The Long Version: I was wandering around St. Laurent Shopping Centre with my mom when we came across Rio Acai. Initially I thought it was just another place that sold Acai bowls, but upon closer inspection we discovered that they also sold Brazilian snacks like Coxinha, Pão de queijo and Brazilian tapioca crepes. They also had Brigadeiros! We were still stuffed from lunch (from Minda Cafe nearby) but wanted to try something, so we shared a Coxinha ($5.90). It was delicious! It's essentially a deep-fried croquette with mashed potatoes, shredded chicken and cheese inside. It's shaped like a teardrop but we weren't sad eating it at all, lol. In fact we were happy to eat something so delicious. It was flavourful with a crunchy exterior and a creamy interior. Service was pleasant. They are not in the food court, but rather on the main floor near the Shoppers Drug Mart and Toys R Us. They are close to Cinnabon. I'll definitely return to try their other items. I'm especially looking forward to trying their Brazilian cheese bread (Pão de queijo). Lots of free parking at the shopping mall parking lot. (162)

This place has the most fascinating mixture of items on the menu to order from. It offers bubble tea. You can also get dim sum, which includes dumplings, har gow, siu mai, steamed custard buns, and spring rolls. In other words, it caters to folks like me who crave all these items all the time. The menu also offers sushi rice bowls. I don't know if it's exclusively Pomelo Hat offerings or if it's under Kiramaki's menu. Kiramaki Sushi shares the same space with Pomelo Hat. This store truly has everything I want and love. It's awesome. Here's the best part. Pomelo Hat has sparkling butterfly pea spritzer. OMG! I absolutely love drinks with bubbles. I didn't have to look any further. I got the tropical sunset butterfly pea sparkling spritzer with coconut jelly. Starbucks, eat your heart out with that drink name! My drink came in one size: large. I got it with less ice and no sugar (it's called minimal sweet here). My friend was kind to take me here, so the least that I could do was get the tab on her bubble tea. She chose a regular strawberry green tea QQ. She could have ordered every topping available on the menu, but she had composure and didn't break my bank. It's funny. I was so into taking photos of my drink with the various plant backdrops at this place that I completely forgot about my bag that I had left here. Oops! Luckily, we were only a few blocks away and nobody wanted my stuff. Technically, we dropped by twice this day. There is bar seating by the window. It's a fairly small space that it's more of a fetch-and-go place. We continued taking photos of our drinks outside. We then walked, sat, and chatted. My drink was so good. It was bubbly and cheerful. It had a cantaloupe base with a subtle sweetness to it. The coconut jelly provided a nice chewy contrast. My drink was so good and perfect on a hot summer day. My friend enjoyed her drink. With QQ drinks, they come with tapioca and your choice of any jelly. I thought that the flexibility was nice. We tend to take our bubble tea the same way, so she went no sugar and less ice, too. I never got around to coming back to try the dim sum. I had been craving dumplings during my vacation and other establishments that I had frequented satisfied that ongoing want. I'll need to come back here and give its all-day dim sum menu a try. This place is on Fantuan. I hope it still is when I come back for more. I loved my bubble tea. I have the lychee rose lemonade sparkling butterfly pea spritzer left to try before I branch into the non-sparkling teas. (264)

Every spring I start craving Pomelo Hat and dragging my friends and coworkers around to try it. They love it too! In spring 2024 I used the last of my Carleton Residence floor budget to bulk order 15 drinks for my students and they loved it and went back for more. Friendly service, great food, but best to pop in for as there isn't much in the way of seating. My favourite drink there is the Yuzu Ginger Seltzer boba which is absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS. Fresh lemon slices and bits of candied ginger mixed in. Absolutely delightful. I love you Pomelo Hat!!!!!!

If you're a fan of sushi, you'll probably end up being a fan of this as well. I went with some friends and we each picked up our own bowls. They're fairly generous with their servings, but I do warn that they are slightly on the more expensive side. They have vegan and gluten free options, so it's a great alternative for everyone. If you're looking for a healthier option this new years, I highly suggest coming by Paradise Poke! :)

They worked through the line quite quickly but there's not a lot of room to sit for to their seats being right where the line is with the exception of those at the window. For the price of the poke bowl (I did the make your own), it lacked protein and they lacked generosity when it came to toppings. The presentation was nice but I felt very limited in the amount of toppings I could have in my bowl as well as they were stingy. For example, I wanted daikon & she counted 4 pieces for my bowl! Lots of rice so it'll fill you up. Unsure whether I'll come back since it was very delicious but slightly over priced..

My mom and I went to Place d'Orleans specifically to get bubble tea at Freshly Squeezed, but when we got there we saw that the kiosk was all walled off and it looked like the store was no more. We were super disappointed, but decided to look at the mall directory to see if they had moved since the whole mall is undergoing renovations at the time of this review. We saw that Freshly Squeezed is no longer a tenant, but we spotted Real Fruit Bubble Tea! They just opened a location in Bayshore Shopping Centre, so maybe they are taking Ottawa by storm. Anyway, we obviously beelined it to Real Fruit Bubble Tea, lol. We were told that they just ran out of tapioca and it would be 30 minutes for them to prepare another batch. So we walked around the mall and came back in 30 minutes. These guys were really busy! I got a small blueberry smoothie with tapioca ($5.49 + $0.50 for the tapioca) half sweet, and my mom got a small taro sherbet with tapioca ($5.49 + $0.50 for the tapioca). She got the default amount of sugar. I enjoyed my drink but found it still too sweet. I think I will say no sugar next time. I was happy with the amount of tapioca I received. They are better than the Bayshore location, which was so stingy with the tapioca :( The tapioca were chewy and a nice consistency, not too mushy, but not too hard. I will mention that since they use real fruit I had tiny specks of blueberry skin stuck between my teeth during and after drinking my smoothie, lol. My mom really liked her drink and she did not find her drink too sweet. She was also happy with the amount of tapioca. Service was friendly and efficient. There are a few tables actually inside the store where you can sit and enjoy your drink, but there are also tables in the mall in front of the store. They are on the main floor, in between David's Tea and Purdy's Chocolates.
