting it very close to our wedding date. Since my wedding was going to have many ethnic traditions incorporated throughout the day, I needed someone that I felt would be sensitive to these traditions. Even though Charlene and I are not of the same ethnic background, after viewing her website and speaking with her directly, I knew she'd be able to handle my rowdy and oftentimes disorganized family. She was very patient with me too since I was a bit of a slacker bride. From beginning to end, she had everything well put together. I used Charlene at sweet chic events as my wedding planner for my wedding this past November. This was after I fired my first wedding planner. My wedding was very complicated, involving a lot of out of town guests, 275 people, and it was a 2 day affair. Charlene was awesome! My wedding was at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, and Charlene met me there multiple times to plan. She was always prompt, friendly, and incredibly organized. She has a great eye- and I loved her suggestions. She really knows what she is doing. The vendors she suggested were all reasonably priced and fantastic, even if I mostly used my own. She even met me at my florist in napaervlle, and because I live in the suburbs, she also met us halfway between my house and the city to plan. I cannot say enough good thing about her and her company! I almost wish I could have another wedding, just so I could use her again. Don't waste your time interviewing other wedding planner. As a couple comprised of one very busy full-time MBA student and one even busier part-time MBA student, we knew it was in our best interest to use part of our budget to hire a wedding planner. We did our research and reached out to a handful of Chicago wedding planners and had our first meeting with Charlene at Sweetchic. We left the meeting, looked at each other and knew we wouldn't even need to meet with anyone else; Charlene was just what we were looking for. At our initial meeting she was extremely organized, professional, warm and calm; exactly what you want in a wedding planner. Throughout the process she did a great job of providing input when asked but also letting us steer the ship when we wanted to. For example, the venue and location were extremely important to us, and she narrowed down the available options within our budget easily, giving us only downtown Chicago, non-hotel venues with some special charm that would allow guests to enjoy the city and asked all of the right questions at the venue visits. That's how we ended up at River Roast. She also took the lead on parts that weren't our expertise, such as flowers (listening to her and Zenia at Flor Del Monte, whom I highly recommend, talk about flowers was sometimes like listening to a different language!). Charlene answered my endless questions about etiquette, details, wedding party, you name it! When the Grateful Dead announced their shows in Chicago on our wedding weekend a year after we had booked everything and hotels sold out in minutes, Charlene kept us calm and worked to find some creative solutions for lodging for our guests. And finally, on the big day, Charlene and Courtney made it easy for everyone involved, from the pocket-schedules for the whole wedding party to all of the details being executed properly. After the wedding my husband and I decided that the mark of a great planner is of course that the day goes as flawlessly as it can, but also that as the bride and groom you don't have to worry about logistics, vendors, or anything other than celebrating your love that day. We were truly able to enjoy every minute of our wedding day free of stress and I know that's because of Charlene and her team. My husband and I also talked a lot about how inefficient and overpriced the wedding industry is as a whole; Sweetchic is neither of those things. I met Charlene of Sweetchic Events almost 6 months after I started planning our wedding. My fiance (now husband) was very hesitant about the actual need for a day of coordinator. With costs piling up, you naturally think what's an area that we can cut back on and could we manage to do it ourselves. Needless to say months after meeting, our work schedules became quite hectic and I dialed who else but Charlene to assist with fixing what I considered to be a floral issue. She helped to work with my florist to bring to life my vision. We just got married and used Sweet Chic Events to plan our wedding. Charlene Liang is the reason we were able to enjoy our wedding day. I came across Charlene of Sweetchic Events through my sister who is also in the wedding industry, and I am so glad I did!!! I have never been good at organizing and staying on top of things, and in addition, my husband is out of country most of the time for work and so am I. So my husband gave me the go to hire Charlene as our wedding planner. Going with the full package, she helped SO much on our wedding...she pretty did the entire planning for us!!
