These are hands-down the best cupcakes in the bay area! The salted caramel chocolate cake is my favorite but I've tried almost every flavor and never been disappointed. I went with the coconut pie which was a banana and coconut layered pie in a small canned jar for $5. Looking at the small canned jar with my son standing next to me, it really didn't look like much. But once we dug in, it was a totally different story. I twisted open the jar seal and the coconut aroma hit me like a ton of bricks; my mouth watered. I took a spoonful of the mini pie careful to get all layers of it on my spoon along with the breading. It was one of those tastings you wanted to savor, so I closed my eyes and let the pie melt off my tongue. The moment of indulgence didn't last long before I felt a sharp tug at my leg reminding me there were greater forces at work ready to tear into some pie too, so I handed over my spoon and pie. The green tea cupcake had very mild tea flavors. If you're going for a strong taste, this cupcake won't meet your expectations...but I like the subtlety of the matcha. The raspberry chocolate one doesn't have a lot of chocolate notes, so chocoholics might be a bit disappointed but tastes good to me! The best ones are still the fruit-flavored ones -- strawberry shortcake one and the lemon zest one. Both were filled inside with their respective flavors. The Sweet Treat Shop is a very cute and appealing pink truck that I have often seen parked outside of the Alameda South Shore Shopping Center on several occasions. They are indeed a cupcake truck and pride themselves in baking the cupcakes on the truck and making sure the customer is getting a fresh cupcake every time. I was on my way to OTG Alameda and saw the truck and decided I would give them a try instead of going to Cupkates since a friend of mine bragged about how delicious these cupcakes were. Walking up to the window they had a big variety of cupcakes on display, they had about 14 flavors available this particular day which is a huge amount coming off of a truck. I decided to go with the Red Velvet of course and then the Strawberry Shortcake as well, these cupcakes will run you $4 each which in my opinion is a little too pricey and weren't worth it in my case. The Strawberry Shortcake cupcake was a white cake with fresh strawberry compote inside topped with a Chantilly Creme frosting and a dollop of strawberry compote, this was my favorite of the two. The cake was super moist and light, the strawberry compote went great with the cupcake and the Chantilly creme frosting was also very light and allowed to taste all the different flavors. When the frost is too heavy and overpowering I feel like you aren't able to taste the cupcake itself. This cupcake alone got 4 stars but I was saving the best for last or so I thought. The Red Velvet was a huge disappointment, the frosting didn't look like the typical thick cream cheese frosting I was used to and it certainly didn't taste like it either. The frosting had a hint of a cream cheese taste but was bitter on the back end and the cupcake was very heavy and had too much of a boxed cake flavor, more chocolate tasting than a typical Red Velvet. I was very disappointed, usually if the frosting isn't right on a Red Velvet cupcake I can get past it and still indulge but with the frosting and the cupcake not being good I could hardly stomach eating half of it. It's disappointing and a waste of $4. I will say that the customer service was great and they did a good job of selling you those cupcakes and giving me pointers about leaving the Strawberry Shortcake one out for too long. They were very nice, welcoming and personable but I'm not sure that will bring me back here. If I was in the area I would go back for the Strawberry Shortcake cupcake but that's about it, I don't think I would try any of their other flavors. I did see on their website that they do cookies, mini pies in a jar and different pastries but none of those were available. If they had all those items I would be more likely to return. read more

The man on the truck was such a flirt! Don't mean to bust his bubble but hey it is what it is! The names of the cupcakes were so interesting and the thought of having another one just makes me go crazy right now! The flavors that sounded delicious to me were: Madagascar vanilla (the best), snicker doodle, Marilyn raspberry cupcake, red velvet, Carmel, strawberry shortcake. Just Some things that they should change: The boxes that the put the cupcakes in. I just had the pleasure of indulging in a wonderfully moist, airy, bite of chocolate goodness, aka the Chocolate Explosion this afternoon.
