Best was a stretch fo sure ... let's get ito it . Tiny spot . Looks way bigger in the picture but no biggie . We came in sat down and waited to be served . There isn't much staff so there was a long wait . The older lady had a nasty attitude like she didn't want us there . We had shrimp pasta ( spicy and watery ), salmon ( my sister said it was decent but not good ) , jerk steak( tough meat ), chicken wings ( best on the table perfection) . Plantain spring rolls ( waste of money we all hated them and we like plantain) , Ackee and salt fish ( Ackee with a side of salt fish but good flavor) oxtail pasta ( they gave me literally 2 oxtails with sauce for 38 dollars ! Oxtail was good but 2 is crazy ) Sorrel wasn't that great but I'm also used to a richer flavor . Everything looked pretty but I'm more of a give me good taste girl ! In all for the price point , travel time and wait this spot was a waste of time and I wouldn't return . People in the area seem too like it but being exposed to better has me spoiled I guess :/ . Absolutely Not. Will never go back!!!!! Ordered smallest size of curry goat with rice and peas, and fried chicken. Total spent was $19.49 for this order. Rice and peas had no taste of coconut milk. Curry Goat was pure mush. The biggest pieces were the bones, was pure salt. If you have high blood pressure DO NOT EAT THIS!!!! Container was $14.99 Ordered 1 piece of Fried chicken but was given 2 due to the size and it was salty as well. Price was $2.99 This was one of the worst jamaican plates I've tasted. I discovered this place in an article about female-owned restaurants, so my wife and I decided to try it. The food was very good. We had the Pepper Shrimp (head on), which I had only encountered in New Orleans - quite good. My main dish was an escovitched Snapper which was perfectly prepared, crispy skin and moist inside, with a side of cabbage. All very good. It should be noted this place is SMALL, really Caribbean sized, maybe room for 12-16 diners, and since it's not a diner service is more human speed than Automat speed. I'll be going back. read more

I love to support small businesses especially black owned. I was hoping to give this place a great review however I have to be honest. My first impression started when I was placing my order and was told the price on the menu was not correct. The entrée was actually $10 more than what the menu stated. Why hand out a menu if the prices have changed that much. When I received my entrée and I did not get the side dish as stated on the menu and when I asked for it; it was an extra charge on my bill. The food ok...oxtails were a little salty. The owner who took our order was nice however the chef who part owner was not welcoming not only to us but others coming in for takeout. Small but Cozy This weekend we celebrated my birthday and patronize an establishment called "Jungle Restaurant" in the Fleetwood area of Mount Vernon NY. It is very small eat in restaurant, maybe at full capacity there is seating for 16 adults tops. They also accommodate take out orders in the same space. We ENJOYED many dishes from plantain egg rolls and sweet chili wings as our appetizers to curry goat, salmon, Jerk chicken etc. Plus, wonderful commercial and house beverages. The presentation was enticing. Our server, Scarlet, was attentive to our orders and pleasantly attended to our needs and wants. She made us feel truly welcomed from when we entered and throughout our dining experience. I would recommend this establishment for the tasty meals that were stated in this review, but one of their high end meals, the Escovitch Snapper, was not as pleasing. This was a cook to order meal (meal is cooked fresh when you order rather than sitting under a heated lamp). I found the fish to be petrified (over cooked and tough). I spoke to the chef but the response was that it's a "Yellow Tail Snapper". I tried and others in my party tried to eat it but it wasn't palatable. Since I spoke to the chef directly and nothing was adjusted we had to assume that this is not the speciality for this establishment. Again, all else was very nice; not a log wait, good music, accommodating server, refreshing drinks were all beautiful, it was just the one fish meal that was personally displeasing. read more

Jungle Restaurant was my choice for the night. I decided to get the pic two dinner, which came with curry goat, oxtails with rice and peas and cabbage on the side. I also decided to get their wrong punch. The presentation of the meal was fantastic. The food was well seasoned,fresh, and full of flavor. Even the rum punch was very refreshing and it definitely had some kick to it. They were playing nice music in the background which made the night even more relaxing and enjoyable. The staff was very helpful with any questions or suggestions about what to get off of the menu. I have no complaints about my experience here, the only thing I can say is that you have to remember it's cash only which is not a big deal because the chase bank is literally 200 feet away but other than that my experience here was top-notch and I would not hesitate to come back. read more

I've been dying to try this place. Ackee and Saltfish ... was delish. Not over seasoned ... Saltfish coupled well with the vegetables, pièce de résistance Two patties. Filling was ground a lil too fine for me but it was tasty and perfectly spiced ... for the common folk. I added a bit of zing but that is smart ... make it tasty for erybody! After a long day at work I had no desire to prepare a meal. I've ordered from this place before and my meal was okay. I ordered via GrubHub: jerk salmon with pasta. Picked my ordered up and went home. Both salmon and pasta were overdone AND the salmon wasn't jerk like I specified, it was very sweet (akin to sweet chili salmon). It was a profound waste of $26. So, I decided to pop in this restaurant today and quite honestly.......I was disappointed by both the taste of the food and proportions. I decided to have breakfast: a taste (literally) of ackee and saltfish and callaloo. Well I will say that I asked for a little bit of both and a fried dumpling in a small container. Which he did do but stated that it comes with 3 fried dumplings and 2 plaintains. I said okay. The food was delicious! I enjoyed the spicy flavor provided in the dishes. There wasn't much saltfish in the meal. Because I asked for a little spoonful. That cost me $14.99. Next, I ordered an Oxtail meal. It came with very little meat alongside white rice with goon goon peas and a salad. No love in the rice at all. No coconut milk no where. All we could taste was white rice and salt. The oxtails were alright. Definitely nothing to write home about. The curry goat was yummy. The meat was cooked down to perfection. But the serving size for a large was very disappointing. The pieces of meat were very small and few enough to count. This dish too was served with the same rice and salad covering half of the tin. I'm happy to support a black owned business in this area but I won't be back. Three meals $69......you've got to be kidding me. Definitely not worth the money. After finishing it, and waiting for the sever to come back around, I ordered a second drink & finished it before the food came out. 75 minutes into the night, our food comes out. Cold because they "were waiting for cabbage." Get this-- THE CABBAGE WASNT EVEN ON THE PLATE! The cabbage came out 20 minutes later like it was some type of desert, no thank you. At this point, get me the check, I'M LEAVING. The check comes and they say, "it's cash only." After sitting down for 90 minutes, now I'm hit with this?!? What horrible service. Nowhere from the entrance can you see a sign that says, cash only. They know this & they purposely don't post it. Do you think they have an ATM inside?-- nope. They have a board with every single one of their specials, but nothing saying cash only. News flash; I didn't cater an $800 event with cash, but now there's no exceptions. After getting nothing but an attitude, one of my friends went to the ATM, paid the meal, all while the server is screaming, "we don't need your business!" I was just driving through the town and wanted some Caribbean food and found a spot. Unfortunately it was the day that they were catering a private celebration. But they still excepting orders. The young man who helped me was really nice and open about options and price changes. The order did take quite a while just for takeout, and many of the takeout patrons were getting really frustrated. Das I assume that typically they're pretty on top of their takeout, and I totally understand how they are overwhelmed with a large group and then take it out on top so I wasn't upset especially when the food finally came out, it literally probably just finished getting prepared and served right away and so delicious!! Even though it added on considerable amount of time to my road trip it definitely was worth a try. I got the jungle pasta with chicken and I remember the young man saying that they were out of a few chicken dishes, and probably explains why there was only three pieces of chicken in the entire dish. Also I'm not sure why they would pack salad in the same container at steaming hot pasta, I've yet to meet anybody who likes hot lettuce lol read more
