    Medium ackee & saltfish

I was so excited to try out this spot. As someone who grew up eating Jamaican food, I know what I'm ordering and how I want it made. Upon entry, I noticed a gentleman behind the counter. I greeted him, and asked if he had any ackee and Saltfish ready. He said he did, so I asked him to show me what the medium sized bowl looks like. I was satisfied thinking I'd get a full plate. Wrong. I then asked him the price of dumplings. Keep in mind, his demeanor was very cold; he seemed agitated by the questions I was asking. I asked if he could add two extra dumplings to my order. He said the order already comes with dumplings. Sir, I still want two extra dumplings so please Anyway, I expressed this is my first time visiting, and that this establishment was recommended by my coworkers (I'm side eyeing them going forward) the gentleman didn't seem to care about anything I was saying. As I waited for my food, I noticed the positive affirmation quotes near the register. I thought that was dope! Anyway fast forward, I get home, and realize the dumplings are all raw and the ackee & saltfish was COLD. I re-heated and it was beyond SALTY, way too much spice, and then I notice the strand of hair after two bites. I'm beyond disgusted!! I want to go back and ask for a refund, but I'll take the $17 loss. As LIVID as I am right now, I'd rather not go back and make a scene. You don't play with food. You don't know how anyone will react to the unsanitary conditions you've presented. To the gentleman who served me this trash: I know we all have bad days; life is a lot right now, but it costs NOTHING to be kind. Take a deeper look into what the actual issues are at hand and change the narrative. I'm not sure if you're the owner, but what you served was beyond inedible! Do better!

I found this spot on Yelp and since it had so many positive reviews, I just had to try it out! I came here just for their oxtail since I was interested in making it as well and I absolutely loved the food. The only downside is that it was expensive for the small portion but the reviews did warn about that. The oxtail was very tender and fell off the bone. The rice and veggies were perfectly cooked and seasoned as well so it complemented the oxtail well. This is a nice hole in the wall spot so give it a shot!

I enjoy driving long distances to try new food places specially family owned and I'm so glad I came across this hidden gem. I've been trying to find a good Jamaican food spot and I believe I finally found it. The quality of food was really good, fresh and delicious. The Mango Carrot juice I tried is so refreshing and reminds me of my childhood. The woman upfront was super helpful and explained everything that was available. The place is small but those are the best places, it's nice to get your food and take it to go. I will be coming back, Thanks!

So as a Jamaican-American (aka I was not born there but I grew up on cooked food solely) I find this place to be fantastic and on point. Now I didn't want to share this gem of an establishment in fear that it would get too popular but I just had my lunch and if I could go back and give the cook a hug... I would. The food is excellent in so many ways; the flavor and that yummy spicy heat lingers oh so good! I have had most of their menu like the Curry Shrimp; Curry Chicken; Brown Stew Chicken, Jerk Chicken, Oxtails, Pepper Shrimp; all the soups; Fried Chicken all with rice and peas. I have never been dissatisfied. Good amount of food for the price. Now caution if you are in a hurry as this establishment is normally a one woman or man show. With Sweet Spice being so popular to the westindian locals it may be a quick visit if it's empty BUT if it's lunch time you can wait up to 20 minutes to be served. I say its worth it damit! I even buy in bulk 2 to 4 meals at a time. (I pitty the person that stands behind me... I know I cause some of the wait). The food is so tasty and well seasoned that I highly recommend!

Sweet Spice is a tiny spot tucked away on a quiet and unassuming side-street of New Rochelle. What it lacks in aesthetic and menu variety, it makes up for in flavor. I liked it! I wouldn't bring a date here, and I wouldn't have a meeting here, but if we're talking about Caribbean take-out or a quick bite with some friends--that's Sweet Spice's sweet-spot. One look at the menu gives the authenticity vibe. They've got the oxtail, curry goat, callaloo, ackee, etc.--all the stuff you expect to see at a real Caribbean place. The inside is little, with a counter and 4 or 5 small tables in a room to the left. Parking on the street. They have a small selection of sodas and other drinks; no alcohol. I don't think i'd dine-in here, but it's great for take-out. They deliver for orders over $15 (no delivery charge) and they accept credit cards. The menu is small, but they had what I wanted and I found it to be really tasty. I ordered the medium-sized Brown Stew Chicken. The sauce and the meat were really tasty, seasoned very well, cooked properly and full of flavor. They came over white rice with cabbage, onion, corn, and green beans on the side. It was a pretty standard lunch, but the guy at the counter packed it in the container and gave me a good amount of food. Service was friendly and my food was ready when I arrived (I ordered ahead for pickup). At around $7 for a small, $9 for a medium, and $12 for a large, I thought it was a bit pricey but they gave a good amount of food. All things considered, it's a dive of a place in an easily-missed location, but they're definitely cooking up some tasty stuff back in the kitchen. A+ for Caribbean take-out.

The fish tea, the SSS, lobster salad & oxtails, do I need to say more? One of my favorite restaurants when visiting Jamaica!

When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly empty (only about four other tables), which made for a calm, relaxed dining atmosphere. We received complimentary fried dumpling which was nice and order calamari and the crab and lobster rolls, both of which were really good and a great way to kick things off. For entrées I ordered the oxtails with rice and peas, One friend had oxtails with jasmine rice, another ordered fried shrimp with jasmine rice and oxtail gravy, The last entrée was grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and vegetables Everything was very flavorful, well-seasoned, and satisfying. The oxtails were tender, and the salmon was cooked nicely. For drinks, we tried: * The Tropical Long Island * Their version of a Piña Colada * The Strawberry Sidecar All the drinks were enjoyable and paired well with the food. To end the night, my friends shared a slice of the Coconut Time Cake. I didn't try it personally, but the consensus from the table was that it was really good. Shoutout to our waiter, who was kind, attentive, and informative throughout the night, which always makes the experience better. Overall, Krave delivered good food, good drinks, and good service. I'd definitely return!

The bartender definitely did not skimp on the liquor, and the drink was perfectly made. For brunch, I ordered the omelet with jerk shrimp and it was absolutely delicious flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the catfish and she loved it as well. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. She also ordered dessert and really enjoyed it. Toward the end of our meal, Alvin, the owner, came over to our table and introduced himself, which was such a nice personal touch and made the experience even more special. Before leaving, I even ordered food to take home because the meal was that good. Overall, this restaurant was an excellent choice. Great food, great drinks, great service, and a great atmosphere. My friend and I enjoyed it so much that we are already planning to come back again with our husbands. I would definitely recommend Alvin & Friends for brunch.
